Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week!
ONE
I purchased everything in this post
New book series review for you - the Wayward Children series books 1-3 by Seanan McGuire (Be Sure is a bind up of the first 3 books in the series!) If you like weird adventure stories that get a little dark, these novellas series set around children who have traveled to portal worlds is a must read!
Book 1 is Every Heart A Doorway - we meet our main characters at a boarding school for children from portal worlds all waiting to return, but they start dying off - it's a bit of a whodunnit to figure out who is hurting the children. Book 2 is Down Among the Sticks and Bones and it is Jack and Jill's portal story - starts with their sad childhood that leads to them finding the door. They go down to a dark world with a vampire prince and a mad scientist. Book 3 is Beneath the Sugar Sky has us back at the boarding school meeting a mermaid and a daughter of a past student who is dead. They have to travel to a nonsense world to put all the pieces back together!
I like that this series alternates between stories set at the school and origin portal stories so we can see more of the worlds! I can't wait to keep going in the series! I've already ordered the next ones because they are just so good!
TWO
This past weekend we spent a little time at the Calgary Zoo and it was fantastic - the bears were out and about, the otters, the lemurs, and the pallas cats! Also, for us Calgarians that are mourning the loss of Build-a-Bear, the Zoo has a stuffing toy place were the filling is made out of plastic bottles. Elliott picked his favourite cat and got to stuff it himself!
THREE
We also checked out the Big Bounce this past weekend - we got a 3 hour time slot and it gives you access to all the bouncy houses, and 45 minutes on the world's biggest bounce house. It was so much fun, a little crazy, but we all had a blast! There was a big obstacle course, at least 8 bounce houses, a DJ, food trucks - all of it!
FOUR
I took some time off this week for a family hike - we went to Troll Falls in Kananaskis! I haven't been before, it was fantastic! About a 4.5 km hike to 4 different falls and it was decent terrain and very doable for kids! We all loved it - highly recommend!
FIVE
Public Service Announcement - it is PSL season! It started yesterday and me and my friend went immediately to grab one and it was delicious!
I hope you all have a great weekend!
