Manicure Monday (Ikat Nail Art)

Whoops, I went to bed super early last night and skipped out on Mani Monday! Time to catch up now!

I found my inspiration earlier this week when The Nail Trail posted a photo/video to her instagram with a quick how to for ikat nails! I had to try it - plus after having light pink quiet nails for a week, I needed something bright!

Here are the products I used for this week's Mani:

  • Kiss Nail Art Paint in Black
  • Kiss Nail Art Paint in White
  • Color Club Neon Orange (no color name)
  • Whet in "Facetious" - from an older Ipsy bag
  • Formula X Nail Cleanser and Base Coat
  • OPI Top Coat
  • Nail Art Brush
Here are the steps I followed for this week's Mani:
1. Nail Cleanser and Base Coat
2. Base polish on every nail (I usually recommend 2 coats, but this week's polish was quite thin and took 3 coats)

3. Take the white nail polish and using nail art polish (or a nail art pen would work even better!) use small dash brush strokes to create an uneven triangle towards the top of the nail (aim for about half way up the nail)

4. Using the accent color (I chose a bright blue) - using a nail art brush, use dash brush strokes create a line across the centre of the white polish (mine is a little wonky but it will even out in the end - this look is not meant to be perfect!)

5. Using the black nail art polish (or nail art pen) complete the look by filling in a triangle at the nail tip. The use dash brush strokes to highlight the white at the top of the nail:

6. Create the pattern on as many or as few nails as you like - I chose to do 2 accent nails
7. Top coat to smooth everything out!

Again, here is a look at my final results:

I'm not going to lie, I love this pattern!!! The only thing that would have made my life easier is to have nail art pens - they would have given me a little more control with the brush strokes! I was looking for something bold and bright this week so I am happy with this!
