Manicure Monday - Watercolour Nail Art

Happy Manicure Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend - it was pretty normal around here and Calgary is finally getting out of it's deep freeze so it feels safe to leave the house again!

I have been loving this month's #CBBxManiMonday theme of "experiments" - it's really helped get me back in to the nail art groove and I've been having fun trying new techniques!

This week I thought I'd try a watercolour nail look - it was fairly easy with polishes and 100% acentone and I think it turned out really pretty! I love how all the colours looked together!

For this week's Mani, I used:

  • Quo 100% Acetone
  • OPI Infinite Shine Gloss Topcoat
  • OPI Infinite Shine Primer
  • Butter London polish in Ultra Violet
  • Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Fuchsia Power
  • OPI Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san
  • Smackers Nail Polish in Wickedly Stylish
  • nail art brush

To create the Mani, I started with nail cleanser and a base coat. Then I applied one coat of white polish as a base coat (you could apply two if you wanted to ensure a really opaque base or if you aren't planning on fully covering the base polish). Then seal in the base polish with a layer of top coat.

Then taking one colour at a time, apply them to a blank surface (I always use a margarine container lid or something similar), then dip a nail art brush in to a little bit of acetone and thin the polish out - then apply on to the nail. Dip the brush in to the acentone and continue to thin out or move the polish around on the nail. Continue with the other polish colours - I started with the purple, then blue, then pink and I personally liked the look of covering the full nail and blending some of the shade in to each other.

I actually really liked how these turned out and this is definitely a technique that I will use again - if you are really good, you can paint nail art designs within the watercolours (I'm thinking florals would look amazing like this!)

  1. I was just watching some watercolour tutorials last night! I want to try the acetone method with polish and with Sharpies! Your mani is super pretty!

    1. Thanks - I like how they turned out! I think I tried a sharpie manicure before too, but can't remember if I used acetone or not!
