Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - this week was a huge improvement from last week for me and I'm feeling much better and not exhausted and totally overworked! It's been a super quiet week as my older son is away on vacation with his Dad in Mexico and it's kind of crazy - he's been away from me before, but not out of the country!

I  received the January Owlcrate subscription and this month's theme is "Vengeance Will Be Mine". Each month the book Owlcrate includes is signed by the author and includes a note from the author as well - they often have special edition covers just for the box, and they seem to include a lot of exclusive items just for Owlcrate, which is so fun! 

January 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!

Yay - time for my first Shopping Haul of 2020! Early this year, I set one of my 2020 goals to be actually sticking to my $100 a month Beauty Budget - are you ready to see if I was able to do this?!? 

I always love my Monthly Haul posts to share with you everything I picked up (since I can't review everything I buy)! I also am trying to hold myself a little more accountable to buying products that I really want and will actually use!

Oomomo Beauty Haul ~ $17.85 CAN. I finally got to check out the newly opened Oomomo in Calgary - it is a Japanese variety shop that had a ton of stuff! It was super cute and I will go back for sure! I picked up a few different 3D nail stickers (I just used them in a Manicure Monday here). Also, I practiced some self-restraint and only picked up 2 masks because they are Mediheal and I couldn't resist!

I'm keeping up the Shop My Stash makeup looks for 2020 because I've loved using them as a way to play in my makeup collection and create fun and exciting makeup looks!

I typically avoid blue makeup - I think it looks so good on some people; but, it's never felt like a colour that I could pull off! But, because Pantone announced the 2020 Colour of the Year as Classic Blue, I really wanted to have fun with the colour!

Beautylish Lucky Bag 2020 Unboxing

Every Boxing Day (or December 26 for you non-Canadians), Beautylish releases the pre-order for their Lucky Bags which ships in early January (and if you are interested, these sell out quickly!) These boxes are $75.00 US + $15.00 shipping to Canada (with exchange I paid $124.80 CAN); but, you are guaranteed at least $150.00 US worth of makeup. They are all totally random, so it is a complete surprise what you get. Some are extra lucky and include gift cards, etc. 

I picked up the regular lucky bag for fair/medium skin. There was also XL lucky bags, Jeffree Star Lucky Bags, and a Buy One Gift One as other options. I'm a total sucker for these mystery boxes and this is my 3rd year getting one - you can see my past unboxings here!

Five on Friday - January 24, 2020

Happy Friday everyone! I am so excited that it is Friday because holy has it ever been a week! Ugh! 

ONE 

I try not to be too whiny or complainy on here; but, you guys it has been a rough week and I have been feeling pretty terrible all week! We had no hot water for 8 days - it finally got fixed yesterday and it could not be a better time. It's been wearing on me a little bit - cold showers are not pleasant (like I cried because I didn't get a Jilly Box and I yelled over my Beautylish bag) - it's just been a week! Also, Calgary was in this horrible -30 degree weather for a whole week too right as the water went so it's been a little painful. I need a relaxing weekend!

My oldest kid, Damian is turning 15 today! It's so hard to believe that he is 15, almost done Grade 9 and is going to high school later this year! It's crazy - he is an amazing, sweet, thoughtful boy! 

Physicians Formula The Perfect Matcha 3-in-1 Melting Cleansing Balm

I was slow getting on the cleansing balm train - I've been on board with the 2-step cleansing system for years now; but, I have typically used an oil cleanser as my first cleanse instead of a balm. (I think I've tried a couple sample sizes, but nothing consistently!)

Back in the Summer, the Canadian Beauty Bloggers group was featuring Physicians Formula as their brand of the month and I had never actually tried the brand before! So I picked up one skincare and one makeup product from the brand and spoiler alert - I loved them both! It actually got me really excited to try the brand!

I've been watching a lot of The Beauty Consumer Tag videos and thought the questions were really good! I've been trying to be more thoughtful about my purchases and actually focus on using products in my collection so they don't go bad, so these questions all seemed pretty relevant to where I'm at right now! 

Full Face Using All Catrice Products

I've heard of Catrice for a long time and have really wanted to try their products (I mean, their concealer has been hyped up for a long time!) But, until a couple of months ago, Catrice was not available in Canada, so I was pretty excited that they are now available at Shopper's Drug Mart!

Okay, I love trying crazy and out-there skincare products, especially the masks! I've tried crazy ingredients and all different prints, so when I saw a micro-current mask, I knew I needed to try it ASAP!

I was so excited about trying these masks about and I rushed to purchase them because I needed these on my face immediately! Then, I actually squealed when I was contacted by the PR company that represents Franz and they offered to send the the Franz Jet 2-Week Microcurrent Skincare Starter System! 

My 2020 Makeup Collection & Inventory!

There has been a big push in the last year or so in the beauty community to focus on your own makeup collections and using what you have. There have been a ton of No-Buys or Low-Buys, Project Panning and Shop Your Stash type posts. 

Personally, I have still been consuming a fair bit; but, I have been trying to be a little my conscious about what I'm bringing in to my collection overall (but I'm not amazing at sticking to a budget!) I have been shopping my stash, using monthly makeup baskets and palettes of the week, as well as project panning! So, while I'm not setting any goals in terms of having less at the end of the year, I just want to make sure that if I do end up with more products at the end of the year, that I really love them all!

I love looking at people's makeup collection and thought I should combine a look at my collection while inventorying it all! I will say that my collection is spread out in a room (sorry guests, no room for you here - it's full of makeup) and it does help me use everything because I'm very visual!

Happy Friday everyone! Oh man, what a week - I got back from Mexico really late Sunday night/early Monday morning and went right in to a crazy work week and I'm exhausted! (But, I'm still managing the delayed NaBloPoMo month and getting a post up a day, even if they are a little late, they still count!)

The last of my Christmas presents arrived right before we left for our holidays! I was so excited about these 2 little Storybook Cosmetics palettes - The Robin Hood palette and The Red Riding Hood palette! My husband ordered these for me and holiday shipping took soooo long, but they are finally here!

It should come as no surprise that I love eyeshadow palettes and it's clearly the most bought product in my makeup collection! I just love palettes - eyeshadow is by far my favourite makeup product and I love the variety and everything about it!

So, since I picked up 22 new palettes in 2019 (purchased by myself, received in subscription boxes, or PR) I thought I would rate them all and see how much I like and use them all! 

Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Balm in Flirt Me Coral

I'm pretty basic when it comes to my lips - gimme a tinted lip balm and I'm good to go! Seriously, I could go full glam everywhere else and let my lips just be lightly tinted or glossed. I do wear lipsticks on occasion, but I LOVE a good lip balm!

I actually went on a high-end lip balm kick in 2018 and 2019, and I picked up a few brands; but, I've only been using one at a time so this one has been waiting for me to show it a little love (which I did recently when I was on vacation in Mexico recently!)

2019 Fails - The Worst Product Discoveries of the Year

Did you know that I've never actually done a full "worst of" or "product fails" post here?! See The World in PINK means seeing the world through rose coloured glasses, so I always try and write about products I love (of course, not everything works for me and I have no problem writing a less than favourable review), but overall I try and at least find some positives in products that don't work for me.

But, sometimes you try a product and it just doesn't work at all and you can't find a single good thing about them, so I thought I'd share them (one of these actually was one of my favourite products until it totally failed me too!)

Happy Manicure Monday everyone! I just got home from Mexico at 1:00 am this morning and it was so friggin cold (a high of -25 celsius today!) Yikes - a big shock, so clearly I had to go with a Winter theme nail look!

Because I got home so late, I had to do these nails quickly this morning and they only took 15 minutes - they have lots of layers and I used a sponging technique since this months #CBBxManiMonday theme for the month is "experiments"!

Happy Skincare Sunday! If you've been watching my Yearly Favourites, you know I haven't done my skincare favourites yet, so it's time now! Staying on the same track as these yearly favourites, these will be my best discoveries of the year, so not all of them were released this year, it's just the best of what I've tried!

For me, 2019 was really about my skin coming in to it's own - which sounds silly, but 2018 it was all over the place and changed to much more combo/oily. So, while last year was about me trying to get in under control, 2019 was all about trying to find products that worked for me!

How amazing did these Stained Glass nails turn out?! I'm rather obsessed with them and love how they turned out! I also wanted to stick to a blue theme because I wanted to represent the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2020 - Classic Blue! (This is a little on the lighter side of classic blue, but this is what I have in my collection!)

The Funnest Skincare Product of 2019

Yesterday was all about my Favourite product of the year, but as I was collecting everything I loved this year, I had another standout product and it was by far the funnest group of products I used all year - body masks!

Morphe Highlight & Contour Beauty Sponge ~ $10.00 CAN. A latex-free makeup sponge perfect for applying liquid and powder formulations.

This sponge was really hyped up when I first picked it up - this is just too stiff for me in terms of a sponge. I do really like the flat edge, but this just didn't work for me. When I picked up a beauty blender again, it was a relief. This didn't apply my makeup well at all.

Reflections of 2019!

Happy New Years Everyone! I'm wishing you all the happiest of years this year! Before going in to a New Year, I love looking back at the highlights of my past year!

I'm super nostalgic and I love looking back a moments in time and remembering how it was and picturing myself back there (this is why I'm a big scrapbooker too!) I have so many great memories of 2019 and hope 2020 is just as amazing! 

But, what awesome about this year, is it's the end of a decade and the past 10 years have been pretty crazy decade for me! 

Here's me at the start of the decade compared to me at the end of the decade! This whole decade was full of ups and downs for me (mostly ups but a few downs). At the start of the decade, it actually started a little down for me. I was newly single and stayed that way for a couple of years (which seemed like it was forever to me and I was pretty down about it - it can be isolating as a single parent working shift work). But, I ended up meeting my life partner at work and we got married and have together ever since. We added to my family of Damian and I - two kitties and another kid and we bought a house to put them all in!
