Five on Friday - May 10, 2024 ~ Edmonton Visit, A Short Walk Through A Wide World Book Review, Before The Coffee Gets Cold Book Review, May Most Anticipated Books and Thrift Finds

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a good week - it's been a little crazy here!

ONE

I've been away in Edmonton for the week - it was busy and I didn't have much down time, but I went for a Criminal Justice Symposium for the week and it was great! Plus, the hockey playoffs started while I was the there and the city was a lot of fun!

TWO

A Short Walk Through A Wide World was received as a review copy

Thanks Simon and Schuster for a review copy of A Short Walk Through A Wide World by Douglas Weterbeke! This is a historical fiction that surrounds a girl, Aubry, who starts to die if she stays in on place longer than 3 days or goes back to the same location, so she is constantly travelling the world. I loved the adventure aspect that her being on the move on the time and I liked all the places and glimpses of where Aubry has been and who she connects with. What I needed out of this book was some timelines - some were told in stories to others and I just couldn't figure out the timeline and that being vague was just a little distracting for me! Overall, I enjoyed this! 4 stars.

THREE

Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi was so lovely and touching! It's set in a cafe where patrons are able to time travel (within the rules) and given each circumstances of their lives and those they want to see again or go back to a conversation was really lovely. This followed four different patrons/stories and I found the stories all interesting and unique. I don't always love time travel, so I appreciated how it was handled in this book while really focusing on relationships and dynamics! It makes you appreciate and want to say things in the moment because we can't always go back and be heard. I can't wait to read more in this series. 4.5 stars.

FOUR

I love to keep track of my Most Anticipated Books coming out each month - May has so many good books coming out and I can't wait to read them all!

FIVE

I went thrifting this past weekend and got some really good finds - this little light over shirt, comfy pants and shoes and a really cute pair of shorts!

I hope you all have a good weekend!
