Five on Friday - February 28, 2020

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - mine's been a little rough! I started the week a tiny bit hungover and then that grew to me getting sick (which was terrible timing as I have a tooooonnnn to do at work, but I certainly needed a day to lay on the couch at home - I just got that when I wasn't feeling very well!

I  received my February Owlcrate subscription and this month's theme is "A Power Within". Each month the book Owlcrate includes is signed by the author and comes with a note from the author as well - they often have special edition covers just for the box, and they seem to include a lot of exclusive items just for Owlcrate, which is so fun!

This month the items included in the box are:
  • All The Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace ~ described as a thrilling fantasy set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with a song a magic is a choice. This came with a unique cover for owlcrate (which I love the colours they chose), plus it's signed and came with a note from the author. I've actually heard really good things about this book, I just thought the name was a little weird so it threw me off!
  • Twin Metal Bookmark Rulers ~ this is a BFF set of pretty metal bookmarks designed by Hey Atlas Creative and inspired by Truthwitch (I'm not going to lie I've never heard of this book but these are cool).
  • Playing Cards ~ This set of cards is inspired by Throne of Glass and used multiple artists for the card designs. I also don't know this series, but the cards themselves are so pretty and even have a shimmery purple edge to them!
  • Screen Cleaning Cloth ~ This is a double sided cloth that features a beautiful drawing on one side and this beautiful quote by Leaf and Lore. This is inspired by Wicked Saints (again, another fandom that I'm not familiar with, but a useful item for sure!)
  • Bento Box ~ This is a actually a really cool item to receive in the box - I love getting useful items, that are more subtle in their fandoms as I'm not familiar with all of them. This does say Owlcrate on in an alphabet from Mistborn. This was certainly a hit or a miss item, but I really like it and will use it!
  • Enamel Keychain ~ This is designed by Blooming Library and it says Brakebills on it which is inspired by The Magicians (if you've ever seen my Goodreads, you know I actually dislike this series very much - it's actually the series that made me decide to give up reading a whole book/series if I dislike them), so I won't be rocking this keychain!
  • Enamel Pin ~ Each month Owlcrate includes a pin inspired by the Monthly Book. This month's pin That's Lovely Dear and it's inspired by some of the favourite elements of the cover of the book.
  • Chain of Gold Sneak Peek ~ this is a pretty hyped book by Cassandra Clare that isn't released until March, so this is a fun little addition to the palette!
If you are interested in signing up, Owlcrate is $29.99 US per month, plus shipping ($7.99 to the US, $9.99 to Canada, and $19.99 worldwide). I do have a referral code here if you are interested: https://www.owlcrate.com/refer/Renee-ZNLXHQYU

I know that this is a little expensive with conversion, but I'm a bookworm and I've really been loving the products they send and love some of the exclusive items they include. I did order a 3 month subscription as a birthday gift to myself, but I'm not really ready to give up this subscription just yet, but I will probably just subscribe on a monthly basis as I see how they sound to me!

TWO

Here's a little peek at the reason why I had a tiny hangover Monday morning - Mitch and I went to a Harry Potter Beer Fest on Sunday night at Vagabond! We had our Tarot cards read, did a few competitions, and had a few too many beers! But, it was lots of fun!

THREE

After we had a few beers, I finally got to try Village Ice Cream and it was so good! It was really delicious ice cream and my husband ended up buying 3 pints of Earl Grey because he said it's the best ice cream he's ever had! (Confirmed the next morning that it was just as good!)

FOUR

If you were wondering where we got our adorable Harry Potter shirts - I got them at TeeTurtle! I ended up getting them for the whole family - Mitch gets Gryffindor, Damian gets Hufflepuff, I get Slytherin, and Elliott gets Ravenclaw. (The only thing is, shipping from here takes over a month, so order with enough time - these arrived the day before I needed them!)

FIVE

Time for a monthly declutter! This one actually has quite a few things - I am passing on the Wander Beauty palette, lash serum, lip gloss, and glow stix that I got in my recent Tribe Beauty box. I also am passing on a couple of new palettes - the Physician's Formula Rose All Play palette and Catrice x Eman blush palette (both were decent, just the formula wasn't the best for me with the eyeshadows and the blushes were pretty, just too pigmented to me). Plus, a couple of lip products that I've been saving for a while and lashes that aren't for me!

I hope you all have a great weekend!
