Five on Friday - December 13, 2019

Happy Friday everyone! What a week - it's been crazy! We had a busy weekend last weekend with two Christmas parties and then Tuesday my car broke down and I had to rush

ONE

Novelly Yours Exclusive Candle Box November 2019 Stardust & Stories
I purchased everything in this post unless otherwise noted - this post contains affiliate links

So, I've been getting a little bored with beauty subscriptions as of late - I've received all the makeup boxes I could over the past 5 years, so I think I've lost the excitement of them. But, I recently got in to a book box and it sent me spiralling in to the world of bookish goodies, and as a total bookworm, this speaks to me! (Do you remember when I used to have a book challenge page on here?!) So, in this world of bookish goodies, I can across Novelly Yours who makes these stunning candles and then boom, they have a candle subscription and amazingly the November box is about The Starless Sea! I absolutely love Erin Morgenstern and her books - if you saw my birthday post, my husband pre-ordered me a signed copy of The Starless Sea for it's November release! I love the book and the atmosphere it created so I had to have this!)

The Novelly Yours Exclusive Candle Box is $35.00 US (approximately CA$49.85) + shipping. I will be honest that shipping was not cheap to Canada (best to find out on your own if you want to order, but it is a heavier box that it comes in!). Each Novelly Yours box comes with one 9 oz jar, two 4 oz jars, and two 2 oz jars, plus other bookish goodies, all currently designed by Novelly Yours (but it looks like future boxes will have items by other people!) All of the candles and items are exclusive to this box and only any overstock would be sold in stores! (The book is not included in the box!)

The November "Stardust & Stories" box included:
  • 9 oz The Starless Sea candle (Honey, Champagne & Frost)
  • 4 oz Zachary Ezra Rawlins candle (Sage, Ivy, Pine, Vetiver & Almond)
  • 4 oz Sweet Sorrows candle (Paper, Cloth, Sandalwood & Dusty Florals)
  • 2 oz The Harbor candle (Crackling Fire, Amber, Cinnamon & Wood Resin)
  • 2 oz Mirabel candle (Sparkling Wine, Winter Sun, Perfume & Sugar)
  • 2 double-sided art prints with quotes from the book
  • lanyard, vinyl sticker, magnet, bookmark and exclusive pin
Also, each month comes in these printed boxes and I can't believe how stunning it is! The detail in this book is amazing - it even included cut-out stars from books and it was truly amazing! I was so impressed with all the scents and everything was stunning and was so perfect for the theme! So, yes it was completely worth the price and I would consider another month if it's for a theme I really want as the quality is fantastic!

TWO

This past weekend, I hosted our annual girl's Christmas dinner with my favourite group of girlfriends! I cooked the turkey and everyone brings a side and it's the perfect night!

THREE

Also, as part of Girl's Night we usually do some type of gift exchange! We've picked names before for a Secret Santa, but this year we decided to do a White Elephant gift exchange for fun!

I was so excited about the gift that I drew:

I got Fraiche Food Full Hearts by Jillian Harris and Tori Wesszer and I absolutely love Jillian Harris so this is perfect! This is actually a really nice recipe book and it has some really great sounding recipes - I can't wait to use it! Plus, there was some magnets and chocolate!

And I love the gift I gave too:

I put a few fun things together: nice camper mug (received as PR so this was a little add-on), a Lush shower gel, an amazing fruit infusion tea, a little candle, a bath bomb and some scrunchies!

We set our gift limit at $30 and we all got really great gifts - there were masks and slippers and cozy goodies and everyone loved and kept their gifts! (It was the most tame White Elephant exchange I've ever seen!)
FOUR

Here is the last 4 weeks of palettes of the week that I've used! I used The Emily Edit The Wants palette by Makeup Revolution - you can see past looks and swatches of the palette here! I really enjoyed this palette last year and it's still good quality - it's quite a big palette but a pretty selection! Then, I used the Sherlock Holmes palette from Storybook cosmetics - I just received this as part of their subscription last month and think the shadows are super pretty! You can see a look with the palette here, I did get a whole look out of the 3 shadows but it is better to pair with other shadows too! Then, I used both palettes from the Tutti Frutti collection - Razzle Dazzle Berry and Sparkling Pineapple and these are stunning palettes! You can see how the look here, but these are the best quality palette Too Faced has ever made! And, I used the Pat McGrath La Vie En Rose palette - you can see it swatched here and a look with it here. These shadows are stunning and the mattes are soft and blendable and the shimmers are stunning! I love this one!

FIVE

I'm planning on getting a bigger bookshelf soon and so I had to share my little haul of books! I actually got all of these for $20 through facebook marketplace and auctions! I'm trying to pick up some books I loved to add to the shelf and a couple of new ones that I've wanted to read!

I hope you all have a great weekend! We have a pretty quiet weekend, which is nice because the past few weekends have been very busy! I want to finalize all my Christmas stuff and wrap and then I'm all done!

  1. That candle box looks amazing! I love the design of everything, and the scents sound wonderful! I can only imagine that the shipping was steep given the weight of the box, yikes! I love hearing about different types of subscriptions because I've grown tired of the makeup/beauty boxes as well.

    1. I'm totally getting beauty box fatigue and I couldn't resist as this book was so lovely and I love bookish candles! Worth the steep shipping but only on the rare occasion!
