September 2014 Beauty Box 5 - Review and Unboxing

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that costs $12 US per month + $3 shipping to Canada. If you sign up for a longer subscription, you get a lower price per box: $30 quarterly, and $99 a year ( plus $3 shipping per month). 

I signed up for Beauty Box 5 when they had a promotional code for $12 off a year (and before they started charging for shipping!) - so I got a full year for $87. This worked out to $97.60 Canadian with the exchange rate so I only pay $8.14 a month for this subscription.

Shipping was very slow this month - this box shipped on September 8th and didn't arrive until yesterday (October 6)!. I think with quite a few companies shipping was slow so it's not really Beauty Box 5's fault. Here is a look at my September 2014 Beauty Box 5:

This month's theme is "Balancing Act" and is going to be products that balance between trying new trends and taking care of yourself. 


Here are a closer look at the products inside:

Nicka K New York Eyelight Crayon in Violet ~ full size $4.49. Use this as a bold liner or blend or smudge it as a cream eyeshadow! Here is what the violet looks like:

At first look I thought this color was going to be way too bright - but I actually like this color. It's not as bright as it looked and I will use this as a bright bottom liner or try something fun with it!

Sally Hansen Toe Spacers ~ $1.99 for a pair. Toe spacers are pretty straight forward - use during a pedicure to separate your toes. These aren't the most exciting thing to receive in a beauty box but I will use them - time to throw out the old pair and use a new one.

Natural Style by Fubu Deep Conditioner & Co-wash ~ samples $0 (can be ordered for free on the company website - full size 12 oz for $12). Free of parabens and sulphate - this can be used as a co-wash on thick, curly hair - my poor thin hair probably can't handle that, but I will try this as a deep-conditioner. 

My Beauty Spot Nail Polish ~ full size $4.17 (set of 6 for $24.99). This is a decent color - I think it it will be good for toes. It's not really a brand I have heard of - but I will use this. 

Lash Em 3 in 1Eye Bright ~ sample size 0.17 oz for $13.60 (full size 0.5 oz for $40). Makes the skin around your eyes look smoother, brighter, and firmer, plus reduces dark circles + rejuvenate skin. I have just received a few eye creams so I will wait until I'm done using my other ones to try this - I'm sure it will be great! 

So all together I received 5 items, 3 full size, for a total of $24.25. I have to say I wasn't thrilled with most of the products in this box and if I paid full price I would be unhappy. For $8 I still got a good deal and even though I'm not thrilled with everything, I will use all the items in the box.
