I'm so exited to share today's post! I have been so jealous watching people in places like Toronto and Los Angeles be able to go to Lip Labs and make their own custom lipsticks! There has been nothing like that anywhere near Alberta, until now!
Posh Couture Cosmetics is located in St. Albert, Alberta - just outside of Edmonton. I heard about Posh Couture a little while ago and have been waiting for a chance to pay them a visit!
I was in Edmonton, AB for training at work a couple weeks ago and booked myself in to make a custom lipstick shade! Posh Couture cosmetics is located inside Suburbia Hair Spa in St. Albert and it's such a cute little strip mall. (In addition to this location, I believe they have a pop-up shop open in West Edmonton Mall right now as well!)
I was greeted by the lady who would be helping me create my custom lipstick and brought over to the Posh Couture area. I looked through their binder and was talked to a little bit about the ingredients - they are all natural and you can see a list.
Then we started to discuss what I was looking for in a custom lipstick - I explained that I was basically looking for a "my lips but better shade". I wanted something that was a combination of rose and nude, without being too warm, too cool, or too brown on my lips.
Maybe this sounds a little boring; but, I feel like I don't really have a shade I can wear every day if I'm out for work or out with the family - I do have lots of lip shades; but, wanted my custom one to be the perfect shade like this for me!
They mix a combination of shades in front of you and you try it on - I think I tried on 4 or 5 before settling on my perfect shade! I would try it on and then describe how it could be changed - so the first one was "too pink" or the next one was "too light" and they would continue to customize and add shades based on the feedback I gave. Once I settled on my perfect shade, they use a formula to determine the exact amount of each shade to make a full size lipstick!
This is actually my custom lipstick all perfectly measured prior to being mixed up! At this point you can also add an essential oil to the lipstick as well - they have everything from lavender to patchouli to peppermint. I chose Sweet Orange for mine! Then, the lipstick is mixed up on the plate!
Once it's all mixed up, the lipstick is scraped in to a cup, where it is melted down and poured in to a lipstick mold that has been coated in jojoba oil. The lipstick is then placed in the fridge for 5 minutes. Once the lipstick is set, it is slid from the mold into the lipstick case!
And, voila, after that whole process; here is my custom lipstick shade! This whole custom lipstick experience was $60.00 CAN. I'm super happy with my experience - it was so fun to totally customize a shade to exactly how I wanted it to look on me!
Here is my custom Posh Couture Cosmetics shade on! I love it! And, I have to say - the formula is really great! It is very nourishing and soft to wear on the lips - it is so comfortable to wear all day! It won't set down, so it isn't a transfer proof formula; but, it can be blotted. I found it wasn't smudging all over the place and wore really nicely for hours on the lips. It was actually like wearing a lip balm; but, with whatever colour you want!
The packaging of the lipsticks is okay - it's a little bulky; but, I think it's a little cute. The lid is just plastic, so it might not be the best to travel with. I think Posh Couture also offers pre-made lipsticks for purchase as well as the custom shades.
Overall, I'm very happy with my Posh Couture Cosmetics custom lipstick experience! It was so cool to perfectly select a colour and watch it made right in front of your eyes! I love it!
If you guys are anywhere near Edmonton, Alberta I would highly suggest this experience if it's of interest to you! I also think a gift card for this would make a great gift to someone, as it's just such a personal experience!
