2015 Color of the Year - and Color of the Year Manicure Monday (January Color of the Year Feature)

Did you know every year Pantone introduces its "Color of the Year"? Ya, me neither - but now that I know, I love the idea!

2015's Color of the Year is: Marsala

Marsala was picked because: "Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors."

I kind of see it as a brownish-burgundy - it is not a color I normally wear, but I am going to challenge myself to feature a fashion/beauty/or nail post each month based on this year's color of the year!

Sephora + Pantone have created a make-up line featuring Marsala:

When I can get my hands on the palette, I will be reviewing it and providing some makeup looks!

For now, while I don't have anything "Marsala", my inspiration for this week's Manicure Monday is Wine Red. Here is a look at the products I used:

  • Formula X Nail Cleanser and Base Coat
  • RGB Polish in "Oxblood" (from the Nina Garcia Box)
  • OPI Top Coat
The steps I followed were really easy this week:
1. Nail cleanser and base coat
2. Two coats of wine red nail polish
3. Dry well and Top coat

So, this polish was streaky and did not go on smoothly - it is certainly based on the Color of the Year (but for my first monthly feature on Marsala, I'm not thrilled - sorry!!). I do not think I will be using this polish again.

What do you think of the Color of the Year?
And, what did you do for your Manicure Monday?
