Five on Saturday - November 28, 2020

Happy Saturday everyone! What a week it's been - the covid cases having been spiking in Alberta and we re-went under a state of emergency and lots more restrictions were imposed, including High Schools being at home until January and no social gatherings at all. So, it's been crazy, but I would rather be safe!

ONE

I purchased everything (other than the borrowed library books) - this post contains affiliate links

Time for a look at my November Reading list! I always find November is the month when I want something dark or moody and atmospheric - it's just after Spooky October and it's starting to be cold and dark, so something that I can curl up with a warm blanket and read. I think these all have a little magic or weirdness and they feel perfect for the month!

(If you are a bookworm too and are on Goodreads, I would love to connect - you can find my Goodreads here!) I really love seeing what everyone is reading - I will read every genre and am always looking for more recommendations! The moody reads I'm hoping to pick up this month are:
  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab ~ This is probably the most hyped/anticipated book of the year - V.E. Schwab has been writing this for 10 years and it's about a girl who makes a deal with the devil to live forever, the problem is no one will remember her, until... I finished this book and I loved it! It's really character focused and has quick short chapters jumping back and forth over 300 years and I just loved the whole story!
  • Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhouse ~ Okay, I hadn't heard of this book before I saw, but the cover was so stunning I had to check it out - it is the start of a trilogy and inspired by pre-Columbian civilizations woven in to a tale of celestial prophecies, political intrigue, and forbidden magic. This book was fantastic! It was a serious Fantasy novel with everything I loved - magic, a great setting, and interesting characters. I highly recommend the audiobook!
  • Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee ~ This is another start of a trilogy - it's a little hard to explain, but the main character Sirscha is training to be the queen's next royal spy, but things change when shaman's attack her best friend - they are whisked away to The Spider King to help control the Dead Woods after Sirscha is revealed to be a soulguide! I finished this and really enjoyed it - I loved the magical systems (and I loved that they were all well explained) and I really enjoyed the storyline. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
  • Piranesi by Susanna Clarke ~ I picked this up because my favourite author, Erin Morgenstern has been sharing this a bunch - according to reviews, the best advice is to not know too much before going in to this, but I know there is a house that's a indefinite labyrinth where an ocean is imprisoned and Piranesi lives to explore the house?! Sounds very interesting.
  • Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez ~ This is a story of revolution, love and magic inspired by Bolivian history and politics. It sounds like the main character is seeking revenge and they have the ability to weave thread out of moonlight! Sounds like their will be marriage and relic hunting and a masked vigilante! Whoa - sounds good.
  • The Girl Who Grew a Galaxy by Cherie Dimaline ~ I've really enjoyed the other two books I read by Cherie which were newer and a little more mainstream available, so I hunted down some of her previous works and they sound amazing. This is about a girl who grows a "galaxy" around her after she killed her grandfather at 7 1/2 years old - I love weird and this feels like it's right in there!
What are you planning on reading this month?!

TWO

Scratch Monthly Mani Kit

I just got my November 2020 Scratch Monthly Mani Kit and as always, it is super cute! This is an easy, affordable subscription that features nail wraps from GoScrachIt that are exclusive to the kit each month and designed by NinaNailedIt!

The Scratch Monthly Mani Kit is $18.00 US monthly with free shipping everywhere! Each month you get an exclusive set of wraps that aren't available for purchase and a little extra mani goodie with it!

This month's subscription came with:
  • Tea Party Nail Wraps
  • pearl accents
I have to say, these nail wraps are easily my favourite nail wraps to use - I have tried quite a few wraps and nothing compares! You can see past reviews and nail looks on Scratch wraps here if you are interested! These ones are really pretty!

THREE

I have been well in to holiday mode for quite some time and got a good head start on all my gifts; but, we always put up a real Christmas tree so I haven't been able to decorate until trees came out! So, last weekend they were finally available and we are all decorated and ready to go for the holidays!

FOUR

It's hard to believe that it's already the end of the month, but here we are and it's time for me to recap my Monthly Makeup Basket for the month:
  • Becca Apres Ski Glow Face Palette - well this is so pretty, but I don't think I reached for it, even though it was in here specifically for me to use! I think I'm still going to hang on to it and hopefully try it again in a Monthly Makeup basket soon!
  • Too Faced Tutti Frutti Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo in Strobeberry - this is pretty, but it's almost too bright of a pink for me, I do prefer something a little less pigmented and more natural looking on my cheeks.
  • Buxom Wanderlust Primer-Infused Blush in Ibiza ~ This is another very pigmented formula, but it wears nicely and can be applied lighter if needed.
  • Jouer Powder Highlighter in Funfetti ~ I got this fun, shimmery highlighter in a Christmas set a couple of years ago and it's pink and iridescent and pretty and I love how it looks on!
  • Rodeo Drive Highlighter by OFRA Cosmetics ~ This is old Favourite from May 2017 and it's really pretty - that classic bold highlighter, but it's good!
I think for my next Monthly Makeup basket I will try using them out for 2 months just because I am wearing far less makeup!

FIVE

I love to do a big declutter of all my makeup and skincare products at the end of the year and this year, I thought I'd get a little head start on it. I got rid of all the skincare products that I got in 2017 (yes I have years worth saved - it's getting better though I'm using much more of my newer stuff. Also, I just got rid of products I wasn't using, broken packaging, etc. Always feels refreshed to clear some stuff out!!

I hope you all have a great weekend!
