This subscription was purchased by me
In my post about Volume 1, I did speak to the experience with the subscription thus far, so I won't get in to lengths about it again; but, this did have some set backs. Volume 2 originally renewed in February 2019 and was supposed to ship that month. Unfortunately, Storybook Cosmetics ran in to some issues at the lab and I believe they switched labs to reformulate the shadows that weren't working in the original lab.
So, while there have been a few hiccups, I still really like to support Storybook Cosmetics - I love the concepts behind their palettes and makeup and even though they've really expanded over the past 2 years, they are still maintaining a family run operation. So, sometimes things are released slower; but, honestly, with how crazy makeup releases have become lately, it really makes me appreciate all the thought, detail, and effort that goes in to a product like the ones Storybook Cosmetics comes out with!
So, the Storybook Cosmetics Book Club is a subscription based on classic books in a mini eyeshadow palette with 3 shadows and a liquid lipstick in each!
These little palettes are to-die-for adorable and the detail is amazing - they truly look like the classic novel and everything even done to the font is incredible. Also, as a bonus for Volume 2, Storybook included a mini magnifying glass brush to tie-in to the Sherlock Holmes theme and it's adorable.
The subscription was initially supposed to be a monthly subscription; however, with some of the hiccups, they haven't quite determined when it will return to a monthly subscription - I think the aim is for early 2020. I appreciate that they are trying to be conscious to their subscribers and not charge too early until Volume 3 palettes are ready (which is going to be a Jane Eyre theme if you're interested). Honestly, I'm staying subscribed, but I would be okay with this being a bi-monthly or quarterly subscription too - I'm appreciating the time and effort that go in to these beautiful palettes and would never want them to feel rushed!
Storybook Cosmetics Book Club Subscription Volume 2 - Sherlock Holmes ~ $24.99 US + $8.50 shipping to Canada. Each month you will receive a full size lipstick and 3 full size eyeshadows in a limited, collector’s edition mini Storybook Palette with a custom matching bookmark.
The detail on the palette are amazing - I love the shadow shades that they've included and the little extra brush is adorable (plus it's actually a magnifying glass!) Also, I love the little addition of the book mark too - it just fits the bookish theme of this!
And here are the products swatched:
Baker Street ~ a true nude liqiud lipstick
Watson ~ a shimmery champagne gold
Sherlock ~ a coral matte
Moriarty ~ a teal green matte
The quality of these shadows were really great! Watson is a smooth, buttery shimmer that applied really nicely and the mattes, while a little dry applied really nicely and blended like a dream.
The liquid lipstick was really nice too - I tend to shy away from true nudes; but, I thought this one was flattering on my skin tone and the brand said they had all skin tones in mind when formulating this shade. It is a liquid lipstick formula, so it does dry down, but I still like liquid lipsticks, so I didn't mind this. But, it would be fun down the road if they switched in a gloss formula too for some subscriptions!
Again, here is the full face with the products - I only used this palette on the eyes (and love how these shadows combine), plus I have Baker Street on the lips. I think these are all very complimentary colours and it felt really cohesive altogether!
For this eye look, I used Sherlock all through the crease and Moriarty in the outer corner of the eye. I lightly cut the crease and applied Watson to the lid and inner corner, gently patting the champagne and teal shades together in the centre of the lid! I love these shadows together and I was very happy with this eye look!
And, here is Baker Street on the lips - you can see that it dries down, but it was still fine for me to wear and I did enjoy the shade!
Overall, despite some of the set-backs, I'm still really happy to support Storybook Cosmetics. I love the brands ideas and the book structure appeals to the bookworm in me - it perfectly combines my love of reading and makeup! And, I will continue to subscribe to the Book Club, because I also love subscriptions!
Have you tried anything from Storybook Cosmetics yet?!
