Cheekbone Beauty - Courage Cream Duo in Biskane and Harmony Lipgloss in Sweetgrass

I'm such a fan of Cheekbone Beauty - I've certainly raved about their products on here before and still use their Unify Multi-Pencil (previously Sustain Complexion Pencil) and I love to see where this brand is going and what else they come out with!

Cheekbone just released a new product - the Courage Cream Duo for a good cause - the Cheekbone Beauty Scholarship Fund! The Cheekbone Beauty Scholarship Fund was set up in honour of our Founder & CEO, Jenn Harper's grandmother, Emily Paul, who was a Canadian residential school survivor. The scholarship offers funding to Indigenous students who are attending a Canadian or U.S. post-secondary institution in any area of study.

Here's a look at the products I was loving in September:

Monthly Beauty Favourites ~ September 2023
The Biotherm was received as PR - this post contains affiliate links

Last year I started just picking any number of products I'm loving, instead of trying to find 5 each month (which I did previously!) So, whatever number of products I'm loving, that's what I will be sharing.

Five on Friday - April 14, 2023 ~ Go As A River Book Review, Easter, 11 Year Dating Anniversary, New Ikea Day Bed, and New Lost in Layers Spring 2023 Outfit

Happy Friday everyone - hope you all had a good week! It's been a little busy around here, but we are over the kid's sickness in the house and have a busy weekend with family planned!

ONE

Go As A River was received as a review copy - this post contains affiliate links

I've been loving having more book reviews on the blog, and it's also helped me work with publishers, so I'm happy to be part of the Penguin Random book reviewers and today I'm sharing my thoughts on the adult historical fiction novel, Go As A River by Shelley ReadThis story spans 30 years and starts in the 1940s with a teenage girl on her families peach farm - she is the only girl in a family struck by many tragedies. She has a quick, passionate affair with a young man passing through town, however quickly finds out of racism and it ends in tragedy. Victoria escapes to the wilderness and on her eventually return to town, a damn is being proposed that would render the town un-livable. She takes her peaches and eventually settles in a new spot, then the book really delves in to found family and friends, re-connection and rebuilding. It is beautifully written and there is a lot that goes on. I enjoyed the setting and the resilience of the characters. I did think it was a slower start and it took me a bit to connect to the characters, but halfway through as we were really getting in, I could not put it down and I was rooting for all of our characters, and it was tragic and hopeful and beautiful! Solid 4 star read.

Xo Treatment Room Skincare - New Makeup Products

I'm so excited for this post - if you guys have been around for the past year or two, then you know I've fallen in love with local Calgary skincare brand, XO Facecare created by XO Treatment Room owner, and skincare genius, Annie. Annie truly is a chemist and actual product formulation extraordinaire - the XO Facecare Vitamin C serum and the Intergalactic Lactic Acid night are truly game-changing in my routine.

These products were received as PR samples

So, following Annie and knowing that she was starting to formulate makeup I was so excited - these are staying to her roots and are a skincare focused makeup line. These are products that are meant to be used minimally and just to enhance our skin and still be good for our skin while we are wearing them.

Trying Out Adrienne Furrie Cosmetics - Swatches and a Makeup Look

I'm always so excited to try a local brand and share my thoughts - Adrienne Furrie is a Calgary makeup artist who also created a makeup line from her years of professional makeup artistry in studio, on sets, and working with everyday modern women!

I purchased these products on my own

I discovered Adrienne Furrie through a friend - she also runs a subscription box, Lovely and Local and includes the AF makeup products, plus local Calgary products in the box as well. So, as soon as I heard there was a local Calgary makeup brand, I knew I had to try out a few of their products!

Cheekbone Beauty Unify Multi-Pencil - Swatches, Review and Thoughts

I have been using and loving Cheekbone Beauty for a couple of years now - I think I first tried their Sustain lipstick in April 2022 and have since picked up face products and more that I have really been enjoying! Also, it's been so exciting to see this brand shine in the past couple of years - they are in Sephora now and it's great to have this Canadian, Indigenous Woman owned brand be so prominent!

Also, have to note - I'm loving their position on social media of no filters - they are proudly sharing their makeup with lines, pores, blemishes, scars, etc. We are all human!

Okay, I raved a little about XO Treatment Room's skincare line, XO Face Care here before - it is a Calgary Facialist brand, run by Annie who proudly whips up formulas full of chemicals good for your skin!

I have been following XO Treatment Room for a long time and I have been using their products for the last year or so and loving them! (It's my goal this year to get my butt in their place for an in person facial this year, but in the mean time, I will keep using all their products!)

I always love these haul posts - it's a way to keep track of everything that I picked up every month. I don't always blog about everything I pick up (I try to), but if you ever spot anything in here that you really want me to talk about, let me know!

Last year, I got a little crazy about trying to stick to a crazy budget and this year I'm just going to buy what I want and try and be reasonable about my purchases!

Summer 2021 - The Jilly Box Subscription

I'm a big fan of Jillian Harris, so when she announced last year that she was starting a subscription box, I was so excited! The box started with the Winter 2019 box and sadly, I was not one of the lucky originals who won a subscription spot, so I sign up every season and hope to get picked for a lottery spot!

Summer 2021 - The Jilly Box Subscription
I purchased this box - this post contains affiliate links

The Jilly Box is a quarterly seasonal subscription box - the products within the box include some of Jillian’s (and Team Jilly’s!) favourite items (and brands) from home decor, fashion, bath and beauty, health and wellness, accessories perfect for each season. The Jilly Box really focuses on including products from small, local businesses while being ethically sourced and inclusive. They also focus on reducing plastic waste and packaging - the big boxes can be turned inside out and reused! Also, they try to include Canadian, woman owned brands, and this box also includes 3 LGBTQ+, BIPOC and Minority owned brands!

Happy 7 Year Blogiversary! Celebrating With A Self Care Giveaway Supporting All Local Calgary Brands!

Today, May 12, marks the 7th Blogiversary of See The World in PINK! It's a little crazy that 7 years ago I started this blog with a little Manicure Monday post - Hearts, Glitter and Stripes! I actually started this blog with reviewing subscription boxes and my manicures (so they have been a regular since the start!)

It took me a couple of years before I started doing full beauty content and really getting in to the makeup and skincare side of things! But, I'm so happy I've expanded in those areas and I love where See The World in PINK has gone over the past 7 years!!! I know I'm still a tiny blog in the beauty world; but, I'm still happy with everything that I've gotten to do over the past few years in this little space!

Happy 7 Year Blogiversary! Celebrating With A Self Care Giveaway Supporting All Local Calgary Brands!
I purchased everything myself for this giveaway

I always like to use my Blogiversary as a way of saying thank you to YOU for reading my blog or popping in here and there if a post interested you - either way I always appreciate someone reading my posts! I'm so thankful and appreciative that anyone stops by and reads my blog and I always hope you enjoy what you see! Thank you so much for supporting See The World in PINK in any way!
