Fresh, Fun Products for Spring!

It sounds so cliche; but, the word I always associate with Spring is "fresh". New growth and new beginnings - everything about the season just always feels fresh and new. You know what I mean, right?! That fresh scent of Spring is my favourite!

Personally, Calgary is a little slow to get on the fresh train - we had snow this whole past weekend and it's been pretty cold! I'm waiting for that slow warm up, so I can start to see green grass and my garden grow!

But, to go along with the fresh Spring vibes, I thought I'd share some products I've been trying lately that just feel Springy and fresh!

Fresh, Fun Products for Spring!

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist ~ $37.00 CAN. An ultra-fine, hydrating mist formulated with a juicy blend of 84-percent watermelon, hyaluronic acid, and hibiscus to refresh skin and enhance makeup.

I've really liked everything that I've tried from Glow Recipe - both their Watermelon Sleeping Mask and Oil-Free Moisturizer are some of my favourite products! I've also recently tried the Banana Moisturizer and really liked it too, so I've been pretty excited about what this brand comes up with!

This mist is made with Watermelon to sooth and hydrate, Hyaluronic Acid to retain moisture, and Hibiscus Flower AHA to gently smooth the skin. This mist is meant to soften, hydrate and prep skin for optimal makeup application.

This mister is described as "ultra fine" and "fog-like", which is the perfect way to describe it - it is super light and refreshing to spray on! The formula is supposed to help balance oil and the watermelon line is always meant to leave the skin glowing.

The light mist is so refreshing and it feels so cool and hydrating on the skin - it certainly has been nice and glowy! I always use mists after toners and before serums to help them absorb in to the skin, but these can certainly be used any time for a refresher. Actually, as someone who works in an essential service, we have a new directive coming this week that we will have to start wearing masks for our shifts, so I personally plan on bringing a mist with me for work so I can constantly refresh and hydrate my skin! It also smells like a watermelon jolly rancher for an added bonus!

Reversa Retin[A]list Cream ~ $60.00 CAN. This performing skin care, which is 98% natural, contains 0.3% of pure retinol encapsulated in biodegradable microspheres for a controlled release during the day. Fragmented hyaluronic acid completes the anti-wrinkles action. Combined with a potent antioxidant and a Tasmanian berry with immediate soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, retin[A]list creams offers all the benefits of retinol, without the drawbacks, to fight skin aging. The appearance of wrinkles and dark spots is reduced, the skin is firmer and radiant.

This is my first foray in to using Retinol in my skincare routine, but again I always think of Spring as starting something new, so it seems like as good of time as any right?! For the last few years I've focused more on preventative aging products; but, honestly now that I'm 33 with a toddler and a teenager, it's time to step it up and start focusing on actual anti-aging products!

What's great about this Retinol product is that it came with a little pamphlet about how to use this, especially if this is your first time trying Retinol and I found it incredibly helpful. Essentially you use this after cleansing and toning - apply a pea size amount to the face and massage in. Then follow up with the rest of you skincare routine (the brand recommends avoiding the use of glycolic acid at the same time as retinol, so on the nights I'm using this, I will switch my acid to the daytime).

Also, you will need to build up a tolerance to retinol, so start by using this once or twice a week for three or fours weeks, then gradually increase this to three or four times per week for another three or four weeks until you can increase it to every day. I personally will likely maintain my use at three or four times per weeks. It's also really important to wear an SPF while using this. But, so far I probably about 5 weeks in to using this and I'm enjoying the benefits - my skin is looking smoother and brighter and I'm hoping with more extended use that I can more anti-aging benefits too!

Calgon Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Mist ~ $8.99 CAN. A warm afternoon basking in the sun with the breeze whispering the sweet notes of spring.

There is something about Springtime to me that just calls for a fresh, floral scent?! I always like my scents a little on the sweeter side too! For scents, I typically always use a body spray, unless it's a special occasion that calls for a perfume, as body mists are just a lighter and fresher scent!

And, Calgon sprays always feel so nostalgic for me (Hawaiian Ginger used to be my go-to scent for years and I still love it, I just haven't used it in a while), so I always like trying out their other scents!

The Japanese Cherry Blossom scent is floral and smells like fresh Spring blooms (yes I know, duh - it's called Cherry Blossom)! Also, the Morning Glory scent is floral; but, it's also refreshing and a cleaner scent for Spring and Summer!

Vichy Ideal Body Serum-Milk ~ 32.95 CAN. Serum-milk for ideal skin quality, continuous hydration, harmonized skin tone, firmness and smoothness.

I will talk about body lotion every season and all seasons - I'm huge about moisturizing my body every single day! But, I do always change up the formula to suit the new weather and my skin's needs as the seasons change. For example, in Fall and Winter I'm always using rich body butters and oils, where spring and summer call for lighter formulas!

Vichy has a really nice range of lotions with all different consistencies - this one is a body milk or "serum-milk", which is a perfect consistency for Spring and Summer! The formula actually uses Hyaluronic Acid and LHA combined with 10 oils (jojoba, rosehip, sunflower, ect.) to leave skin both smooth and firm.

This lotion quality had a really thin consistency and was nice and light - perfect for Spring and Summer (now Calgary needs to get the hint and stop being so freezing cold, stop snowing and catch up with the rest of the country, so this consistency can work better for my skin right now!) But I have no doubt as it gets a little warmer and less dry out this will be perfect!

This "serum-milk" has a gentle scent and absorbs quickly in to the skin - it has a scent, that could be considered a little strong but I quite like it! I can't really describe the scent, other than it smells fresh (you would think I could come up with a better descriptive word given the name of this post, but scent descriptions is not my strong suit!) I also love that leaves a little hint of shimmer on the skin.

Sweet As Candy Girl Power Bubble Bath ~ $15.00 CAN. Enjoy the most fluffy bubbles scented in Tangerine Coconut while you help support and amazing non profit organization! 50% of sales will go to Calgary Immigrant Women's Association to help new immigrants with basic needs, education and finding appropriate resources to best suit their family.

Is there anything better than a great product that also supports a great cause?! I love Sweet As Candy bath! They are a local Calgary company that makes the cutest bath products and I haven't tried their bubble baths before - the scent of this one is "tangerine and coconut" and it smells absolutely so amazing and the bubble bath is so good too.

I've chatted about this collaboration a couple of times because Sweet As Candy actually teamed up with Land of Daughters and The Hollowbird Co. and this was their International Women's Day collab - they all donated 50% of the profits during the month of March to the Calgary Immigrant Women's Association, which is amazing! (I think this is a limited edition collection too so when it's sold out, it's gone, so if the scent sounds like something you would like, you should give it a try!)

  5. I tried the Vichy Ideal Body Serum-Milk in the past, and loved how it made my skin feel silky smooth! I wasn't a huge fan of the shimmers in it, though.

    1. Yes - they are quite shimmery. My husband went to use it and I advised him against it for those reasons!
