November 2016 Topbox - Unboxing and Review

TopBox is a Canadian Beauty Box Subscription - for $12 CDN a month with free shipping, you will receive 4 deluxe sample size or full size products. You fill out a beauty profile and generally receive products based on what you have identified in the profile. Also, every month you have the option to wish for a "prive" box, which is a box that focuses on one brand or product for the whole box.

Each month comes with a couple variations, so you may not receive exactly the same products as me, but generally 1 or 2 are the same throughout all the bags.

TopBox is a Canadian company and only ships to Canada. There is usually a month or two waitlist for this subscription.

For November, I requested a regular Topbox - here is a look at what I received:

Here is a look at the products I received this month:

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara ~ sample size 4 ml for $9.74 (full size is 11.5 ml for $28.00). Inspired by Smashbox's on-set technique of layering fiber mascara over volumizing mascara for the biggest, longest lashes on camera, Full Exposure Mascara creates a 104% increase in lash volume for scene-stealing lashes at every angle without smudging, clumping, or flaking.

This mascara is fine. I have used it before. I am a little weirded out by the packaging - the front of mine seems oddly worn and the back the whole colour and half the writing is worn off. Just seems weird to me.

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in "Dope Taupe" ~ full size $10.00. These unique lacquers contain China Clay as a nail hardener, the same material that gives porcelain its shiny finish.

This is a nice colour - I do like it. I find I either receive the same neutral colours or a very unwearable green or blue from Topbox - there is no inbetween. Anyways, this is from the Fall 2016 collection, so I am happy that it is a new shade.

Bella Aura Antioxidant Booster ~ sample size 10 ml for $41.66 (full size is 30 ml for $125.00). Our Multi-Functional Booster is a powerful detox to protect against the negative environmental elements that your skin comes in contact with throughout the day.  It contains our Kamilah blend combined with breakthrough technology of the active Swiss botanical ingredients.

This is likely the most expensive sample that Topbox has ever sent out - I am excited as I like using boosters as part of my routine so this will be good!

Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave In Conditioner ~ sample size 110 g for $4.03 (full size is 300 g for $10.99). Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave-In Conditioner designed to naturally moisturize the strands, treat and leave the hair nourished and full of life. Its formula counts with the Bamboo Sprout, responsible to provide all the strength and growth that your hair needs, leaving it treated, nourished and with a glossy shine.

We have received multiple Novex products in recent Topboxes - this is the first leave-in conditioner. I will not use a leave-in conditoner at all, so I was be passing on this product.

Topbox came with 4 products this month (1 full size) with a total value of $65.43! This is probably the highest value Topbox I have ever received. I am still not thrilled with all of the products I have received - the most exciting thing is the booster.

I have actually decided to cancel my Topbox - I just have not been thrilled with the products that they have been sending. While it is only $12 a month (and I have been getting it for almost 2 years), I would rather put this towards another subscription or buying my own makeup I like!

I would never not recommend Topbox - it is still a good subscription boxes for Canadians and it is very affordable! If you are interested, you can view my past Topbox reviews here

  1. I got the same mascara and nail polish, which I actually really like. I also got a sample size 8hr cream by Elizabeth Arden and a body butter from Bliss. I understand why you want to unsubscribe from Topbox - I am also not that excited by the products they send. I haven't been with them that long though, only about 3 months. But then there was that one month they gave the free unilever box which was cool. Still, like you said, it would be nice to save that money and put toward buying makeup that I like.

    1. Ya, I have been subscribed for almost 2 years so I think I'm a little worn out of samples in general! Gotta work my way through the stash!

  2. If I received this box I would be happy about the nail polish and the mascara - minus the fact that yours looks worn out. Did you contact them about that? Maybe you can get another product as a replacement.

    1. Ya, I don't hate this bag - I just think after being subscribed for 2 years, nothing really excites me anymore! I think it will be good to cancel and use up my stash before I consider re-subscribing!
I do think I will contact them about the mascara - I have never had a concern with a sample before now!

  3. I like the nail polish colour you got, better than what I received lol. Mine is like a weird silver gray, with red and purple undertones. So hard to describe. I'm considering cancelling my subscription too. I was just putting away some stuff and saw the huge stash that is continuing to grow. I just keep putting things away and forgetting about them, it's such a waste!

    1. Ya - I don't mind the colour I just have so many similar! I guess that's what you get when you subscribe to subscription boxes for a long time! It's crazy looking at the stash and realizing how much stuff you have!
