I purchased these products on my own
Sydney Grace is a sister owned business in California - they are best known for their eye shadow formulas, but they are also have loose pigments and glitters, setting powders, highlighters and lip creams!
This was a brand on my "To-Try" List for 2021 and I was very impressed with their eye shadow formulas, so I'm excited to see what else they come out with. In the mean time, I picked up a couple of single shadow products for a very purple look:
Sydney Grace Temptalia Dear Reader - Eyeshadow ~ $6.25 US. Dear Reader is a lavender with a slight cool tone and metallic finish.
This was one of the shadows that Temptalia was considering for use in the palettes she was creating with Sydney Grace - she ultimately picked another shade, but this one was so loved by fans on her instagram, that Sydney Grace agreed to release it as a single shadow and was aptly named "Dear Reader as a result".
This is a gorgeous lavender with a beautiful silvery metallic finish - it looks so shimmery and bold on the eye (especially when applied with finger tips), and really pops over the cream purple shadow!
Again, the Sydney Grace shimmer formula is a stand out - this looks great on the eyes, is well pigmented and wears nicely all day!
Sydney Grace Flamethrower - Cream Eyeshadow ~ $15.00 US. Raspberry, Copper, and Gold Shift. These shadows are made to dry down to a smudge proof finish, they are not waterproof but they will last all day on the lids.
I had heard such good things about the Cream Shadow formula and I've been loving multichromes, so this was a must have for me to try! There regular cream shadows are $8, but they also offer 4 shades of multichrome cream shadows for a little bit more! I think Indie brands excel in the multichrome area, so I really wanted to try this.
This is described as having a raspberry, copper and gold shift - I actually think it goes even deeper than that, towards a plum. The shift is lovely and a little does go a long way with the formula! Sydney Grace's suggestions to apply are: put a dab on the back of your hand or makeup palette and use a flat (not dense) lid brush, a fluffy brush, or your finger and brush onto the lids and use the tip of the brush to buff it in.
I thought this went on a little darker than anticipated - it was very much like a deep purple on the eye! I also could have blended it better, or it could have benefited from a similar shadow buffed around the edges - it dried down, so it didn't budge much after that, and the line looks a little harsh with this look. I will just have to play with it more next time!
Here is a look at both shadows on the eye - I applied Flamethrower as the base shadow with a brush, so that is the deep purple around the outer corner and edges. Then, I applied Dear Reader with a finger to the middle of the lid, which is the pop of glittery purple!
Overall, I like the shadows - I love Dear Reader, it looks amazing on the eye and the formula is pigmented and smooth. I need to play with the cream formula a little bit more and just get used to brushes and how to buff it out a little. But, both are very pretty!
Have you tried Sydney Grace yet?
