Five on Friday - October 10, 2019

Happy Friday everyone! I feel like this week flew by! I can't believe it's the weekend already and I'm looking forward to the long weekend - Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

It's time for a look at my Fall 2019 Reading List! I always like to pick a variety of books to read over the season, although I do think these books are all a little darker and intense if I'm not mistaken - and I do still think there is a good mix of genres!

I always track my books on GoodReads, so if you have GoodReads and want to connect - you can find me here! I really love seeing what everyone is reading and I always find recommendations for myself from your reading lists! What I'm planning on reading this Fall is:
  • The Testaments by Margaret Atwood ~ if this isn't the most anticipated book of Fall, I'm not sure what is! Margaret Atwood released The Handmaid's Tale in 1985, and this is the followup to that novel! Set 15 years after the original novel, the book contains three testaments from three women with very different lives in Gilead. This is top of my list!
  • Wilder Girls by Rory Power ~ sometimes I'm really drawn to a book by the cover, and this was one I totally picked up originally based on the look (plus, the story sounded great after I checked it out). This story is described as a "feminist Lord of the Flies" and the power of friendship after a group of girls is quarantined and a friend goes missing. Sounds very interesting!
  • House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig ~ the reviews of this book have it so high on my reading list and it is a gorgeous book (I even picked up a signed copy from Owl Crate). This is basically described as a fairytale, horror, murder mystery spin on the fable of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. The family lives in a manor by the sea, and Annaleigh is trying to discover why all of her sisters are dying.
  • The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin ~ this book probes the line between destiny and choice after a set of four siblings sneak off to hear their fortunes from a travelling psychic who can tell anyone the day they will die. This book follows them over the next 5 decades.
  • Rebel by Marie Lu ~ this is the 4th book in the Legend series (which I read all of earlier this year and loved), so this book is a decade after Champion and follows Day's younger brother Eden and his story living in his brother's shadow. This book was just released and I couldn't wait to read it!
  • In My Own Moccasins: A Memoir of Resilience by Helen Knott ~ Helen's memoir is an account of addiction, intergenerational trauma and wounds caused by sexual violence, but it's also an account of redemption, sisterhood and the power of ceremony and family. I personally work so closely with stories like this every day, I have to educate myself to figure out how I can work better. I can't wait to read this.
What's on your Fall Reading List?!

TWO

I hope you guys were following along on Instagram last week when we were having a blast in Disneyland! (If you missed it I have lots of pictures and a couple of highlights too!) It was actually surprisingly easier to bring a toddler to Disney than I thought and we really enjoyed ourselves! Also, all the new Star Wars stuff was amazing and the Halloween decorations and Oogie Boogie Bash was fantastic! We had a really great week!

THREE

And, I only brought home this tea set and a couple of Christmas ornaments, so I'm excited to try these! Also, I went a little crazy at CVS down there, but I will share that all on my Monthly Haul later this month!

FOUR

So, this happened this week - we moved Elliott from a crib to a big boy toddler bed. How cute is this little car bed?! And, Elliott loves this - he actually napped in the bed since we've had it (and he hasn't napped at home in months!) He hasn't tried to get out of this and he even said he has to go "all by himself".

FIVE

Here are my past 4 palettes of the week - they are all keepers and I like all these palettes! I'm still picking a new palette to use each week, to make sure I still love it and am using all my palettes! I can mix and match it with anything, but it's just to use it in any way!

The Wet n Wild Rose in the Air is a good little staple palette - you can see my swatches and look here! Then, I used the L'Oreal Paradise Enchanted and it's a good palette, not great, but it's perfect for everyday work looks for me - you can see swatches and a look here! Then I used the lovely ColourPop Orange You Glad? palette - this just made my September Monthly Favourites and you can see swatches and a look here! The Too Faced Tickled Peach is easily one of my most used palettes - it's such a lovely little palette and is perfect for easy looks. You can see swatches and a look here

I hope you all have a great long weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!
