December 2015 Birchbox Canada Review and Unboxing

This post contains referral links

Birchbox is the original sample beauty box and has been in the U.S.A. and earlier this year it opened a Canadian service. It is $10 a month + $4.95 shipping to Canada (you can save money by signing up for a year for $100 + shipping costs). Each month you receive 5 sample (or full size) products based on a beauty profile you complete.

Birchbox Canada describes itself as:
"Five personalized beauty samples delivered right to your door each month. It’s the best way to find the products you’ll love."

(It should be noted that if you see the U.S. Birchbox - Canadians receive different products.) I originally signed up at the start of the year, but cancelled in June. I wasn't thrilled with all the products they were sending (a lotion and body wash per month did not seem worth it!)

Recently, Birchbox Canada has made some changes - new products and new monthly features - curated boxes and sample choice. In addition, they started offering all the special boxes that American subscribers received.

Here is the December 2015 Birchbox Canada:
December 2015 Birchbox Canada

This subscription always comes in cute different designs every month!

This month's theme is "All Wrapped Up" - here is a look at the goodies I received:

Birchbox always includes a detailed product card explaining what you received:

Here is a closer look at the products inside:

Lord and Berry Twistick ~ full size 0.08 for $31. Behold: this rich, paraben-free pencil from Lord & Berry. By combining the full color of a lipstick, the comfy, nourishing feel of a balm, and the subtle sheen of a gloss, this multitasker saves us major time—and we suddenly have a lot more room in our cabinet.

The color I received is "Shut Up" - I have to say I am really surprised to receive a huge full size item from Birchbox, we so often only get sample sizes! I am pretty much topped up right now on lip products so I think I will pass this on.

Coastal Scents® styleEYES Palette "Formal Eyes" ~ 2 shadows for approx. $4 (full size is 8 shadows for $16). Designed with specific scenarios in mind, these exquisite color collections feature perfectly complementary shades in purse-friendly sizes. The formalEYES palette offers lovely nudes and rosy pinks for a big night out.
The price on this is approximate - I imagine these sample size shadows are smaller than what is included in the palette. These are pretty colors and I like Coastal Scents shadows, so I will happily use this. I think this item was the sample choice for November and I did get the color I selected.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid ~ sample size 0.3 oz for $2.82. A quick primer: ceramides are lipid molecules found naturally in our skin. They work to bind skin cells together, sealing in moisture and blocking out harmful microbes. Unfortunately, as we age, our skin produces fewer ceramides, leading to dryness, loss of firmness, and other signs of aging. Enter Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid. Packed with a small army of ceramides, this derm-developed formula delivers a powerful dose of moisture, plus ingredients that strengthen and smooth skin for the long haul.

I AM SO EXCITED TO TRY THIS! I have had this sitting in my shopping cart for over a month waiting to buy it!! (the full size is a little expensive!) I have heard great things about this and can't wait to try it! If I like this, I will use my points to buy this full size!

Kate Spade "Walk on Air" ~ sample size 0.03 oz for $1.01 (full size is 3.4 oz for $115). Seize the day with this fresh, modern perfume, which celebrates confidence with a bold, floral fragrance. Notes of linden blossom, maiden’s hair fern, soloman’s seal, bergamot, and Tunisian neroli fill out the top notes of this floral bouquet, followed by lily of the valley, magnolia grandiflora, Egyptian jasmine, crinum lily, white iris, and violet leaf. Spritz this memorable scent on in the morning for long-lasting fragrance throughout the day.

I'm not a huge fan of getting perfume samples in subscription boxes, but I like this scent!

Obliphica Professional Seaberry Serum – Fine to Medium ~ sample size 15ml for $10.52. Hair need a little rescuing? This super fruit-fueled serum is here to swoop in and save the day. Antioxidant-rich sea buckthorn berry, the anchor of this lightweight serum, helps to treat and repair dry, damaged hair. Strands are left smooth and shiny without a heavy, greasy feel.

I have received this in a past box (not Birchbox, I believe a hair Quarterly box), so I have a big full size of this. I do really like how it makes my hair feel.

Birchbox came with 5 products (1 full size) and a total value of $49.35. This is a really great value for Birchbox (It is usually around $25, so almost double that!) I am happy with the products I received and I thought there was a good variety (a whole month with no shower gel and lotion!!) This is a much needed improvement for last month's box!
