The 5 Worst Products I Tried in 2020 - Makeup, Skincare, Hair and Bath!

You should know by now that I really try and shy away from poor or negative reviews - I like to keep things positive around here, so I typically share things I love! Now, that doesn't mean I will lie, if something isn't great I would never say it is, but I tend to keep my content to things I enjoy.

But, I make an exception for the Worst Products of the year, because these aren't just a little bad or I didn't like them, these are all pretty terrible products that I could never recommend them! Also, if you are looking for something more upbeat, make sure you check out my Top 10 Favourite Beauty Products I Tried in 2020 instead!

The 5 Worst Products I Tried in 2020 - Makeup, Skincare, Hair and Bath!
The Me! Bath product was originally received as a PR sample (this one was a gift), this post contains affiliate links

It's 2021, but do we still need disclaimers like, "just because I didn't like this single product, doesn't mean I don't love the brand" or, "please, don't be offended if one of these is your favourite products"? Because, yes all of that is true, and I think it should go without saying - a lot of these products are from brands that I like and have tried other things from and one product is not a reflection of the whole brand!

It's just chance that there is 5 products (although, the organizer in me loves that it's such a nice clean number!), and there is products from almost all categories: makeup, skincare, bath and hair products!

The 5 Worst Products I Tried in 2020 - Makeup, Skincare, Hair and Bath!

Hot Topic The Nightmare Before Christmas Jack & Sally Love is Eternal Eyeshadow Palette ~ $16.90 US. Jack and Sally's love is eternal just like your love of makeup. This eyeshadow palette will be sure to give you the perfect spooky, smokey eye. There are 5 shimmery and 7 matte shades, each with their own The Nightmare Before Christmas-inspired name.

This was a pretty terrible eyeshadow palette - you can see the swatches and me attempting to try this palette on my eyes here to see for yourself! The shadows were not pigmented at all, they didn't blend and they were so patchy and awful. I haven't actually tried any other makeup from Hot Topic, but after this, I don't think I will be, which is too bad because they have some adorable packaging. But, I wouldn't even buy this as play makeup for someone.

L'oreal Paris Magic Shampoo Tropical Splash Invisible Dry Shampoo ~ $10.49 CAN. Refreshes hair without leaving visible white residue. Volumizes roots and creates body. Perfumes hair with a tropical fragrance.

Alright, I might have gotten really picky about dry shampoo, but I think this is the worst one that I've tried. I loved the idea of the Tropical Splash scent as well as the promise of no white residue. But, this didn't do much - it didn't remove any oil from my hair, so it still looked greasy and it didn't add any volume. What it did add was a gritty texture, but not in a good texture spray way, just in a gritty gross way. I stopped using this.

The 5 Worst Products I Tried in 2020 - Makeup, Skincare, Hair and Bath!

No7 Nourishing Cleansing Balm ~ $14.00 CAN. A nourishing cleansing balm which works to dissolve away make-up, impurities, and pollutants. Enriched with nourishing oils to help gently smooth away dryness, without leaving any residue. Leaves skin feeling perfectly clean, soothed, and silky soft.

Earlier this year, I was trying some affordable cleansing balms and was hoping they would all be good, so I had some affordable options! But, this just didn't did it for me, unfortunately, it was so heavily scented, and the scent actually lingers after you've used the cleanser and rinsed it off, that it was overwhelming. It was way too much for me and I'm not particularly scent sensitive. But also, this wasn't very effective of a cleanser. It left makeup residue on my face and I think I may have had a reaction and had little tiny breakouts after using this!

Milani Rose Butter Lip Mask ~ $14.99 CAN. Formulated with Rose Oil, Shea Butter, Cupuacu Butter & Hyaluronic Acid, this overnight lip mask hydrates, conditions, and helps repair lips as you sleep for smoother, softer, petal-perfect lips.

Again, I was trying to find some alternatives to a most expensive lip mask, but this was absolutely awful. This actually burned my lips and caused these little blisters and bumps all over my lips and it took quite a while to repair them - it was really painful.

Me! Bath Unicorn Magic Bath Bomb ~ $4.99 CAN. This bath bomb is formulated with a unique six oil blend to leave your skin feeling super soft!

Okay, I normally wouldn't have a bath bomb that I just used, but my husband picked me up a couple of these for Christmas unaware that it was not good. And you must wonder, what could be so bad about a bath bomb for it to make your worst products? But, this is filled with some sticky goo that doesn't dissolve, but instead sticks to your skin and does not come off. It reminded me of bandaid goo that is hard to remove and it was everywhere - it was in my hair, all over my body and the tub. It was awful, I tried to shower and scrub it off and it took two days before it came off. I thought I was just being crazy, but then I saw the Shoppers reviews and realized that I was not the only one! I've tried the blue mermaid one from this brand and liked it, so I will stick to that one. This one - never again (I had to tell my husband that I couldn't use a little piece of his gift!)

Alright, sorry for the negativity, but if you pick one of these up and it's not good, don't say I didn't warn you! Anything particularly terrible you tried this year that you'd like to warn me about?

  1. I agree! I found the No7 cleansing balm to be awful...not even for the scent but it was super ineffective for me too.
