Five on Friday - February 9, 2023 ~ YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, February Most Anticipated Reads, Spirited Away, Little Gift From A Friend, and Sheets, Delicates and Lights Grahpic Novel Book Reviews

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week!

ONE

I purchased everything in this post

It's the start of YYC Hot Chocolate Fest - each February a whole bunch of Calgary places participate by making fancy and fun hot chocolates and donate a portion of all sales to Meals on Wheels. We always have fun buying a few and supporting a good cause over the month!

TWO

I love sharing my most anticipated books - here's a little look at what is coming out in February that I'm excited for!

THREE

Okay, I know I'm a little behind, but I didn't ever grow up with Studio Ghibli films so I'm just getting started on checking most of them out! I just watched Spirited Away and I really enjoyed it! Weird and cute and I can't wait to check out more!

FOUR

I had coffee with a friend and I got a few little gifts as I was leaving - we like to thrift and pick things up, so how cute are these Chinese Laundry shoes she found?! And I always like vegetarian cookbooks so going to check this one out!

FIVE

I just finished the cutest graphic novel series - Sheets, Delicates, and Lights by Brenna Thummler. This is a middle grade/ YA series that follows our 13 year old main character who is trying to maintain the family business while the family is dealing with grief, as well as deal with people trying to take advantage of her, but then this ghost comes along and wrecks even more havoc on her laundromat, but she befriends a little ghost in the process. We follow them and meet a few new characters as these two navigate their lives through middle school.

it definitely touched on some heavy topics, including loss of a parent as a teenager and watching another parent not be present dealing with the grief. Then the further books dealing with bullying and potential self harm thoughts and we dive in to a story of death in the third book. But, it also deals with these in a very approachable way and it's focus on friendship and coming together are really strong. I loved the pastel colour story of this book too and the art style really worked for me. These are all 4.5 stars reads for me!

I hope you all have a good weekend!
