Yesterday was the first day of Fall, and since I'm not much of a planner for my reading, I try and stick to a little bit of a reading "theme". At the start of Fall I'm always reaching for cozy, Fallish books - thinks cozy fantasies and enchanted woods and lands are exactly what I'm craving!
Here's a few Fall books I'm planning or reading soon:
- Under The Whispering Door by T.J. Klune ~ This is set at a little crossing where the dead are passing through, until a reaper comes for the owner. All about living life when you think it's over. I just read my first TJ Klune book a couple of weeks ago and fell in love - think cozy fantasy with a gay love story too! Cannot wait for this one!
- Lonely Castle in The Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura ~ This is described as a "warm, puzzle-like bestseller laced with gentle fantasy and compassionate insight" - about a group of students who are transported to a castle to help unlock the secrets of it. This is a work translated from Japanese, and it's not quite available in Canada yet (I picked it up from a UK site here!)
- Among The Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston ~ I've been reading some past Ashley Poston books, and I love that she writes a variety of books. This one is a young adult fantasy that sort of focuses around this enchanted forest on the border of a kingdom and there is forest creatures featured (sounds perfectly Fall-ish to me)!
- Long Live The Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw ~ Oooh, Shea Ernshaw is the Queen of Fall reads - she writes the most atmospheric reads and I think her writing a Sally Skellington book just screams Fall vibes to me. This is a young adult fantasy following the events of the movie - I love Sally, so I'm hoping this is great! I'm in the middle of reading it right now!
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern ~ Okay, this one is a little bit of a cheater because I have to re-read this book EVERY Fall! It's hands down my absolutely favourite read - it's a beautiful atmospheric fantasy read about a magical circus and it's stunning. You need to read this this Fall if you have not! I will reading it right away.
What are you planning on reading this Fall?
TWO
Mitch and I went to Canmore this past weekend for our friend's wedding - we had such an amazing time. We went for a walk for a couple of hours, enjoyed a beautiful wedding at the Nordic Centre, and then for a hike on Sunday before coming home! We hiked the Three Sister's Pathway - we went and saw a waterfall (and got a tad little lost), but it was such a beautiful weekend!
THREE
I picked up a few fun Amazon finds, and I thought I'd share them! The first is the set of the mini cutters and forks because I've been using these for making cute fruits in Elliott's lunches (he seriously loves them!). Then I picked up a big set of reusable bags - I'm going to start freezer meal prep and think these will be perfect! I also picked up a fitness watch - I've used this brand in the past and it's cheap so I picked up another one and hopefully will start wearing mine again (for only $40, it looks just like an apple watch!) Then I picked up a couple of cute snacks for decorating: unicorn chipits and strawberry creme Swedish berries!
FOUR
Okay, I have a great pair of black booties, but I needed a pair of tan ones - a friend let me know they were at Walmart and they are perfect! These are the Time and Tru Women's West Ankle Boots - these are only $29 CAN and they are perfect! I can't wait to wear these!
FIVE
Elliott was gifted a Little Passports subscription for Christmas, and we just got the ninth delivery! Little Passports is a kids subscription company that focuses on "play-based science and geography kits delivered monthly." They offer 5 different subscriptions for ages 3 - 8+ and they have 3 different Geography based subscriptions and 2 Science subscriptions.
So, Elliott is getting the Early Explorers meant for ages 3-5 and it's described as "discover the world’s wonders, from oceans to art to animals through hands-on activities, games and stories." This subscription is $27.95 US monthly, and you can also add on a book for $9.95 - you save more if you subscribe to a longer term. The first month comes with a little suitcase and passport to set you up for future months. I think this subscription sends you things based one your subscription term as opposed to having a new set of activities each month (meaning every subscriber will get the Animals theme for month 5 of their subscription term, instead of Animals being only the April 2022 theme).
So, this is the 10th month the theme is "Let's Wonder About Weather" - each month you will receive a themed package with an interactive souvenir, activity booklet, a puzzle, stickers, and more. This one came with paper a felt weather tracker, a puzzle, stickers, etc. There has been a puzzle in the last 5 or 6 months and it would be nice if they had a bit more variety in the box!
I hope you all have a great weekend!
