Five on Friday - February 11, 2022 ~ Little Passports Subscription, Calgary Zoo, TBR Romance Reads, Thrifted Kids Book Finds, and Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week - I was back to normal this week and honestly, it was sooo nice to get back at it. I recovered fine from the 'vid, but still had a few rough sleeps this week with a cough, but certainly improved by the end of the week, so I'm pretty close to 100% again! (Also, I just twisted my ankle late last night and am resting up today to try and make it feel better, but I can't walk right now!)

I purchased everything in this post (the subscription was a gift from family) - this post contains affiliate links

Elliott was gifted a Little Passports subscription for Christmas, and we just got the third delivery! Little Passports is a kids subscription company that focuses on "play-based science and geography kits delivered monthly."

They offer 5 different subscriptions for ages 3 - 8+ and they have 3 different Geography based subscriptions and 2 Science subscriptions. So, Elliott is getting the Early Explorers meant for ages 3-5 and it's described as "discover the world’s wonders, from oceans to art to animals through hands-on activities, games and stories." This subscription is $27.95 US monthly, and you can also add on a book for $9.95 - you save more if you subscribe to a longer term. The first month comes with a little suitcase and passport to set you up for future months. I think this subscription sends you things based one your subscription term as opposed to having a new set of activities each month (meaning every subscriber will get the Ocean theme for month 2 of their subscription term, instead of Oceans being only the January 2022 theme).

So, this is the third month and the theme is "Food" - each month you will receive a themed package with an interactive souvenir, activity booklet, a puzzle, stickers, and more.

The Food theme came with an activity book, stickers, cards a book and a felt food set - this is the cutest because we play little food making games! Elliott loved making the sushi! So, this is super cute and I'm excited to see what else will come!

TWO

One of first orders of business when our quarantine was over was to get out of the house last weekend for as long as we could - we made of day of the Zoo, and as always it's one of our favourite places! We loved the penguins and Elliott especially loved the owls and Snow Leopard this time too! Always a great day!

THREE

We are nearing Valentine's Day, which means we have to talk about Romance Reads right?! It's actually one of my least read genres, but I love to pick up a rom com after some heavy reads or just to lighten things up, so here are a few romance books I plan on reading soon:
  • Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert ~ This is a book about Chloe, who is trying to liven things up a little, so she makes a "Get A Life" list and ends up enlisting some help with the list from someone who works in her apartment building. I actually just finished this one and thought it was a fun rom-com (but certainly spicier than I'm used to in my books) and it had great representation of chronic pain and I loved the characters!
  • Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren ~ I've been a big fan of the last few Christina Lauren books I've read, so I'd like to give some of their older titles a try! This focuses on a first love (and heartbreak) and them meeting again after 14 years when our main character is an up and coming movie star! Sounds like it's got lots of tension and should be good!
  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne ~ Okay, I have to read this one soon because I really want to watch the movie, but have to read the book first! This is clearly an enemies to lovers book, which I love if it's done right! The are co-workers who are up for the same promotion and I the reviews of this one are so good - sounds like exactly what I'd like in a romance!
  • The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood ~ Okay, this book has been so hyped the last few months, that when it was on a great sale, I had to pick it up and see my thoughts! This is set in the STEM field and focuses on a fake dating trope to appease the main character's best friend - I actually didn't love the cover initially and wasn't planning on picking this up, but after hearing how good everyone thinks it is, I'm excited to give it a go!
  • Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade ~ This is a seemingly geeky romance featuring the star of a popular show and someone he chats with on a fanfic site - neither knowing the other's true identity. After something happens on social media, they end up on a date together, but clearly they both want more out of it. I love a little geekiness and body representation, so this should be a good one!
Are you reaching for any romances during Love month?!

FOUR

Alright, I love thrifting for books (kids and adults), so I thought I came up with a pretty good haul from Value Village this past weekend! I have had this Elliott's Guide to Dinosaurs book on my wishlist for so long because of the name and I was thrilled to find it, along with a couple books in chapter book series we love, and an original Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs book! So many good finds this time!

FIVE

I thought I'd share one of my favourite meals recently - this may be one of the only meals that everyone (especially my 4 year old) eats without a peep, Crunchwrap Supremes! They are all the taco fixins layered up inside a tortilla and it's so good! I thought I'd include my recipe too - I leave a few things out for my toddler, and it's super versatile, I use plant meat in mine, but mushrooms, beans, beef anything is good in them!

I hope you all have a good weekend!
