Five on Saturday - May 21, 2022 ~ One True Loves Book Review, Granary Road, Fantastic Beasts Secrets of Dumbledore, Pedicure, and Heatless Hair Curlers

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you all had a great week! You guys - I'm on my to Italy today!!!! I cannot wait! We planned this trip over two years ago and had to cancel it two times because of covid, and we are finally going! So, I will be gone for two weeks - I actually don't have anything planned for while I'm away (expect a mani post tomorrow) so make sure you follow along on my instagram to see what I'm up to and I will be back to posting when I'm home!

ONE

I purchased everything in this post - this post contains affiliate links

I'm so excited to share another great read - I recently just finished One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins. I'm a huge TJR fan (I loved Daisy Jones and the Six and I've been working my way through all of her past work as well). This is an adult fiction novel (I'm hesitant to call it a romance, because it's kind of a heartbreaking romance!)

Are you a what-iffer? Do you find yourself thinking of the most bizarre or worst case scenarios and thinking about what you would do in them? I'm one of those people, and I found this premise of this booked worked for me (but I can see how it might not work for everyone). This book starts with Emma and her husband being happily in love - unfortunately, he is lost in a helicopter accident and presumed dead. Years later, she is finally ready to move on and fall back in love - just when she is happily engaged, her ex-husband is found and is returning home. Yes, huge impossibility, but for those that like to think of scenarios and figuring out what you would do, this works because it will have your mind racing with the decisions the main character makes (and will have you thinking what would you do in the the same situation!)

I love TJR's characters because they are flawed, they don't always make great decisions, but you feel for them all. Honestly, my heart was broken for every character reading this, but in a way that you were still rooting for them all. I liked the choice, and I also enjoyed the early 2000s references when our character was in high school. Great book - this was a solid 4.5 star read for me!

TWO

This past weekend I took Elliott to Granary Road - we always have a blast there! It's such a big place and you can spend the whole day! Elliott is the perfect age for everything there (but honestly he will love it for years there) and he loved the animals, chickens, cotton candy and all the activities!

THREE

I also finally got to watch Fantastic Beasts Secrets of Dumbledore movie this week (I know it's been out for so long, but I haven't been able to get there yet). I had a night earlier this week with just my older son, Damian so we had a movie night! And, this was okay - not my favourite of the series, but it was still good.

FOUR

I went and treated myself to a pedicure earlier this week when I had a free evening - I wanted to treat myself with a nice massage and a bright new shade for my trip!

FIVE

Have you guys tried heatless hair curlers yet?! I know I'm a little late to the train; but, I finally picked some up.

I tried them for the first time without wet hair because I was scared I was going to end up looking like Shirley Temple, so I just ran a little water and styling cream through my hair and here is how it turned out:

Pretty good! But my hair is garbage at holding a curl, so I think it will last longer if my hair was a little wetter, but so far so good! I will keep trying them out!

I hope you all have a great week (or great two weeks) and I will be back to posting when I'm home from my trip!
