January 2015 - Ipsy Sample Beauty Bag Review

Ipsy is one of the inexpensive beauty bag sample subscriptions. You receive 4-5 deluxe sample size or full size products each month. The cost is $10 US (+ $4.95 shipping to Canada).

Ipsy is generally make-up products with a mix of skin, nail, and hair products based on a beauty profile you complete. There is usually 12-18 products that are selected from each month! You can view your "glam room" online that tells you all the products you will receive each month (I really like to keep it a surprise so I don't check ahead of time!) You also receive a make-up bag each month with your products.

Here is a look at the January 2015 Ipsy Bag:

The makeup bag this month is dual sided so I thought I would show you both sides! The theme for the January Bag is "Fresh Start":
"A kickoff so clean the possibilities are endless. Get ready for a fantastic and flawless 2015."

And here is a closer look at the products I received:
LA Fresh - Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer ~ sample size 15g for $12 (full size is 50g for $40). This highly natural day moisturizer provides ample hydration and helps bring back a fresher & happier looking skin appearance. Made with collagen-producing peptides, super-hydrating hyaluronic acid, natural cucumber, aloe, antioxidant panthenol (Vitamin B), Vitamin C & E and a natural anti-aging botanical complex of maqui berry, licorice root, ginko leaf, grape seed and hickory bark.
This smells like cucumbers - I like it! It goes on nice and light and absorbs quickly! I like the formula too - it's nice that it's free of lots of yucky stuff, is natural and cruelty free!

Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm ~ sample size 7g for $8.40 (full size is 10g for $12). Flavored with Mojito, this lip balm is scientifically blended to restore and replenish. This hydrating lip gel easily integrates for daily maintenance, prevention and treatment of dry, irritated lips. Color and paraben free.
This smells good - I wanted it to be limey and minty smelling, but it's mostly just lime which is fine! This is a nice formula - nice and smooth and not sticky! Lip balm isn't the most exciting thing to get - but I use so much of it, I am fine with getting more!

Manna Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion ~ sample size - approximately $8.33. (I'm not sure if there is a full size of this product, I can only find this sample size available in a few kits so this is just an estimation based on 3 products for $25). Sheer Glo is an incandescent liquid that lights up skin with all over radiance. Mix with foundation or wear alone to provide a luminous glow for all skin types. An especially amazing product for mature or dry skin. Sheer Glo provides a youthful glow and dewy finish. Use on face and/or body and get glowing.
This isn't terrible - but, I don't use shimmer products too often, but it is quite light and not overly shimmery - I think I will be able to use this more as a summertime product!

Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in "Treasure" ~ full size approximately $2.91 (there isn't any individual eyeshadow available on the Pacifica website so this is the estimated value based on an 11 item palette for $32). An incredibly innovative formula that pushes natural makeup and mineral color to new bounds. Rich, lasting, creaseless eye shadows are infused with coconut water for a velvety, cream-like finish.
I'm not going to lie - the last Pacifica eye shadow I received was terrible, so I wasn't overly confident with how this one was going to be. I was wrong - this is great so smooth! And I love the color I received - it is great for every day wear!

Hikari Eye Liner in "Storm" (Slate Grey) ~ full size $13. This is a mechanical slate grey eyeliner pencil. The perfect mechanical eyeliner that you can smudge for a smoky look or use to define your eyes.
I do appreciate a ful size eyeliner in this box - I just have sooo many eyeliners in all colors so I am going to pass this on right now to someone else who can use it quicker than me!

For $10 + shipping, I received 5 items (2 full sized) with a value of $44.64. This box had a decent variety of products - I am super happy with the eyeshadow!

  1. I got that Hikari liner too, and swatched it on my hand. It is awful. I'm as pale as a ghost and it barely showed up. I had to apply a ton of pressure to get any line to show up, I don't think I will end up keeping it because it would take a lot of tugging!

Also the Manna Kadar (I got it in August) doesn't show up on my skin either. I've tried mixing it with foundation, and applying it on its own, and it's like it doesn't exist lol. Maybe you will have better luck with it!

    1. Oh that's too bad that the eyeliner is not good! It's nice to get full-sized items but not if they don't work very well!
I still have to try the face shimmer to see if it works for me!!
The rest of the items were great - the moisturizer is awesome (although a little small!)
