Hot Topic The Nightmare Before Christmas Love Is Eternal Eyeshadow Palette A.K.A. I Tried Hot Topic Makeup So You Don't Have To

Hot Topic has some really cute Nightmare Before Christmas products, so I was buying some decor and costume items, I saw this eyeshadow palette and it was pretty cute so I snuck it to give it a try!

I will be honest, this isn't an easy blog post to write - I typically review and talk about products that I really enjoy here, but sometimes there is just something that's really not good and I think I should share so you can avoid making the same mistake! (I know there is some really cute looking palettes at Hot Topic, so I think you should see their quality before you think about picking them up for gifts or anything!)

October Shop My Stash - The Nightmare Before Christmas Sally Makeup

"Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange? Come with us and you will see, this, our town of Halloween. This is Halloween, this is Halloween, pumpkins scream in the dead of night. This is Halloween, everybody make a scene, trick or treat till the neighbours gonna die of fright. It's our town, everybody scream, in this town of Halloween."

Winston & Walter Artisanal Halloween Bath Bombs

Remember when I said at the beginning of the year that I was going to buy less bath bombs this year because I still have lots? Ha, that was before I saw these absolutely stunning bath bombs from Winston and Walter - I couldn't resist!

Winston & Walter is a Canadian bath brand based out of Quebec and they handmake and handpaint all their beautiful bath products and they use all plant-based and natural ingredients.

Winston & Walter Artisanal Halloween Bath Bombs
I purchased all the bath bombs myself (Yes, there is a lot!)

I'm such a huge Halloween person and when I saw all the spooky and horror themed bath bombs, I knew I had to try these! (I went on the cuter end of the bath bombs, because cute spooky is a little more my vibe), but these are all hand-painted and stunning!

September 2020 - Monthly Empties

Whoops, this is pretty late - time for a look at my September beauty garbage:

September 2020 - Monthly Empties
Some products may have been received as PR samples - this post contains affiliate links

Too Faced Damn Girl! 24 Hour Mascara ~ sample size shown (full size is $32.00 CAN and travel size is $17.00 CAN). A high-intensity mascara for maximum drama and lift with revolutionary, creamy-mousse formula for extreme volume without a heavy feel.

This mascara was one of my Favourite Makeup Products of 2020, so I was excited to try this again. Last year, this mascara made my lashes so full and dramatic, without clumping! I loved how my lashed looked, and this time it still made my lashes full, but it was also really smudgy under my lower lash line and I didn't like wearing it this time around.

20 in 2020 Project Pan - Update #5

In December I kicked off my big year-long Project Pan - I am planning on using up or hitting pan on 20 makeup products throughout the whole year and I'm using 10 products at a time. So, I introduced the first 10 products in December, did an update in February, an update in April, an update in June, an update in August, and this is my 5th update!

The Hard Candy and Paula's Choice were received as a PR sample - this post contains affiliate links

At the end of the last update I had reached my goal on 11 products already, which is okay - I was hoping I think to be a little farther along, and I'm starting to feel the crunch a little bit that I might not reach my goal, but I do have some really long term products that I am whittling my way through, so fingers crossed in two months, I can finish 9 more products!

Manicure Monday - Ghost Nails!

I have been spending my weekend nights watching some of my favourite Halloween classics - Casper, Hocus Pocus, and Double Double Toil and Trouble! I clearly have a trend, I love Halloween, but I don't actually love anything super scary, more cute and kinda spooky, but I'm a big wimp and get scared easily, so I need a more happy Halloween theme!

October 2020 - Lush Kitchen Subscription Box

I was SO excited earlier this year when Lush Kitchen announced that they were starting a subscription box, of course I ordered it right away and the first box was in May! It is a little pricey with the conversion to Canada; but, I've only been getting it every other month and I've been loving it!

I purchased this box on my own

The Lush Kitchen Subscription box is a monthly subscription box full of exclusive Lush Labs goodies made exclusively for the box - every month subscribers vote on the monthly menu of products that they would or would not like to see in the box, so you can help pick what is included in the box! Pixi Beauty Eye Effects Shadow Palettes & Nuance Quartettes - Swatches, Try-ons & Thoughts

I'm always excited when I get to try and share more products from a brand that I have been interested in! Pixi Beauty came to Canada in early 2017 and I tried a few products and was really impressed with the skincare products that I tried from them at that time. Then, the next year I really loved their liquid lipstick, so I have been wanting to try more from them and I'm excited to use some new eye shadow and face palettes!

These were received as PR samples - this post contains affiliate links

Pixi Beauty just came out with two new eye shadow palettes - the Eye Effects in Rosette Ray and Hazelnut Haze and two new face palette - the Nuance Quartettes in Sugar Blossom and Honey Nectar and they are so pretty! I haven't tried Pixi Beauty makeup since 2017 and their little eyeshadow I tried then wasn't great, but the brand has really focused on their makeup line since then and I'm very excited to try it again - when this collection showed up in a PR box to me, I was honestly so excited to use everything!

Five on Friday - October 9, 2020

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - I actually took off Thursday and Friday to spend some time with the family and it was really lovely. (It's a little worrisome about seeing too many people as Alberta's covid case numbers are on the rise, but we are just sticking to our immediate family).

Fall Reading List
Magic Lessons and Legendborn were sent as e-ARCs - this post contains affiliate links

I usually share my book themes of the month later; but, since we should all be spending our long weekend hunkered in and reading, I'm jumping in a little early! My Fall Reading list started with Fairytale retellings last month, and for October we are going full on Witchy Magical reads! They feel perfect for Halloween month, and I can't read anything too scary because I'm a bit of a wimp!

September 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!

I always love my Monthly Haul posts, so I can share with you everything I picked up in the month; because, as much as I love blogging, I can't share every single thing I picked up!

Last month, I got rid of my $100 a month goal, and instead I'm sticking to the being more conscious about my purchases and just make sure it's makeup that I will really like before buying it! I want to make sure that I can use and enjoy the products I have in my collection and that I will really use the products I picked up!

September 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!
I purchased everything in this post

Sephora Order ~ $110.25 CAN. I placed this order because I was really excited to try both the Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Cleansing Balm (which already made my September Favourites because it's so good!) and the Natasha Denona Chromium Liquid Multichrome Eyeshadow (also made my Favourites because it's so beautiful - you can see a full post and the shadow on me here!) I finally picked up a full size Laniege Lip Sleeping mask because I've been trying to find more affordable alternative and they have been burning my lips, so I just went for the real thing! My code got me the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream that I've wanted to try for a while! The samples from Smashbox, DevaCurl, Tatcha.

Cheekbone Beauty Face Palette in Stardust Shimmer - Swatches and Try-on

I've already chatted about this palette a few times - mainly in my September 2020 Monthly Favourites, so spoiler alert, I really like this palette!

I've tried Cheekbone Beauty for the first time earlier this year when I picked up their new Sustain Lipstick and loved it! After trying and loving this face palette too, I'm super impressed with the brand and everything that they stand for!

Happy Skincare Sunday everyone! Last year (when we were still allowed to travel), I was so excited to go to a CVS and see Peach Slices masks, so I picked up a few and have been using them throughout the year! It's a brand I wish was available in Canada; but, it does ship to Canada, so you can still get them!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you've all had a good week! Ours has been okay - spent the last half of the week working from home since our little guy got sick, covid tests are not super fun for toddlers (that nose swab was not easy for him!); but, definitely the right thing to do amidst the pandemic and I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Mask Wednesday - The Potion Masters Nourishment Alchemy Mask

Happy Mask Wednesday! I think it's been a little while since I've done a mask post, but I'm really excited for today's mask - it's from a local, Calgary company and I'm always so excited when I find great products locally!

I've talked about The Potion Masters a little bit last year in a Magical Bath Post - they make the most beautiful bath spells! Hard Candy Sheer Envy Perfecting Primer ~ travel size (full size is $8.98 CAN). A skin tone perfecting formula that brightens dull skin while decreasing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and pores to provide a flawless, smooth finish.

I finished this in my most recent Project Pan post - this was a good primer and a really decent drugstore option. I personally have enough primers to last me the next 5 years, so it isn't something I will consider repurchasing for a while; but, it is a good primer!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have had a great week - mine was pretty normal, nothing too crazy! Someone pointed out that it's been 6 months since things shut down in Canada for the pandemic - while things have slowly opened up, it's certainly been different. We are planning on sending out little guy back to daycare next week and my older son has been in school for a couple of weeks now! Crazy!

I always reach for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and it is the perfect book to snuggle up with with the colder nights coming (especially with scented candles inspired by the book - I am actually burning them on Tuesday and cracking open this book for the first day of Fall!)

Fall 2020 - The Jilly Box Subscription

Okay, I'm a big fan of Jillian Harris - I loved her on the Bachelorette, Love it or List it Vancouver, and even have her cookbook. So when she announced last year that she was starting a subscription box, I was so stoked. The first box was the Winter 2019 box and I waiting in an online queue for the whole day trying to get one and sadly, I did not so I have been waiting patiently for a random selection ever since - I finally got picked to receive a Fall box, not a subscription though, just a single box and either way, I was pretty excited!

Fall 2020 - The Jilly Box Subscription Unboxing
I purchased this box on my own

The Jilly Box is a quarterly seasonal subscription box - the products within the box include some of Jillian’s (and Team Jilly’s!) favourite items (and brands!) from home decor, fashion, bath and beauty, health and wellness, accessories perfect for each season. Some of the items included will be custom designed exclusively for the Jilly Box. The Jilly Box really focuses on including products from small, local businesses while being ethically sourced and inclusive. They also focus on reducing plastic waste and packaging - the big boxes can be turned inside out and reused!

Shared Planet Sea Turtle Sea Turtle Highlighting Palette - Swatches and Try-on

A brand that makes makeup products inspired by wild animals and also donates a portions of their proceeds to their preservation and protection?! Count me in!

Shared Planet Sea Turtle Sea Turtle Highlighting Palette
This palette was received as a PR sample

I'm a total animal lover (back in the day, I actually wanted to be a veterinarian, but I couldn't stand seeing an animal hurt, so I scratched that but); so, I was really excited to hear about the brand Shared Planet! This brand is actually founded by a teenage girl and her passion for combining her love of animals with her love of makeup! They are taking inspiration from at-risk animals (right now it's polar bears, tigers and sea turtles) for their makeup products and then they donate 10% of their proceeds to charities and organizations dedicating to helping those animals and I just think this is amazing!

August 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!

I set one of my 2020 goals to be actually sticking to my $100 a month Beauty Budget - and I've been stressing out trying to stick to it. Evidently I am not a "budget" type and I don't want to get myself worked up over it. One of the reasons I wanted to stick to a budget was so that I'm a little more conscious about my purchases and just make sure it's makeup that I will really like and I want to make sure that I can use and enjoy the products I have in my collection and that I will really use the products I picked up!

I always love my Monthly Haul posts to share with you everything I picked up (since I can't review everything I buy)!

I've also been using my Shop My Stash posts as a way to see if I can "Dupe The Vibes" of new eyeshadow palettes that I want to pick up; but, don't really need to because I have close enough products in my collection! I'm well aware that I buy a ton of makeup and I now a lot of it is duplicates; but, one of the reasons that I put myself on a budget is so that I can be more mindful and not buy absolutely everything that catches my eye!

Speaking of things that help with a little pick-me-up, the Tea Dragon books are the cutest books I've read this year! If you want some cute, heart-warming graphic novels to read - the are a must! They also address some topics not always covered in books for younger readers - sign language, disabilities, grief and gender nonconformity in a really gentle, but accepting way!

XO Treatment Room - Pineapple Exfoliating Gel

I have been trying lately to focus on trying out more local and Canadian brands! Especially during covid, it seems like a really important time to support local businesses!

I have been wanting to go see Annie at XO Treatment Room for a long time and it will certainly be my next facial - the reviews are fantastic! In addition to facials and peels, Annie makes her own line of skincare that really focuses on the science and chemistry for some highly acclaimed products! Also, all the products are leaping bunny certified cruelty free.

I purchased this product myself

XO Treatment announced this adorable FruitFace Capsule Collection - basically the Fruit Face is here to lift your spirits and elevate your summer skin care routine since you can't go on that Summer vacation this year! The capsule collection is all about refreshing your face with lightweight products that keep the pores clean, and smelling good enough you could drink them (but don't!) I've made it pretty clear that I loooove fruity skincare, so I could not resist trying something out! This collection came with a Watermelon Hydrating Gel, Fruit Basket Antioxidant Lotion, and Pineapple Exfoliating Gel and since I have a ton of lotions to get through, I had to pick up the pineapple gel!

July/August 2020 - Lush Kitchen Subscription Box

I was so excited when Lush Kitchen announced a few months that they were revamping in to a subscription box - of course I subscribed immediately! The first box was the May 2020 and I skipped the June 2020 box (I hadn't received the May box yet and it's a little pricey with conversion to Canada), so this is the third box in the subscription!

July 2020 - Lush Kitchen Subscription Box

I purchased this subscription on my own

The Lush Kitchen Subscription box is a monthly subscription box full of exclusive Lush Labs goodies made just for the box - every month subscribers vote on the monthly menu of products that they would or would not like to see in the box, so you can help pick what is included in the box! All of the products in each box will be vegan.

Manicure Monday - Neon Pink Summer Nails!

Happy Manicure Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was so busy - farmyard, library, ice cream outings plus a day swimming and all the regular weekend chores in there, so my nails are just a really quick and easy mani today!

I purchased the products in this post

Even when I have very little time to do my nails, I still like them to have something fun on them and my fall back is always nail wraps - they are the perfect way to add a little bit of fun to a nail look really quickly!

Time to take a look at my beauty garbage:

John Masters Organics Antioxidant Cream with Rose & Apricot ~ $41.00 CAN. This decadent cream is infused with apricot, borage and rose oils that douse skin with soothing vitamins A, C & E and essential fatty acids for a hydrated, nourished complexion.

This is a really great moisturizer - I actually just raved about in my July FavouritesIt absorbs well in to the skin and is really nourishing and I have used it as both a day cream and a night cream! I noticed a big difference in the overall appearance of my skin while I was using this!

July 2020 Owlcrate Unboxing
I purchased everything in this post - this post contains affiliate links

I just received my July Owlcrate subscription and this month's theme is "Date With Destiny". Each month the book Owlcrate includes is signed by the author and comes with a note from the author as well - they often have special edition covers just for the box, and they seem to include a lot of exclusive items just for Owlcrate, which is so fun! As a bookworm, I have been loving this subscription!

Summer Glow Makeup Look with New Catrice Products - Insta Bae Palette, Sungasm Face & Body Highlighter and Luminizing Bronzer

I've been really lucky this year to try quite a few Catrice products and I've really enjoyed the products that I've tried from them! So, I was so happy to get a PR package recently with all their new Summer glowy products!

I was really excited to have some new, glowy products to play with - I haven't been wearing a ton of makeup lately (for obvious reasons), and it's made me feel a little uninspired - I have played with my monthly Shop My Stash posts and that's about it; my daily makeup has become quite minimal.

July 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!

I set one of my 2020 goals to be actually sticking to my $100 a month Beauty Budget - last year I attempted this and didn't do so well, so I'm actually trying to be a little more strict on myself! I really want to make sure that I can use and enjoy the products I have in my collection and that I will really use the products I picked up!

I always love my Monthly Haul posts to share with you everything I picked up (since I can't review everything I buy)! I also am trying to hold myself a little more accountable to buying products that I really want and will actually use!

July 2020 What I Bought - Monthly Haul!
I purchased everything in this post

Soo AE Haul ~ $47.28 CAN. I was really excited when I saw that Soo AE came out with a line of Hanbang masks, because I've used them from other brands and really enjoyed them! Soo AE is such an accessible k-beauty brand, so I love seeing these ingredients expanded to more brands! I also loved the look of the fruit line and a wine mask! The Glacier mask was added in as a freebie!

Manicure Monday - Shark Week Nails

duunnn dun... duuuunnnn duun... duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn... it's Shark Week again! And, I've chatted a few times on here about it (I typically do some annual nails for the occasion!)

I'm actually both terrified and totally intrigued by sharks - I would 100% go in a cage to see them; but, when I was snorkelling in open water I was totally afraid to see one on my own! But, I actually really want to plan a trip to see whale sharks!
