Five on Friday - December 27, 2019

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have had an amazing week and a fantastic Christmas or holiday, however you celebrate! I had such a busy week - lots of family time with my family and my husband's family! And, Christmas with the kids was amazing!

It's time for a look at my Winter 2019 Reading List! I always like to pick a variety of books to read over each season. But, my to-read list is getting so long, I've had to break it up in to fiction and non-fiction reads, so this is my fiction list for Winter!

I always track my books on GoodReads, so if you have GoodReads and want to connect - you can find me here! I really love seeing what everyone is reading and I always find recommendations for myself from your reading lists! The fiction books I'm planning on reading this Winter are:
  • Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw ~ this is such a beautiful book that I received in the November Owlcrate box. It's about dark, magical woods and it just feels and looks like the perfect Winter read!
  • The Innocents by Michael Crummey ~ this book has been talked about everywhere - it's been on a few lists for high-profile book awards and it is a Canadian book about a brother and sister isolated in a Newfoundland Cove and their survival through the years.
  • Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield ~ this is a historical fiction novel about a young girl brought in to a magical inn and two families hoping it is a young girl missing from their own families. Sounds really interesting!
  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater ~ this is a whole series about a psychic's daughter who meets a group of boys searching for magical ley lines in their town to awaken a Welsh King, Glendower. This is such a highly reviewed series, and I actually read this first book already and thought it was decent, but it did actually really hook me in to want to find out more about the characters and what happens with the story, so I want to read the whole series.
  • Caraval by Stephanie Garber ~ this is another series that I want to read, and I've already read the first book! I really enjoyed the first book and the premise of going to Caraval, this magical performance game where you seek out a prize. It was such a fun storyline and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
  • Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline ~ this is a story inspired by the traditional Métis story of the "Rogarou" - a werewolf-like creature that haunts the roads and woods of Métis communities, where a women has been searching for her husband who went missing a year earlier, and finds him in a new life with no knowledge of his previous life. She sets out on a mission to convince him of who he is. Another Canadian read and I really enjoyed the author's first book, so I'm looking forward to this.
  • The Secret Love of Geek Girls: Expanded Edition by Hope Nicholson, Margaret Atwood and Marjorie M. Liu ~ this is a fun anthology mixing a few different writing styles - prose, comics, and illustrated stories on the lives and loves of amazing women and all about stories about love of geeky things - video games, comics, and sci-fi and those who work behind the scenes in the industry. (Also, good for me - I didn't know this was non-fiction until right now).
What's on your Winter reading list?! I will round up my non-fiction picks soon too!

TWO

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas! I had such a great time with the family (and my little monkey was up at 4:00 am) playing with his toys and waiting to see what Santa brought him.

THREE

Here is a look at some of the goodies I got for Christmas (not everything, just some of the highlights!) My mom made us a new quilt, I got a new pair of Ugg slippers, lots of masks, the Jaclyn Hill highlighter palettes, tons of bath bombs, Harry Potter coffee and tea and Nutella. Plus, wine, money and lots of other fun goodies! I also got two mini Storybook Cosmetics palettes, but they didn't make it here in time! I'm so excited about everything!

FOUR

Here is a look at everything that came in my Body Shop advent calendar! I got lots of body wash, lotion, body butter, scrub, shampoo and conditioner, bath bombs, hand cream, soap and lip balms. There was a few little extras like loofah and nail file.

FIVE

Time to recap my December Monthly Makeup Basket:
  • Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection ~ This is such a pretty palette and I love the highlighters and the blush are lovely. This is still good quality and I enjoyed using it this month.
  • Buxom Wanderlust Primer-Infused Blush in Ibiza ~ This is a newer blush in my collection and earlier this year, this formula was really hyped up! It is very pigmented and a little bright, but it does wear really well.
  • Cover FX Enhance Click Highlighter Stick in Blossom ~ I just don't like stick highlighters I think - it's not a formula that works for me.
  • ColourPop Coronation Pressed Powder Highlighter ~ This is a really pretty highlighter - it's more subtle and it wears really nicely! I love Aurora and this is a good formula.
  • ColourPop Disney Designer Enchanted Mirror Pressed Powder Blush ~ This is from the same collection as the Aurora highlighter, and I absolutely love this formula and colour. It's a nice subtle pink that can be built up but leaves a beautiful flush and looks really nice on! So pretty!
I hope that you all have a great weekend!
