The past few ELF releases have included some really fun glowy products and I was excited to give them a try!
I know some people don't love the new releases since they are attempting to "dupe" higher end products; but, I'm fine with it - I think affordable options should be available, and those that want to spend $42 on a glowy blush wand are still able to! There is a market for all of it!
ELF Suntouchable Whoa Glow SPF ~ $14.00 US. A lightweight, broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen that doubles as a makeup primer and leaves skin with a glowing radiance.
I have to start by saying that this SPF is not available in Canada - this has not yet been approved sadly, but I was able to pick this up on a recent trip to the States and I did want to include it because my audience isn't only Canadian!
This is a chemical SPF 30 that can also double as a primer, or worn alone leaves a shimmery glow on the face - it has a hint of sheer peach shimmer for a natural, radiant glow.
I did actually think this was on the pricier side for an ELF product, plus it's a super big bottle - I think for the size/price, it would have been nice to see an SPF 50. For me, SPF 30 isn't enough if I'm planning on being outside for the day - I'm going to use this on days I'm inside more often.
I do like the tint and the glow - it would also be nice if this came in a few shade options. I typically apply three fingers worth of sunscreen and I thought it looked a hint too shiny with that much on.
For me, this was just okay - I think this would be best applied a little bit like a primer, but then paired with another SPF for the proper level of protection.
ELF Cosmetics Halo Glow Liquid Filter in 3 Light/Medium ~ $18.00 CAN. A multi-purpose, liquid glow booster infused with skin-loving ingredients to give your complexion a soft-focus social filter effect IRL.
This is a multi-use product, so you can use the liquid filter either alone for just an all over boost and glow, under makeup as a primer/glow from within look, mixed with foundation for an added glow, or on top of makeup as a liquid highlighter.
This was a bit of a spoiler, but this made my March 2023 Monthly Favourites, so I do really like it! Personally, I prefer to put this on under my foundation - best under a tinted moisturizer so that it adds a little glow from within look. It's glowy without being shimmery!
The ELF Halo Glow in Light Medium is swatched on the top, then below I have swatched two comparable products underneath - below are the Auric Glow Lust Radiant Luminizer in Selenite (light with a bit more metallic finish) and the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in 2 Fair (same shade but slightly more shimmery). I do like all of these products, but this one is by far more affordable with less shimmer and just a nice added glow!
ELF Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand in Magic Hour ~ $12.00 CAN. A glowy liquid blush wand with a cushion-tip applicator to give cheeks a pop of radiant color.
This is a liquid blush wand for a radiant finish - these new blush releases come in four shades, one for light skin, two for medium and one for dark. I picked up the shade magic hour that is described as "bronze gold for fair/tan" and I wanted to make sure that while I'm picking up new blushes, I'm trying shades that are unique to my collection!
These are clearly jumping on the cushion makeup trend and I'm not mad about it - these are meant to be easy to use with the tip (I wouldn't try blending with any of these tips as it will put too much product on the face), but apply and then blend out with fingers or brush! These are buildable and give a nice luminous, flushed finish and also has 2% squalane for a little skin love in there too!
Here is a look at the Blush Glow Wand in Magic Hour swatched on me - this is actually a gorgeous shade, with a shimmery finish.
I do think these blended out pretty good - I tend to find liquid blushes a tad patchy, but the shimmer and glow does help it not look uneven on the skin! Love the finish and it's a good little blush.
This is just like the blush formula, but in a highlighter! So, this is an easy-to-use highlighter wand with a cushion-tip applicator to give the skin a radiant, lit-from-within glow. It is a liquid highlighter that is meant to be a buildable formula that effortlessly blends into skin! Also, it's infused with skin-loving 2% squalane!
The highlighter shades come in three shades meant for light, medium and deep - I picked the lightest shade, Champagne Campaign and it's described as "champagne pearl for fair/tan" and it's a really pretty shade!
Here is a look at the ELF Halo Glow Highlighter in Champagne Campaign swatched on me - this is a light shade and the liquid formula is actually nice and subtle when it's on the cheeks!
I think this applies really nicely - again, I will just dot this on, and then blend in with a finger or brush as opposed to trying to blend in with the cushion itself. The applicator is fine and it blends in well!
E.L.F. Lip Lacquer in Black Cherry ~ $4.00 CAN. A vitamin-enriched lip gloss that delivers a sheer wash of color and high-octane shine.
This is a really gorgeous lip gloss that features an ultra-shine finish without the sticky feel - it uses a conditioning, vitamin-infused formula, so that your lips will feel pillowy soft and hydrated! These can be worn alone for a subtle hint of color, or layered over lipstick for a night-ready look.
If I'm being honest, this wasn't a product I was sure that I was going to love, but picked up this shade because it was only $4 and I've read some rave reviews! But, honestly - I love this! This wore similar to a gloss, but without being sticky and leaving a great shiny finish! Also, I love the shade - I think that was compared to the Clinique Black Honey shade that is supposed to be universally flattering! I put it on most mornings now just to give a basic work look a little more life. (And spoiler alert, this made my May Monthly Favourites!)
Here is a look at the Black Cherry Lip Lacquer swatched on my arm - this gorgeous deep cherry shade is super pretty, and it does swatch pretty deep, but I think the colour sheers out on the lips, making it nice and wearable!
ELF Lash 'N Roll Mascara ~ $6.00 CAN. A mega-curling mascara with a unique double-sided and curved silicone brush to lift and separate lashes for an eye-opening effect.
I'm always up for trying new, affordable mascara, so I was excited to try this one out - it looks like it's trying to dupe the Benefit Roller Lash and I liked that mascara (liked, didn't love - I prefer a full, voluminous look and don't always need a curled finish).
This mascara featured a double-sided and curved silicone brush that works to separate, lift and curl each last to give you maximum curl and lift. It is a smudge and flake-resistant formula that is also vegan and cruelty-free. All good for me.
Here is a look at the curled wand - it does have two different sides, one with shorter bristles and one with longer bristles. I don't always love a silicone brush, as I prefer the natural bristle texture.
Now this did do the job it intended with separating and lifting each lash - because of that, personally I like to combine it with another mascara so that I also get a fuller look along with the lift and curl!
Here is the completed look with all the products - I've got the Whoa Glow SPF as the base, the Halo Liquid Filter under my tinted moisturizer, then I have the Halo Glow Blush on the cheeks and the Halo Glow Highlighter on the cheekbones! I finished the look with the Black Cherry Lip Lacquer on the lips and the Lash 'N Roll on the lashes!
Overall, all of these products are good - the best to me are the Liquid Filter and the Lip Lacquer! The Halo Glow Blush and Highlighter wands are really pretty - I like the finish and think I will get a lot of use out of it. The SPF is good, just a little too shiny for my preference ad the mascara is good, it just needs to be combined for my desired finished look!
What from ELF has caught your eye lately?! There is a Whoa Glow setting spray and I'm going to need that to be available in Canada asap!
