Five on Friday - August 4, 2023 ~ The Seven Year Slip Book Review, July Month of Vegetarian and Pescatarian Food, Fairmont Trip, Thrifting in Invermere, and the Barbie Movie

Happy Friday everyone - I hope you all had a great week! We got back from holidays and then jumped right in a busy week!

I'm always going to be excited to share books I love on here and I've read some great ones this Summer - my next 4.5 star read is The Seven Year Slip by Ashley PostonI've been a big fan of Ashley Poston, but as she's stepped in to adult romance, I've loved her books even more - she's got a really approachable writing style and this built up so well. It is set both in the present day as well as seven years in the past.

This is an adult romance (but I would put this in the tamer department in terms of spice, and I enjoyed the focus on the story and characters more). Our main character finds herself grieving the loss of her Aunt and moving in to her apartment, when the apartment surprises her and brings her back in time 7 years - she meets someone and they have a whirlwind Summer romance, but he's already experienced it, and she is meeting him simultaneously in the past and present. I loved our characters, their story, and their connection! It also had a big focus on food and love the quote of "finding romance in chocolate and love in lemon pie". Really enjoyed this one!

TWO

It's been a year and a half since I went vegetarian and I've been enjoying sharing my veggie meals. I hope that you guys have been enjoying seeing all the recipes and veggie meal ideas! I'm not preachy about going vegetarian, but I do think everyone should reduce their meat consumption, so even if one day a week you want to do meatless Monday, hoping you will find some good suggestions! Also, I'm also going to include some of my eating out meals instead of just cooked for a little more inspiration if you are looking to eat vegetarian while out!

THREE

We spent the week with our whole family in Fairmont - it was wild and crazy and so much fun! The highlight for me was the creek hot springs, shopping with family, kayaking, games and so many great times. We survived 7 of us with 4 kids all together and had a great time!

FOUR

One of my favourite things about going in to Invermere is the thrifting - it's a whole production, the thrift store is open Thurs - Sat, so you line up for opening on Thursday for all the deals! Then there are 5 consignment/thrift shops all in a couple of blocks of each other - it's a few hour affair with a coffee from the bakery and it's so much fun!

FIVE

I finally got to see the Barbie movie - it was great! I know there is mixed reviews; but I loved the message - I loved the anti-patriarchy message, and I loved all the barbies and the casting was amazing! I had a whole Barbie night with my sister-in-law with pink dresses, drinks, champagne and the works.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
