High-end Liquid, Cream and Shimmer Eyeshadow Roundup - Try-ons, Swatches and Thoughts

I've picked up so many new liquid and cream shimmer shadows, that I thought the best way to show them all off is a round-up post! Last week I did a round up of the drugstore shadows that I've tried recently - you can check it out here

All shadows were purchased by me - this post contains affiliate links

And, now it's time for all the high-end shadows, so be prepared for a little steeper prices than last week! Last week's post talked about shadows that were $7 - $20, so this week's lowest priced shadow is $26. I love a little splurge and I tend to use these style of shadows all the time, so it makes it worth it for me (but I keep my standards really high when I'm spending this much on a single shadow!

The formulas I'm comparing this week (in swatched order) are: Haus Laboratories Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powder, Natasha Denona Chroma Crystal Liquid Eyeshadow, Dior Diorshow Liquid Mono, Marc Jacobs See-quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow, Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow, Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow, Lorac Lux Diamond Creme, and Pat McGrath Labs Eyedols Eyeshadow!

I love that they all swatch a little unique - I mentioned in my drugstore shadow post, I like that they all are a little different so I have some variety in the formula and I can use them all for different purposes! (It helps me justify buying 7 eyeshadows for almost $30 each, right?!)

Haus Laboratories Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powder - Liquid Eyeshadow in Rose B*tch ~ $26.00 CAN. This highly pigmented, longwearing liquid eyeshadow amplifies any look. Its blendable, buildable liquid-to-powder formula offers serious color payoff and shade-shifting shimmer, bringing depth, dimension, highlight, or intensity to any look.

I was pretty excited when Lady Gaga announced that she was releasing a beauty brand - I wasn't thrilled with the launch itself (prime day, 3 months in advance of release, amazon only, and in curated sets even though the brand wants you to be an individual). But, I do like Gaga and I do like liquid shimmer eyeshadows, so these seemed like a good mix for me to try! This is said to be fallout-free, smear-proof, and multidimensional.

Can you see the difference between the swatch on my arm to this picture?! Where did the shadow go?! The arm swatch was a much more concentrated application - this is applied to my eye with the with the doefoot applicator and them smudged out with my finger. Honestly, this was as bad as it looks on the eye - it was super liquidy and barely had any shimmer on the eye. It took a long time to dry down and I didn't think it lasted the whole day - it just kind of disappeared and got a little creasy. This was a miss for me and not worth $26 at all.

Natasha Denona Chroma Crystal Liquid Eyeshadow in Sienna ~ $32.00 CAN. A high-quality liquid eyeshadow with next-level sparkling effects.

I love the powder Natasha Denona shadows that I've tried, but this one I was a little nervous about this one because the reviews were really mixed on these shadows! I heard that they weren't very sparkly (note to people complaining - do not try the Haus Laboratories). But, I thought this was a very nice liquid eyeshadow formula - exactly the picture perfect shimmery shadow that I picture when I think of a liquid shimmer shadow!

Here is a look at Sienna on lid - much more glittery than I was expecting! I thought this formula wore really nicely on the eye and it lasted well and looked great all day! Lovely glittery shadow!

Dior Diorshow Liquid Mono in Gold Twinkle ~ $36.00 CAN. The first eyeliner-eyeshadow by Dior with long-lasting wear and buildable colour.

I have such a soft-spot for Dior makeup - it just feels so fancy to me!  This shadow is described as a "glittering magic gold" and I think it's limited edition for the holiday season. This is certainly a little less opaque than the Natasha Denona one, so it would apply really nicely as a topper or as a less dramatic glitter look (it would also be really nice over any other coloured eyeshadow shade!

Here is Gold Twinkle all over the lid - it has much more of a transparent base with just small gold shimmer in it! It's really pretty and I think this will be so beautiful as a topper!

Marc Jacobs Beauty See-quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow in Star Dust ~ $35.00 CAN. A limited-edition, glitter-packed eyeshadow with bold pigment and maximum sparkle in six eye-catching shades.

This is such a stunning eyeshadow - it's so gorgeous! It's described as a "sequin-finish" shadow that uses a special demi-pressed process that allows the pigments to apply more vividly and gives the maximum glitter sparkle! This shadow can either be packed on for an intense glitter or blended on the eyes for a soft wash of sparkle over the eyes.

This shadow formula is a stand-out! The formula is really unique and I've tried multiple shimmer and glitter shadows! It looks amazing on the eyes and I got a ton of compliments when I wore this!

I do wish that this picture was not blurry - here is Star Dust on my eyes. I could swear about how stunning this shadow is and you can see some of the reflect the glitter has in it! Star Dust is described as a Rosy Copper and it's so beautiful!

Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eye Shadow in Ray ~ $38.00 CAN. A weightless, micro-glitter eyeshadow infused with light-reflecting pearls to create high-impact, sparkling eyes.

This is a shadow I picked up because it was so highly reviewed by quite a few people and I had really high expectations for them! They are described as being "buildable from a sheer, crystal-like shimmer to an opaque, prismatic glitter finish" and I thought they went on pretty opaque - I personally applied this with my finger, so maybe if you wanted it a little less subtle glitter. This exceeded my expectations - it is so stunning on and it my Monthly Favourites in November

How stunning is Ray on?! Holy - it is so glittery on the eyes! I absolutely love this shadow and it looked this opaque the whole night (this is applied with a finger and not using a glitter glue!)

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow in Jean ~ $39.00 CAN. A long-lasting cream eyeshadow that features an easy, non-creasing formula.

The shade Jean is described as "sparkling pink champagne" and is supposed to have a shimmer finish - it's got a really nice sheen in the pot. Its supposed to be an easy glide-on high-shine formula. Unfortunately, this one had no shine or shimmer whatsoever on me! I was quite surprised, especially with the sheen in the pot. It does have a nice formula and it's stay on. Maybe I should have picked up a different colour - any one have experience with other colours in this formula?

Here is Jean on my eyes - it's patted on the lid and the inner corner of the eye. It actually looks better in the inner corner of the eye; it is a little more shimmery. It weirdly just didn't have any sheen when it was on my lids.

Lorac Lux Diamond Creme in Satin ~ $29.00 CAN. Brilliant colour and diamond shine that lacquers lids from day to night without worry: crease and smudge-proof.

I was pretty excited when I saw Lorac recently come to Shoppers Drug Mart (why has it taken this long for brands to come to Canada?! Seriously, we are attached to the States - I've been buying Lorac for years in the USA - drives me crazy!) But, now that they are here and they recently released this new Lux Diamond Creme shadows! I've tried their powder shadows and enjoyed them, so I was happy to try this one out.

Apparently this metallic creme is made with 100% certified authentic diamonds milled into a fine, cosmetic-grade dust for superior brilliance. It can also be used as shadow base or a highlighter.

Here is the shadow Satin on my lid and inner corner. I thought this was a creamy formula, but it was metallic pressed shadow. It certainly looked pretty and had a good amount of shimmer on the lids; but, I didn't find it anything outstanding (right if you think diamonds on your eyes, maybe I was expecting a tad more shimmer?!) But it is pretty and it's a pretty typical lid shadow shade and formula for me, so it will get good use in my collection!

Pat McGrath Labs Eyedols Eye Shadow in Rose Venus ~ $35.00 CAN. A cult-classic, crème de la crème of iconic shadows, now starring solo in seductive singles in a tantalizing array of textures and hues.

The Pat McGrath shadows are iconic and I've tried a couple of the smaller sized shadows and enjoyed the quality. I was really drawn to these shadows and I picked Rose Venus (gleaming golden rose) in a metallic finish; but, they also have a matte and shimmer finish as well.

This is truly a stunning metallic - I put it on and just thought wowowowow as I applied it - I tapped it on with my finger and blended it out slightly with a brush. It wore well, didn't crease and just looked stunning all day long!!!

Here is Rose Venus on! Isn't this so freaking stunning on?! Holy - the picture in the pan does not do this shadow justice! It's so gorgeous!

As I said in the Drugstore Shadow post, I'm on the shimmer/glitter shadow train and will not be getting off any time soon! It's such a quick and fabulous way to add some serious bling to the lid with little effort! While these were all pretty expensive, I was wowed but quite a few of these formulas - the Natasha Denona, Marc Jacobs, Hourglass, and Pat McGrath are all unreal. I feel like you are paying for the quality and would buy more of them!

The Dior and Lorac shadows are good too - just a little more subtle than the other ones! I do like having variety in the formulas that I use and these will get lots of use on my collection! Unfortunately, the Haus Laboratories just didn't work at all for me and I was expecting a bit more of the Charlotte Tilbury Formula (especially considering the price!)

Do you have a favourite Shimmery shadow formula?! I'd love to hear about it!

  1. It's really too bad about the Haus Laboratories shadow because the arm swatch looked so good, and CT seemed quite lackluster on the eye.
But that Pat McGrath one though, wow it's gorgeous!!!

    1. I was so shocked that it didn't look like that on the eyes - I even tried it more than once to make sure! Yes, I thought I was crazy for spending that much on a single, but man it's stunning on!
