Five on Friday - September 13, 2024 ~ Never Whistle At Night Book Review, September Most Anticipated Books, Porcupine in the Wild, Sunflowers, and Bissell Little Green Machine

Happy Friday everyone - hope you had a great week! And, happy Friday the 13th!

I purchased everything in this post

Another great book to share - Never Whistle At Night by a variety of indigenous authors, 4 stars. This is an Indigenous horror and dark fiction anthology - I've always said I sometimes struggle with short stories and ambiguous endings, but when it's explained by means of cultural teachings and leaving it up to the listener, I can be a little more accepting even though I typically like my stories wrapped up nicely.

It's Stampede time! Yahoo! I went with my sister in law and a cousin to Stampede and we had a blast - I had pickle pizza, dunkaroo mini donuts, and had so much fun! It's been such a hot week, but it's always a crazy, busy day!

Five on Friday - July 7, 2023 ~ GoodFood Meal Kit, Calaway Park, Peonies in My Garden, Ardene Clothing Haul, and Nimona

Happy Friday everyone - I'm on holidays right now, so I've pre-written this, I will be back to regular posting next week, but I'm also just looking at enjoying my Summer and lots of family time!

The Good Food box was provided in exchange for a review

I'm so excited my food sharing has led to a partnership with GoodFood box - I've never actually used a meal subscription service before, so I'm even more excited to share that I actually really enjoyed this too! I've been a little hesitant before, but I selected 3 vegetarian meals for 4 people (we got Kimchi & Asian Green Topped Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Beet, Feta & Pistachio Quinoa Bowls, and Burst Cherry Tomato Tortellini). All three meals were around 30 minutes to prep, cook and make and they were delicious! My hubby and I actually argued about who was getting what for leftovers! Check out my instagram for a video to see how my meals turned out

I just received my May Owlcrate subscription and this month's theme is "Against All Odds" - each month the book Owlcrate includes is signed by the author and comes with a note from the author as well. They often have special edition covers just for the box, and they seem to include a lot of exclusive items just for Owlcrate, which is so fun! As a bookworm, I have been loving this subscription! (Also, I put everything away and didn't take a picture, so check out my instagram or youtube for the video!)

Last weekend was beautiful and I wanted to get out and enjoy it with the kids - we drove out past Turner Valley to Sheep River Falls and it was beautiful! I love that this is a short little walk from the road and you can get right up to the Falls! It's also a beautiful drive and we had a great morning out there (we were also the only ones in the whole place at 10 a.m.!)

Five on Friday - May 21, 2021 ~ Fable & Namesake Book Reviews, Spring Blooms, Tea Dragons, and David's Tea and Book Outlet Hauls

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all had a good week - pretty normal week over here, but good because I did bring my older son in for his vaccine this week and I'm so glad that all of us eligible here have our first vaccines!

Alright, can I first say that I cannot get over how gorgeous these books are - they are the most stunning pair I've ever seen. Seriously, so gorgeous! Now, Fable and Namesake are a YA Fantasy Adventure duology by Adrienne Young. Fable came out in September 2020 and Namesake just came out in March 2021. This is a young adult, but I find it reads like a new adult or a little older, especially the second book!

Five on Friday - June 12, 2020

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - it's been another crazy week here. My husband is on 14 day isolation for potentially being exposed to a covid case and so we've both been tested, as we work in a congregated living placement so everyone had to be tested. I'm working from for the week awaiting our results (we are very confident that everything will be negative; but, it just added stress for the week and hard to be home so much!)

Five on Friday - June 5, 2020

Happy Friday everyone and what a week it's been! Whoa!

ONE

I think it's only fair to talk about what is very clearly going on right now and that is the Black Lives Matter and anti-racists movements sparked by George Floyd's death by a police officer over him allegedly using a fake $20 bill. I can't watch the whole video, but even the clips are gut-wrenching. As someone who is not racist and has taken steps to really educate myself on Canada's racialized past, it's truly awful to see such a systemic problem continuing. It's not even anymore to not be racist, we need to be strongly anti-racist and use our white privilege to educate ourselves and support the movement. Personally I've not backed down on conversations about race and reactions sparked by this and will continue to use my voice - especially when it comes to educating my children about race issues and how we can help. My heart has felt heavy, and I can only empathize with the black community and those directly affected by this. Let it not be a moment, but a movement.

On a happier note, we did go out to the family cabin this past weekend and it was so nice to get away! We were still being social distant bringing all our food and drinks and just staying with my husband's parents (who are watching our little guy while we work still). The weather was beautiful on Saturday and we went for a kayak down the river and just enjoyed being outside. Was crazy rainy the next day, but no complaints - I read a 500 page book over the weekend so I think I got my quota of relaxing time in too!

I have been loving really getting back in to reading (I used to share my book reviews on a whole separate page here, and I know it didn't really fit), but I've really been trying to expand and share what I've been reading, because it's something I do basically every day and I do love it! So I hope you guys enjoy seeing what I'm planning on reading!

This past weekend, I saw that ColourPop put their My Little Pony eyeshadow palette on final clearance and said it wouldn't be restocked. So, I ruuuushed to get swatches and a review up over the weekend and went to write the post on Tuesday night and boom, the palette was sold out!

Eeeek - so exciting you guys! The Calgary Zoo finally has pandas and I went this morning to see them! The Panda Passage was only open today and this past week to members, and if you are patiently waiting, it opens to the public on Monday!

Happy Friday everyone! hope you have had a great week! Mine has been pretty simple - lots of visitors in and out to meet the baby and trying to find a good awake and sleep routine, but it's slowly coming!

ONE

This is pretty much what my new day to day life looks like - I snuggle with Elliott and when he sleeps I try and get some blogging or other tasks done! I will put him down soon, but I actually love when he snuggles like this!

Five on Friday - July 29, 2016

Happy Friday everyone! It's a long weekend her too and I'm looking forward to it!

Also, for all of us Harry Potter geeks out there, it is the weekend where the latest Harry Potter book will come out!!! I'm so excited for the 31st as here in Calgary, one community is having the streets turned in to Diagon Alley for the day! If you don't already, follow me on Instagram here to follow along for the awesome day!

I was so excited this week when I saw Mediheal masks this week in Superstore! Mediheal makes some of my favorite masks! They were very affordable with the "Ade" masks being $1.49 and the Healing Solution mask was $3.29. If you guys love Mediheal or are interested in trying them, head to you local Superstore!

Also, earlier this week I tested out the Cacao Ade mask - you can see it here

Spring 2016 FabFitFun - Unboxing and Review

FabFitFun is a quarterly lifestyle box! For $57.99 USD for Canadians, (FabFitFun is $49.99 in the U.S.A.) at the start of each season, they guarantee you will receive at least $100 worth of items - generally the past boxes have all had well over $200 worth of goodies in them!

FabFitFun has been shipping to Canada for over a year now and I have been pretty happy with the FabFitFun boxes - this is one of my favorite subscriptions! I stick to it despite the crappy exchange rate because the value is always there!!! (I have to say the Winter 2015 box was not my favorite but I saw a few spoilers for the Spring box and had to get it!)

The Spring 2016 Box is their 3rd anniversary box! Here is a look at the Spring FabFitFun box:
spring 2016 fabfitfun subscription box

Lately, all the FabFitFun boxes have come with really pretty designs - this one was also quite a bit bigger than regular!
