Battle of the Newer Drugstore Liquid Eyeshadows - Try-ons, Swatches and Thoughts

I've picked up quite a few new liquid/cream style eyeshadows that I thought instead of reviewing them all individually, why not compare them all in a "show-down" post?! I'm breaking it down in to drugstore and high-end brands, so let's start with the drugstore shadows since they are more affordable! (And, for the record even though I said battle, I really want all my makeup to get along for the greater good of my face!)

This trend of liquid shadows started with the Stila glitters a couple of years ago and it's exploded since, but especially this year - tons of brands have some type of liquid, cream, glitter or jelly shadow and I love it! I've been pretty impressed with most of the formulas I've tried and they are all a little different which I also think is great!

I love seeing these in the drugstore and more affordable prices, because the Stila and higher end brands will set you back around $30 a shadow! So drugstore prices typically range from $7 to $20 and the couple that I have here don't cover all the brands or formulas out there!

The formulas I am comparing are the Covergirl Exhibitionist Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow, Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Shimmer Eyeshadow, Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Lid + Line + Lash (two swatches as it's double sided), and the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Liquid Shadow.

You can see they all swatch quite different and I like that in a formula - if they were all the same, why would we buy from more than one brand?! I like being able to reach for different formulas depending on my needs for that eye look!

Covergirl Exhibitionist Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow in Gilty Party ~ $14.49 CAN. It’s your time to shine! These super sparkly liquid glitter shadows are the best way to amplify your eyes. With its smooth, lightweight feel and quick dry down, you’ll achieve shimmery colour in a flash.

So if you saw my November Monthly Favourites, then spoiler alert - this was one of my favourites. This formula is fantastic - it's exactly what I think of in a liquid glitter shadow. Or, it's more of a full shimmer base but looks more glittery on the eyes. This was nice and opaque on the eyes and I didn't need a base shade underneath it at all. It was long-wearing, lasted all day and just looked very pretty on the eyes all day!

Here is a look at Gilty Party on the eyes - it's all over the lid the inner/middle lid and it's super pretty! I love that this can be used lightly as just a pop to a daytime look or build it up for a really bold night look! Love this one!

Wet N Wild MegaLast Liquid Shimmer Eyeshadow in Bone Appeit! ~ $7.49 CAN. Our most unBOOlievable Liquid Shimmer Eyeshadow hugs every contour of your eye for multi-dimensional shimmer finish with every sweep. To help ensure a FANG-tastical Halloween evening, the MegaLast Liquid Shimmer Eyeshadow is a long-wearing formula that goes on wet and quickly dries to a shimmery finish.

Alright, this is clearly a Halloween themed shimmer eyeshadow - Wet n Wild also has a Liquid Catsuit Eyeshadow formula in similar finishes as well and I imagine the shimmer finishers are comparable, although I can't be for sure as I haven't tried them, they just look similar. And, just looking at this shade, I'm certainly thinking it would be better of described as a glitter eyeshadow as it's more than just shimmery!

Here is a look at Bone Appeit all over the lid - from the swatch above and this you can tell that it's not an opaque formula, but more of a glitter topper over a base shadow. I love the glitter in this because it has both larger and smaller pieces (although this did make both eyes look slightly uneven, so it took a little back and forth to balance them out). But, this is a pretty topper and I see myself reaching for this a lot - I love adding a hint of glitter to looks and the white shade of these makes me think they will look amazing over all colours of shadows!

Revlon PhotoReady Eye Art Lid + Line + Lash in Topaz Twinkle ~ $10.99 CAN. Expertly coordinated shades and contrasting finishes make it easy to design an eye look that’s all your own. The cream shadow glides on effortlessly for smooth, rich color on your lids. Add brilliant sparkle on lids, as a liner, or on the tips of lashes.

I thought this Revlon one would be fun to try too as it's not just a liquid shadow, but can also add a glitter topper or liner to the look (I guess you can apply it to your lashes as well, but that's not really what I would do with it). In one of my first time trying a drugstore liquid shadow, I tried the Hard Candy Glitteratzi that is dual sided and I loved that I could get a few different looks out of one affordable eyeshadow! The shadows in this have a sort of metallic sheen and then the look can be amped up with the glitter over top. The only thing about this one was that I didn't love the glitter liner brush - if it's not going to be a doe foot like the other side, it should have been a little longer and skinner to make for easier application.

Here is Topaz Twinkle on me - it is all over the inner and middle lid, and the glitter liner is along the top lash line. I actually really like the finish of the eyeshadow - I don't have many that are just metallic without a strong shimmer or glitter to them, so I like that it's a bit different. The glitter liner brush wasn't great to use so it didn't apply well as a liner and I think I'm more likely to use it as a lid topper as the glitter is quite fine and would a strong pop to the lids!

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Liquid Shadow in Fools Gold ~ $9.96 CAN. Color Tattoo Eye Chrome™ liquid shadow glides on lids for a vivid metallic look. Metallic intensity and high tenacity colour brilliantly combine to saturate your lids in liquid chrome shine for up to 24 hours!

I was really impressed with this formula on swatch and application - it was very opaque and it was really unique to the bunch. It has a chrome finish to the shadow itself, but when it's applied to the eye, it has a ton of glitter in it and it's really pretty on! I didn't test out the 24 hour wear time, but I certainly did think that this was a long lasting formula and it held up well through a whole day or wear without smudging, fading, or creasing.

Here is Fools Gold on me - I know this eye look doesn't look fully complete (it wasn't) but I was just so impressed with the amount of sparkle this shadow had in it that I had to capture it before adding much more to the look! This is going to be perfect for a glittery smoky eye - I'm thinking a New Years look with this would be amazing! And, they obviously have lighter shades than this too, but I also not only wanted to test out all the formulas, but make sure they weren't the exact same colour so I could have some variety in my collection too!

I'm so on board with this liquid shimmery shadow trend - it's a perfect way to add a quick pop to any look and it really just adds a pop with little effort! I liked all 4 formulas I tried - personally, I will likely reach for the Covergirl shadow the most, just because it's what I think about when I think of a liquid shimmer shadow and I love that it's opaque. They will all get used for different purposes!

I know I'm just scratching the surface of drugstore shimmer and liquid shadows - do you have a formula that you love?! I'd love to test it out!
