May 2015 Beauty Subscription Box Comparison - Ipsy vs. Beauty Box 5 vs. Topbox vs. Birchbox Canada

This is the last month I will be comparing the 4 inexpensive beauty boxes - Ipsy, Beauty Box 5, Topbox, and Birchbox Canada. May was my last month of Beauty Box 5 and I have chosen not to re-subscribe! You can go here to view my past comparisons including Beauty Box 5, and I will continue to compare Ipsy, Topbox and Birchbox Canada.

Here is my chart comparison:

Here is a closer look at the 4 boxes:

May 2015 Birchbox Canada - Subscription Box Review

Birchbox is the original sample beauty box and has been in the U.S.A. since 2010 - and this is only the 6th month it has been available in Canada. It is $10 a month + $4.95 shipping to Canada (you can save money by signing up for a year for $100 + shipping costs). Each month you receive 5 sample (or full size) products based on a beauty profile you complete.

Birchbox Canada describes itself as:
"Five personalized beauty samples delivered right to your door each month. It’s the best way to find the products you’ll love."

(It should be noted that if you see the U.S. Birchbox - Canadian's receive different products. I hope this expands and we get access to all the products available to out American counterparts soon! I like that some boxes (such as Ipsy and Glossybox) offer the exact boxes to Canadians - I am hoping Birchbox does the same at some point!)

This box is super cute and designed by Cupcakes and Cashmere!

Five on Friday - May 22, 2015

Time for another link up for Five on Friday!!

I really loved only having a 4 day work week - it was nice and quick!! It has been a busy week with some wedding plans so I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend!

Here is what has been happening this week:
ONE

This past weekend saw me plant my very first garden!! Last Summer in the new house was only setting up the backyard, there was no time for flowers and vegetables! So I planted a few pots full of mixed flowers, tomatoes, a blueberry bush and a lilac tree! In my veggie garden I planted: zucchini, squash, beets, carrots, beans, radishes, and lettuce! I am looking forward to seeing if I can grow things!!

Wine + Mask Wednesday (Honey Badger Wine + SNP Tiger Sheet Mask)

On some weeks, Wednesday just cannot come soon enough! Ugh - wedding planning is no joke! So on that note, I am thoroughly looking forward to relaxing night!

My theme for this week's Wine + Mask Wednesday is "Animals"! I thought this was a fun theme and I have the perfect pairing for you guys (but mostly for me!)

My Wine of the Week is:

May 2015 Beauty Box 5 - Beauty Subscription Box Review

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that costs $12 US per month + $3 shipping to Canada. If you sign up for a longer subscription, you get a lower price per box: $30 quarterly, and $99 a year ( plus $3 shipping per month).

Beauty Box 5 has been referred to as the"starter beauty box" - it does not send many high end products and the value tends to be lower than other boxes, but they have sent out really good products!

*As of late, Beauty Box 5's boxes have been very up and down - they have had some great products; however, there have been very low box values and not so good products. I would suggest that you read reviews and see if it is products you like!*

This is actually my last Beauty Box 5 box - I subscribed last year for 1 whole year and chose not to re-subscribe. While there have been some good boxes over the year, there has also been some terrible boxes! I do recommend reading past reviews and making sure that you like what this box offers prior to subscribing!

Here is my May 2015 Beauty Box 5:

Beauty Box 5 always comes in a signature blue box and this was probably the earliest I have seen it delivered!! It usually comes as the last box every month!

May 2015 Topbox - Canadian Beauty Subscription Review

TopBox is a Canadian Beauty Box Subscription - for $12 CDN a month with free shipping, you will receive 4 deluxe sample size or full size products. You fill out a beauty profile and generally receive products based on what you have identified in the profile. Also, every month you have the option to wish for a "prive" box, which is a box that focuses on one brand or product for the whole box.

TopBox is a Canadian company and only ships to Canada. The only downside to subscribing to TopBox is that there is a wait-list that can take a month or two to get off of.

For May, I opted for the regular Topbox. Here's a look:

Topbox always comes in a signature purple mailer!

Skincare Sunday Product Review - Lush Fresh Face Mask "Love Lettuce"

Sorry this post is a little late in the evening - my long weekend Sunday was very busy!

Here is what I am reviewing this week:

Lush Fresh Face Mask "Love Lettuce" ~ $9.95. Love Lettuce is our exfoliating ground almond mask that scoops up dirt, oil and debris and washes it all away. Exfoliation is an important part of good skincare, as it removes the buildup of dead skin that can clog your pores and cause impurities. Love Lettuce is a great example of how just a few ingredients can make a fresh, effective product for the skin. We blend calming French lavender oil with seaweed and honey to nourish and soften skin, and to balance oily T-zones.

Manicure Monday (A'Pieu Nail Mask & ORLY BB Creme)

I have to start this Manicure Monday with a small confession - I was not very nice to my nails this week! I actually let them get too long and did not cut them in time for volleyball and let them get broken! So sad, they were so long and healthy, but I just can't keep them too long while playing sports!

I decided to start this manicure with a different touch - a nail sheet mask! Sounds fun right?! Here is a look:

A'pieu Take my Hands Nail Sheet Pack ~ $4. I received this in the March Beauteque BB Bag!
Nourish nails and calm cuticles with this moisturizing and fun treat for fingers! Wear for 10-15 minutes, then remove and massage remaining essence into skin.

I'm linking up for another Five on Friday! Hope everyone has had a great week - I feel like this week has flown by and I am looking forward to the weekend!
ONE

How cute are these bikini tops?! I just got them off of a friend who decided she has too many! They are perfect - I am trying to gather some new bikinis for the honeymoon later this year but don't want to break the bank doing it! She actually bought these at Target before they decided to run away from Canada!

Mask Genie is a newer all mask subscription service - started in January 2015!

Mask Genie offers 2 different pouches:

  • 5 masks for $12
  • 10 masks for $22
The price for each pouch includes worldwide shipping!

When you sign up for Mask Genie, you must purchase each month individually (although, Genie does say if you contact her you may request automatic re-billing)

Mask Genie describes their service as:
"MaskGenie is a monthly masks membership service, which delivers a beautifully packaged drawstring pouch straight to your door containing a variety of fun and exciting masks from Asia.

Unlike other masks subscription services, MaskGenie gives you the freedom to choose what you buy and when you buy, so you never feel tied to anything. Throughout the year, there will also be Limited Edition Luxury Mask Pouches that you can purchase as an extra treat for yourself or for a friend.

For the past few months I have order the 5 Mask Pouch, so for April I thought I would try the 10 mask pouch - here's a look:

This month the 10 Mask Pouch came in a pink drawstring bag, and I appreciate that Mask Genie takes the time to organize every pouch the same and in a specific order! (I forgot to take a photo again - I don't know what is wrong with me lately?)

Skincare Sunday - VIIcode O2M Oxygen Masks Review

If you are a regular reader of this blog then you know I love all types of masks! I try to use eye masks when I can to help with dark circles and puffy eyes.

So, when I was approached by the company VIIcode to review their eye masks I was quite happy to oblige (these products were sent to me free for my honest review). If you look at their site, they have an eye cream that sells for over $1000! That is slightly out of my price range, but all they make are Eye Cream and Eye Masks so it is their specialty!

Here are the Eye Masks:

Viicode sent me their O2M Oxygen Mask - Eye Mask For All Night ~ $55 for 6 treatments. This mask works to make the skin around your eyes firm and smooth, thus eliminating wrinkles and lightening dark circles by strengthening and healing the skin.

April 2015 Month of Masks in Review

I hope you guys like this new post - I thought I would try something a little different! I use so many masks and only feature a couple on Wednesdays and sometimes on Sundays. I thought by reviewing my month, my readers would be able to see my reviews about more products!

My Skincare Routine is very important to me - you can view my Daily and Nightly routines here if you are familiar with the Korean 10 Step skincare routine! Masks are a big part of this routine and since I have come to love this routine, I have incorporated so many new masks in to my routine! I love trying different brands and different types of masks! Hopefully after this post you love masks as much as I do!

April 1
Deary "Rose Idebenone Whitening Invisible Elastic Mask" ~ $2.20 (pack of 5 for $10.99). A staple in the skincare regimen that makes your face glow like a rose.
This mask was featured for Wine + Mask Wednesday so you can see the whole review here - I liked this mask overall. The fit was a bit big but it did have tabs to help it fit any size and it made my skin tone look much more even after!

Five on Friday - May 1, 2015

I'm linking up for another Five on Friday!

ONE
I participated in a political rally this week!! It was my first time ever! Yesterday we hosted the Rally to Save CYOC and I have to say that I was so impressed my the turn-out! It has really made me see the light the rallying for change and not going down without a fight is worth it - this goes for anything, if you believe in it then fight for it!! (Sadly, no word yet on if our efforts payoff but with an election in a week it really could work!)

TWO

Mmmm - my soup of the week! Easy Thai Shrimp Soup - this was quite easy and delicious! Also, it was a very hearty soup with shrimp, rice and veggies!
