February 2015 Beauty Box 5 Review

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that costs $12 US per month + $3 shipping to Canada. If you sign up for a longer subscription, you get a lower price per box: $30 quarterly, and $99 a year ( plus $3 shipping per month).

Beauty Box 5 has been referred to as the"starter beauty box" - it does not send many high end products and the value tends to be lower than other boxes, but they have sent out really good products!

*As of late, Beauty Box 5's boxes have been very up and down - they have had some great products; however, there have been very low box values and not so good products. I would suggest that you read reviews and see if it is products you like!*

Here is my February 2015 Beauty Box 5:

This box is so colorful! The theme for this month's box is "Hooray!":
When it comes to our year, February might just take the cake - literally! This month we're turning 3 0 yipee! - and we couldn't have done it without you, dear subscriber. So, how to celebrate our birthday? Marvelous makeup and superb skincare, of course! We're so happy you joined the party -now, throw some confetti and dig in!

Beauty Box 5 always comes with a good product card:

I'm excited to see GlamGlow in here (even it is small!) - let's take a closer look at the products inside:

GlamGlow Youth-Mud Tinglexfoliate Treatment ~ sample size .017 oz for $7.60 (full size is 1.7 oz for $76). After a long celebration, your skin needs some TLC! Apply this anti-aging mask for 10 minutes (it tingles while it;s working) then rinse off in circular motions - it doubles as an exfoliant!
I know a lot of people do not value foil samples as anything, but this is an expensive product and I think I can stretch this to get 2-3 uses out of it! I'm really excited to try this product and will take a smaller sample size of a good brand, over some of the bigger samples of brands I'm not fond of!

Absolute New York Lip Balm "Bubblegum" ~ $2.50 (2 for $5). There's so many reasons to cheer for this party-ready balm! Major moisture? Check! Sweet scent? Check! A tiny amount of tint? Check! Cute in your clutch? Check!
This smells good - lipbalm isn't super exciting to receive, but I will certainly use it! I have receives a different scent of this balm in a past Ipsy bag and really liked it!

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in "Vanilla Frosting" ~ full size 22.50. We couldn't ship uoi actual birthday cake, but how about some frosting? Treat yourself to this iridescent mineral shadow!
I'm happy to receive a full size mineral eyeshadow - but I have just received an identical shade in my last FabFitFun box, so I am going to pass this on!

Revlon Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel in "Stormy Night" ~ full size $3.99. Stand out at any soiree and balance the confetti with a bold nail! These supersaturated hues have our hearts when it comes to one-coat coverage and long-lasting wear.
I quite like the color I received - it is a muted purple/grey - I will definitely wear this!

Avon Big Color Eye Pencil ~ full size $3.49. Spend less time getting ready and more time getting down with these pretties - just glide and go!
So everything was looking good and I like the color of this; however, this appears to be a discontinued product! Prior to it being discontinued (in May 2014?) it was highly reviewed. While this isn't a really old product, you expect new products, not discontinued products! I haven't decided if I am going to use this or not!

*In addition to the 5 products, all subscribers got a $20 giftcard, for Beauty Box 5's 3rd birthday, to Your Minerals (good products, 2 came in the last FabFitFun box). I was excited to use it, but they have $14.50 shipping to Canada, which I don't want to pay!*

So, I received 5 products (4 full size) with a total value of "$40.08" - which is a good value. I also like that most of the products are full size.

I am concerned with the discontinued Avon product being discontinued; however, it was not discontinued that long ago - it just feels crappy to receive old products. As I was about to post this, I noticed there were some concerns on other blogs in regards to the GlamGlow - it may be an older product as the ingredients listed are different than those appearing on the Sephora website. It looks like GlamGlow reformulated this product about 1.5 years ago, not to contain parabens and the sample we received still contains parabens meaning it is old. I am trying to look in to if it has an expiry date or not and if it still usable? I assume it is because it is sealed, but again it would have been nice to receive a new sample.

At first glance, I was very excited for this box - the products looked great and it certainly appeared to be an improvement from last month! While some of these products are great, it is disappointing for a second month in a row to receive a discontinued product. I will say, I have really been hoping Beauty Box 5 would improve, but I have already cancelled my year subscription so May 2015 will be my last box.
