January 2019 Monthly Empties & Month in Masks

Time to dig in to my beauty garbage:

January 2019 Monthly Empties

Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara ~ $29.00 CAN. An intensely glossy black mascara that volumizes, lengthens, and curls.

This mascara was pretty good - it lengthened, curled and added volume; but, it didn't add as much volume as I prefer for my lashes (which is really an excessive amount of volume). So it is a pretty mascara - you can see it on me in a look here!)

Repurchase: Probably Not

L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Black ~ $12.99 CAN (prices vary from $10 - $18). This liquid eyeliner glides on easily for rich, high shine and waterproof color that lasts up to 12 hours.

This has a felt tip applicator; but, it really reminded me of a brush tip applicator (and that isn't a great thing). You can see this swatched and tried on here. It is a really long tip and it was not easy at all to apply and it goes wonky on the lash line and it was overall quite hard to use. I just used this recently in a look at it was pretty dried up and flaky too so it's not a long lasting formula.
Repurchase: No

Burt's Bees Pink Grapefruit Lip Balm ~ $5.29 CAN. Burt's Bees Lip Balm, Pink Grapefruit, provides lips moisture and nourishment with a fun pink grapefruit flavour.

This is a good lip balm - I like the Burt's Bees formula and this was good. Sadly, this one went through my washing machine so it's ending came early; but, it was fine!
Repurchase: Likely

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ~ sample size shown here (full size is $24.00 CAN). A leave-on lip mask that soothes and moisturizes for smoother, more supple lips overnight.

This lip sleeping mask is amazing! It made my Best of 2018 Makeup products because it was so good! Thank goodness I had this little sample - this saved my lips after the Bite Beauty lip mask burned my lips! This little sample lasted for over 2 weeks, so this was a handy little sample! This is the best!
Repurchase: YES!

Benefit They're Real Mascara ~ deluxe sample shown (full size is $33.00 CAN). A lengthening mascara that curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates lashes for an "out-of-here" look.

This mascara isn't my favorite - I've used it a few times in sample form and it's not my favorite. The brush is hard and pokey and the formula is quite wet and it always transfers on me. I don't love it; but, it is useable enough.
Repurchase: No

January 2019 Monthly Empties

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater ~ $11.00 CAN. A face mist that revives dehydrated skin with a dewy glow anytime, anywhere.

Mario Badescu is new to Sephora Canada very recently, so if you are interested in the brand, that's exciting! I hating the Drying Lotion from this brand so much, so I was a little hesitant to try this spray. It was surprisingly good and I really enjoyed it - it was refreshing!
Repurchase: Maybe!

Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule ~ $13.63 CAN. High contect of snail secretion filtrate and E.G.F. (Epiderma Growth Factor) help skin regeneration and improve skin elasticity while moisturizing skin.

I've actually had this serum for a couple of years and have used it on and off, especially when I feel like I need something to make my skin look healthier. This certainly works for that and was a good, strong serum!
Repurchase: Yes, I would eventually...

Charcoal Eyes by ToGoSpa ~ $15.00 US for 3 sets. Bamboo Charcoal adsorbs impurities and helps to detoxify the under eye area leaving eyes bright and re-energized.

These were getting close to their expiry dates and when I put the last set of eye gels under my eyes they stung my eyes so bad and my eyes would not stop watering - I had to take them off immediately. I do remember them working well before; but, clearly the expiry date might have had something to do with this.
Repurchase: Not likely

Rodial Snake Eye Cream O2 ~ $95.00 US. Instantly tighten and firm the appearance of laughter lines and expression lines around the eyes with this powerful eye cream.

This product is the victim of me having too many products - I used this a couple of years ago when I received it; but, I cycled it to the back of my pile to try newer products. Sadly, by the time I got back to it this month, it had gone bad and did not smell good! Whoops!
Repurchase: Probably not - this is pricey!

Cosrx Blackhead Silk Finger Ball ~ package of 12 for $7.67. Silk-made finger ball resembles the cocoons of silkworms and contains the natural protein ceracin that helps minimize moisture loss while providing natural and gentle exfoliation on skin.

These are supposed to get rid of blackheads and I think maybe they work - I'm still not sure, I used this when my pore were looking really big and it did help but I don't know how much. To use these, you soak them in water for a couple of minutes and gently massage - you can use the ball 2 or 3 times; but, that seems a little weird to me, so I only used it once!
Repurchase: Eh, don't think so

Sephora Collection Wipes ~ sample shown, each are 25 wipes for $10.00 CAN.

This little sample set came with 2 different types of the Sephora Collection wipes. The first was the Charcoal Purifying and Exfoliating and this was interesting - one side was smooth for removing makeup and the second side was textured and did exfoliate. The second wipe was the Coconut Water Soothing and Relaxing. They were both fine and removed makeup - I did use them while travelling and didn't find either were spectacular at removing eye makeup; but, they were fine with face makeup.
Repurchase: I would consider it

January 2019 Monthly Empties
TheFaceShop Acacia Honey Daily Perfumed Hand Cream ~ $6.00 CAN.

This hand cream isn't available in this scent anymore and holy moly, they aren't kidding when they call this a perfumed hand cream! It is so strongly floral scented, I really couldn't wait to be done with this. It was my work hand cream and it lasted forever.
Repurchase: No

Weleda Skin Food Travel Size ~ $4.49 CAN. Dry, rough skin of any age gets indulgent moisture with this intensively nourishing, deeply hydrating cream.

This is a super thick lotion/balm - it is so moisturizing and hydrating and really works on super dry patches. I use this on my upper arms and my toddler's eczema patches and it works super well!
Repurchase: Yes

Rainbow Honey Body Spray ~ $?

The fact that this brand doesn't even exist anymore should give you a hint at how old this product is... It has been my purse mini scent for the longest time and it's finally done. It was a fine scent.
Repurchase: No

Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Shampoo ~ $15.79 CAN full size (travel size shown). Shampoo should clean hair and really good shampoo should make you tingle from head to toe.

Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Conditioner ~ $15.79 CAN full size (travel size shown). You expect a conditioner to moisturize, smooth and detangle.

I have reviewed these before and just think they are okay - I think they are almost too deep cleaning on my hair and because my hair is thin and fine, it just made my hair look greasy the following day. I did like that this tingled a little and the brand is natural and vegan; this isn't my favorite line from them; but, I have tried the Frizz Be Gone line and really liked it!
Repurchase: No

Juara Candlenut Body Creme ~ $35.00. This rich, luxurious body creme provides the skin nourishing benefits of Candlenut Oil, coveted for centuries in Indonesia for its light, velvety feel and high content of skin nourishing essential fatty acids.

This is a luxurious, thick body lotion and it smells amazing - so good! I've actually had this product for years and go in and out of using it (usually save it for the Winter - it even made my Monthly Favorites in October 2017). Works really well; but, it looks rather hard to find now - too bad.
Repurchase: If it was easy to find in a store!

Lush Snow Fairy Body Conditioner ~ $12.95 for 90g. Made with a fruity cherry infusion, hydrating mango and avocado butters and moisturizing fair trade organic cocoa butter, a sweep of this on the skin will banish the dryness that winter sometimes brings.

This is an in-shower moisturizer that you apply after you've gotten all clean and just rinse off - should be enough of a conditioner that you don't need lotion after. In all honesty, when I first got this, I actually thought it was a normal lotion and used it like too - both methods worked good. I love the Snow Fairy scent and I thought this worked!
Repurchase: Yes, if it's released again!

January 2019 Monthly Empties

Weleda Salt Toothpaste ~ travel size for $3.99 CAN. It’s a full oral cleansing that helps prevent the buildup of plaque and cares for your gums.

This was actually the most disgusting toothpaste I've ever tried - it tasted so yucky...
Repurchase: NO

Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush Soft ~ $10.79 CAN. The TOUR is constructed with a clever “jack-knife” handle functionality that hides the toothbrush replacement head inside the handle when not in use, acting as an all-in-one travel case and toothbrush.

This was a handy little toothbrush, it's just too old now!
Repurchase: Maybe!

Mitchum Clinical Soft Solid ~ $8.99 CAN.

Deodorant is nothing special; but, I love the clinical strength formula and this brand is my go to. I like that it is both an antiperspirant and a deodorant. It works well for me.
Repurchase: Yes

My First Colgate Infant & Toddler Toothpaste ~ $3.38 CAN. My First* Colgate* Infant & Toddler Toothpaste is low foaming to allow for easy cleaning.

This was for Elliott and it was fine, we will switch to a fluoride toothpaste now for him, but this has been good.
Repurchase: No, only because now he will move up

Exact Lens Care System ~ $15.99 CAN for 2 systems and 2 cases. 3.3% hydrogen peroxide cleaning and disinfecting solution.

Holy moly, if you have been considering switching to a Hydrogen Peroxide contact solution and you haven't yet, I highly recommend you switch! (This even made my Monthly Favorites in June!) This system just cleans and preps them sooo well - making contacts so comfortable to wear!

Repurchase: Yes

Crest ProHealth Advanced Rinse ~ $7.99.

This is the best mouthwash ever - I hate mouthwashing (is that okay to admit here?!) but this one doesn't taste quite as terrible burning as the rest!
Repurchase: Yes

January 2019 Monthly Empties

I Love Cosmetics Bath Fizzer ~ approx. $5.00 CAN. Ready to transform your bath into the most relaxing and delicious experience fragrant with Raspberry Blackberry!

This is actually 2 bath fizzers instead of just one big one; but, I will be honest that I threw it all in together - I need all the bathbomb in there. This one smelled good.
Repurchase: Maybe...

Lush Sex Bomb Bath Bomb ~ $7.95 CAN. Scintillating jasmine, clary sage and ylang ylang are powerful aphrodisiacs, and soy milk softens up your entire body.

This one is so pretty - and Lush bath bombs are my favorites and this one worked well.
Repurchase: Likely

Lush Candy Mountain Bubble Bar ~ $7.45. Fair trade vanilla grows in view of the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon in Western Uganda before being packed into this lustrous pink bubbler.

Ok, this is such a cute bubble bar and the scent is delightful; but, I looked back on the blog and I purchase this in 2015 - what the hell have I been doing not using this for over 3 years... it still bubbled really well so that's good!

Repurchase: Maybe, it was seasonal!

So, I used up 27 Empties in January, which is a great start to the year - I love using products up!

And, here are the masks I used in January:

January 2019 Month in Masks

Leaders 7 Wonders Mask - Amazonian Acai ~ $6.00 CAN. Acai extract purifies skin and curbs damage from environmental stressors.

I reviewed this mask on a Skincare Sunday and really liked it!  The material is delightful and it may be the thinnest mask I've ever tried. My skin felt really clear and looked bright the next day! You can see a more detailed review here.
Repurchase: Yes

Farmacy Coconut Gel Sheet Mask - Hydrating ~ $8.00 CAN. A coconut water-infused sheet mask with ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid and cucumber extract for a healthy-looking glow.

Another mask I received this month and this mask is fabulous! You can see my review here, and I will make it easy for you, this also made my Monthly Favorites for January! This is a great biocellulose material too and left my skin so hydrated and refreshed!
Repurchase: Yes!

Fashion Angels Face Mask #BestSelfie ~ $6.95 CAN. The rainbow print will make you smile while nourishing your face with Avocado.

This mask is so bright and fun to wear - and I found it at Chapters! It dried out after about 15 minutes, and unfortunately it didn't offer as much hydration as I was looking for. You can see a more detailed review here
Repurchase: No

Cosrx One Step Original Pimple Clear Kit ~ $5.00 CAN. I will be reviewing this mask soon, so stay tuned - it was fun! It's a 3 step mask that comes with a cleanser, clearing pad and then a face mask! I really enjoyed this mask and would love to try it again!
Repurchase: Yes

January 2019 Month in Masks

First Skin Clinic M.R.B. Daily Ampoule Mask ~ $4.00 US. The M.R.B mask or the “moisture, rich, brightening” mask, works to do exactly as its name states!

This mask was quite good - it fit nicely and had a ton of essence - it lasted over 30 minutes on the face. It was really moisturizing.
Repurchase: Maybe

The Face Shop Modeling Gel Patch ~ $?

These eye masks adhered really well and lasted! I thought they were hydrating; but, I didn't think they did much beyond that!
Repurchase: No

Sally's Garden Secret Garden Olive Oil Ampoule Mask ~ $?

This was an older mask from an Ipsy bag, so they are hard to find now. The packaging is adorable and this mask fit fantastic - it just locked in well to the face. It was really nourishing and hydrating. I really liked this!
Repurchase: If I could find it, I would

The Face Shop Goji Berry Mask ~ $3.00 CAN.

This particular mask appears to not be available anymore - the rest of the Real Nature line is still available. Anyways, it had a lot of essence and was hydrating.
Repurchase: Not available aymore!

Charcoal Eyes by ToGoSpa ~ $15.00 US for 3 sets. Bamboo Charcoal adsorbs impurities and helps to detoxify the under eye area leaving eyes bright and re-energized.

Ugh, reviewed above - this use these masks were fine; but, later in the month they burned and stung my eyes.
Repurchase: Noooo

Mediheal WHP White Hydrating Charcoal Mineral Mask ~ $2.50 US. This whitening and hydrating face mask contains Niacinamide, Adenosine and Charcoal Powder to help control excessive sebum.

I love a black mask - I find the material very different than regular sheet masks! This had a lot of essence and it absorbed well in to the skin! This was really brightening and clearing - I enjoyed it!
Repurchase: Maybe, seems a little hard to find!

January 2019 Month in Masks

Charcoal Eyes by ToGoSpa ~ $15.00 US for 3 sets. Bamboo Charcoal adsorbs impurities and helps to detoxify the under eye area leaving eyes bright and re-energized.

Ugh, I feel like you can see this stinging and burning my eyes here - it was instantly when I put these on this time!
Repurchase: Noooo

The Face Shop Bio-Cell Recovery Mask ~ $4.00 CAN.

Why do I keep finding the masks that get discontinued in a line - there a few bio-cell masks available; but, not the Recovery one. The material was good and this mask was fine. I didn't think it was anything special.
Repurchase: No

The Face Shop Real Nature Aloe Mask ~ $3.00 CAN. Your skin will be soft and supple in a couple of minutes with this Aloe Face Mask.

This mask fits huge, but it is really moisturizing to the face. I usually just stock up on these because they are so accessible when I'm at a store. It's fine - I do wish the fit was better though!
Repurchase: Yes, probably

Dermal Xilix Seal Animal Aqua Moisture Mask ~ $3.00 US. It contains peptide complex, snail mucus which keeps the skin more elastic and moist and it also contains sodium hyaluronate, ceramide3 thus it keeps the dry and rough skin always moist, elastic, clear and healthy.

How cute is this little seal mask?! I love a good character mask and this one even has little ears on it! I thought this was fine and hydrating!
Repurchase: Possibly!

In addition, I also used 14 masks this month, which is pretty good! I'm really trying to get back in to masking and in February, I am doing a full 28 days in February which I'm so excited about!

  2. Wow, you have sooo many empties - impressive! I also love the Laneige lip mask. I haven't had any issues with the Bite mask but I prefer the Laneige and it also made my best of beauty 2018.
