Best Makeup Discoveries of 2022 - Top 10 Favourites

I always love rounding up my Favourite products I've discovered every year - this is the  Personally, I include products that I've discovered within the year (not necessarily products that were released in the year, or I don't include every category as I just want to pick the best products I've tried overall!)

The XO and Estee products were received as PR samples - this post contains affiliate links

With that being said, everything I talked about on my Monthly Favourites, I still love; but, when I think of the best products of the year, I think of the ones that have been total standouts or game-changers in my routine! So, that is what I'm going to focus on for this year's Top 10 Favourites!

Here's a closer look at my Top 10 Favourite makeup products:

Best Makeup Discoveries of 2022 - Top 10 Favourites

Estee Lauder  Futurist Futurist Aqua Brilliance Watery Glow Primer ~ $54.00 CAN. A lightweight primer that triples skin‘s moisture for a plumped and glowing look and can be worn alone or under foundation.

This has been a great primer ever since my makeup favs last January - I love a plumped and glowy base and I'm impressed with this! It's not like a pore smoothing primer, so it just just glides on and I find that everything sits so nicely on top of this and it just adds a healthy glow to the skin! I have also used this alone as I'm not always wearing face makeup and I like it - it's just adds a super nice finish to the skin and it's compatible with SPF underneath and any products I've tried overtop!

ColourPop Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer in Light 8N ~ $20.91 CAN. A hydrating, oil-free tinted moisturizer with lightweight coverage that evens skintone and leaves your skin looking fresh and healthy. formulated with hyaluronic acid (aka ha) and coconut water to support skin hydration without adding oil, this tinted moisturizer works for all skin types and makeup styles - just customize your routine to create your own look!

You can see from the picture how much I've enjoyed this tinted moisturizer - I really like it! It's nice and light and just smooths out the skin tone while offering a light coverage - I really like it applied with a brush best, but it works well with fingers or a sponge as well! This is a perfect colour match for me as well. It's got a dewy finish and I set it with a powder so it settles well and drys down, but it wears well and looks nice on!

ELF Camo CC Cream in 210 Light Neutral ~ $18.00 CAN. A medium-to-full coverage color correcting foundation with SPF 30 protection.

I'm loving this formula - it's super lightweight and wears like my tinted moisturizer (this NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil) but with a little more coverage and it's lovely. I actually mix this with the ColourPop for the perfect light-medium coverage, but I love both on their own as well. I prefer the application of this with a sponge, it can look a touch streaky with a brush and sets down well so it wears all day and looks great on the skin - super natural finish!

Cheekbone Unify Multi-Pencil in 02 Fair ~ $24.00 CAN. A lightweight shade-correcting pigment crafted to blend perfectly with your skin tone. This multitasking pencil can be used as a facial highlighter, for contour sculpting, full-face application, as a priming base for eyeshadow, and more.

Again, you can see from the picture how much I've used this product! This truly became a standout on my trips and over the Summer - they offer a good amount of coverage, work really well on their own and they can stand up to humidity so well! This is a great formula, it's solid but blends out nicely and offers good coverage without being cakey. The wear time in particular over blemishes in the heat and humidity was what made it a standout to me - this just lasted longer and didn't budge even in those conditions! Perfect for Summer! I find it best with a minimal base making it perfect for light or no makeup-makeup days!

XO Facecare Space Coverage Concealer in Fair Beige ~ $32.00 CAN. Just cover a space, not your whole face. Conceal and Reveal! Solid coverage on a space or spot with a natural satin finish. Under eye, nose crease, pimple or spot. Space Coverage conceals the space to lets your real skin take centre stage. Filled with skin loving shea, energizing caffeine and spot reducing Niacinamide. Apply with the plush doe tip in dots and blend with fingers. Best results on moisturized skin.

I had a feeling that I was going to love this concealer when I heard XO Facecare was starting to make makeup products - they are one of my favourite skincare brands, so naturally when Annie created skin focused makeup, it was good. This is a full coverage concealer that you just need a little bit of. It's got great ingredients, great under eye coverage and doesn't crease! You apply a little bit under the eye and over blemishes - I find this best blended out with a finger under the eye and lightly set with banana powder. It's beautiful!

Maybelline SuperStay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipstick in Unrivaled ~ $18.99 CAN. SuperStay Vinyl Ink delivers up to 16 hours of wear. This no budge liquid lipstick shakes up the laws of longwear with high impact vinyl color that stays all day. Formula enriched with Vitamin E and aloe gives a comfortable feel. Simply shake, swipe and go.

Okay, it's been a while since I've loved a lip formula this much - it's actually pretty groundbreaking in terms of formula, wear time and finish! It's a long-wear, budge proof lipstick with a shiny vinyl finish. They are mostly deep shades and truly what a great formula for a dark lipstick that you don't want to go anywhere. I'm talking no transfer for eating, drinking and gentle kissing! I found the formula needs to set for 5 to 10 minutes before being fully smudge-proof. This is a little sticky, but seriously wore for a whole night Christmas party and it wore amazing all night long!

Jaclyn Cosmetics Pout Drip Hydrating Lip Oil in Petal Drip ~ $20.00 US. It’s time for something juicy. Jaclyn Hill’s Pout Drip Hydrating Oil glides on easily for a voluptuous look that’s sheer, high-shine and super glossy. Its cushiony formula is boosted with lip-loving antioxidants and emollients so lips appear smoother and ready for summer.

This is what I would call a mix between an oil and a gloss - I have some oils that just absorb right away and make the lips really hydrated the lips and thats it; but, yhis one has a really pretty sheen and gloss that lasts for a while on the lips. It's perfect for every day wear, but I've also worn it to a wedding and anniversary night out and it's easily been my go-to shade! I love it on it's own, but over top and paired with other lip products, it's also gorgeous!

Adrienne Furrie Cream Blush in Colour Jam ~ $29.00 CAN. The AF makeup artist secret for a natural, subtle flush of healthy colour on your cheek or a subtly sculpted cheek bone is cream blush. Don’t be intimidated, these blushes are simple to apply with your Foundation Brush (or your fingers!) and unlike powder blush they melt right into your skin.

Adrienne Furrie is a Calgary makeup artist brand that I recently discovered at the end of last year - I'm excited to try more from the brand and I'm happy with the products I've tried so far. I'm such a fan of cream blushes now, and this is a great formula - I apply it with a duofibre brush and just dab it on to the cheeks. This colour sheers out, but adds a nice pop of colour to the cheeks with the perfect amount of flush! Honestly, if you like the "cold girl" look that's popular right now, this is the perfect shade!

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara - Waterproof ~ $4.99 CAN. Royal sister is Now Waterproof! Lash Princess False Lash Waterproof gives you voluminous false lash effects of the original in a new waterproof formula! The conic shape fiber brush provides lashes with dramatic volume and sculpted length.

This has been my only used waterproof mascara since I tried it last year for the first time and it's the only one I will use now!  It's super affordable and makes my lashes full and fluffy (exactly what I'm looking for and something I never find in a waterproof formula)! But really, using this over the Summer in hot weather, at Summer weddings, near the water, this is simply the best I've used! It doesn't smudge, lasts all night and removes pretty well with an oil or balm cleanser.

ColourPop The Mandalorian Shadow Palette ~ $22.31 CAN. Our exclusive The Mandalorian palette is coming in hot! Straight from Mandalore, this 9-pan palette features our signature super pigmented Pressed Powders to create the perfect smokey eye! Rich in saturated neutrals and earth toned shades with buttery matte, matte with sparkle, and shimmering molten metallic finishes, this super wearable palette is out of this world.

The ColourPop shadow formula is pretty consistently good (more so in these collab palettes), but honestly the Star Wars collections seem to be an especially great formula. These shadows are a little darker and not typically what I would reach for, but damn the looks with this palette are so good! The mattes blend well, the shimmers pop and they are great! It's really different from what I normally reached for, but loved all the looks! So pretty!

Best Makeup Discoveries of 2022 - Top 10 Favourites

I created a makeup look using most of my Yearly Favourites year - I used the Estee Lauder primer, and I combined both the ColourPop Tinted Moisturizer and ELF CC Camo Cream as the base! Then I applied the XO Treatment Concealer under my eyes, the Adrienne Furrie blush on the cheeks, and the Jaclyn Cosmetics Lip Oil on the lips. I finished the look with the Essence Waterproof Mascara on the eyes! I love this look (as I should, it's with my favourites, and it's basically been my go-to easy look for the year!)

What was your favourite makeup product of the year?!

  1. Do you think the Maybelline lipstick would do well with mask wearing? I am trying to get back into makeup for work, but I still mask so I mostly wear either clear glosses or matte longwear liquid lipsticks.

    1. I would probably wait 5 minutes to put it on, but I think so - I was eating pizza and having drinks and it didn't budge on a glass or anything. They are solid, but stay tacky for a few minutes before they set!
