Five on Friday - June 12, 2020

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - it's been another crazy week here. My husband is on 14 day isolation for potentially being exposed to a covid case and so we've both been tested, as we work in a congregated living placement so everyone had to be tested. I'm working from for the week awaiting our results (we are very confident that everything will be negative; but, it just added stress for the week and hard to be home so much!)

ONE

may 2020 owlcrate
I purchased everything in this post - this post contains affiliate links

I just received my May Owlcrate subscription and this month's theme is "Rebels With A Cause". Each month the book Owlcrate includes is signed by the author and comes with a note from the author as well - they often have special edition covers just for the box, and they seem to include a lot of exclusive items just for Owlcrate, which is so fun! As a bookworm, I have been loving this subscription!

This month the items included in the box are:
  • Incendiary by Zoraida Cordova ~ this is a book set in Inquisition Spain where the main character is a memory thief and is a rebel spy working against the Crown. Sound like there is some love and twists and turns in there - I hadn't heard of this book prior to to the box, so I'm excited! This book has an exclusive (although this may be the first time I prefer the original cover!), and it is signed with a letter from the author as well.
  • Enamel Pin ~ I accidentally covered this pin up with the author letter, but it's the alman stone that is the memory holding stone in Incendiary, and it was designed by Pennyslug Design.
  • Wooden Magnet ~ this was created by Juniper and Ivy Designs that features an empowering quote from The Bone Season and it says "Never Allow Yourself To Believe You Should Be Silent".
  • Stainless Steel Straw Set ~ This is a set of quite a few stainless steel straws, straight and bent and different colours with a cleaning straw and a canvas pouch with a quote from An Ember in the Ashes that says "So Long As You Fight The Darkness You Stand In The Light" and it was designed by @paperbackbones
  • Vinyl Stickers ~ these stickers are meant for anywhere - water bottles, notebooks, etc. and they were designed by Nerdy Ink and include rebellious quotes from Margaret Atwood, Caroline Caldwell and Marie Rutkoski.
  • Witchy by Ariel Slamet Ries ~ I was so excited when Owlcrate announced that there would be a second book, a graphic novel in this box! It is set in a kingdom where the strength of your magic is determined by the length of your hair; but if your hair is too long, you are pronounced an enemy. This comes with an exclusive cover as well.
  • Pot Holders ~ these pot holders were designed by Little Inkling Design inspired by Heart of Iron and they say "May The Stars Keep You Steady And The Iron Keep You Safe".
If you are interested in signing up, Owlcrate is $29.99 US per month, plus shipping ($7.99 to the US, $9.99 to Canada, and $19.99 worldwide).

I know that this is a little expensive with conversion, but I'm a bookworm and I've really been loving the products they send and love some of the exclusive items they include!

TWO

I just got my May 2020 Scratch Monthly Mani Kit and as always, it is super cute! This is an easy, affordable subscription that features nail wraps from GoScrachIt that are exclusive to the kit each month and designed by NinaNailedIt!

The Scratch Monthly Mani Kit is $18.00 US monthly with free shipping everywhere! Each month you get an exclusive set of wraps that aren't available for purchase and a few extra little mani goodies!

This month's subscription came with:
  • HBD nail wraps
  • pumice stone pusher
I have to say, these nail wraps are easily my favourite nail wraps to use - I have tried quite a few wraps and nothing compares! You can see past reviews and nail looks on Scratch wraps here if you are interested! These ones are really pretty!

THREE

my garden

I mentioned last week that I ordered a few more flowers to fill out my garden, so I planted 13 new plants in there to help cover and waiting for them to bloom a little more! I also ordered some more fancy flowers, but the bulbs won't be delivered until the Fall as it's too late to plant them now!

FOUR

I finally did a massive closet purge and tried on every piece of clothing I have in there and I cleared out so much stuff that doesn't fit anymore! Honestly, my body has changed since Elliott and this was to hoping that it would magically melt away and even if it did, this probably all wouldn't fit. So, I ordered a bunch of new stuff and just looking forward to not being able to fit in to half my clothes! I ended up with 2 small bags of garbage, 2 huge bags of donations and 3 bags to sell/auction!

FIVE

I was really heartbroken this week to read J.K. Rowlings tweets and letters this weeks about her views on transgender men and women and it's just so baffling that people are so unaccepting. I jut don't get how you have to argue and argue about something, if you don't get it, keep your mouth shut and educate yourself. Or really, how does someone else being trans effect you so much that you have to argue about their menstruation. Anyways, I absolutely unfollowed her. Trans rights are incredibly important. Harry Potter is truly magical world to me though and can we just agree that the fandom has really made it what it is and we no longer need an author to truly still believe in the magical place?!

I hope you all have a great weekend!
