There was something about the Urban Decay Stoned Vibes palette that caught my eye when it was released, but I wasn't sure about spending almost $70 when I wasn't sure how the "stoned" shadow formula was going to be, so when I saw a mini version on the Shopper's website, I couldn't resist!
I purchased this palette on my own
I liked that this little mini came with 3 mattes and 3 "marbleized shimmers" as the stoned shades. What's nice about this mini, is that it's not the exact shades in the full sized Stoned Vibes palettes (so if you really loved that one, this one wouldn't be a duplicate palette), but it does have some similarities.
I liked that the mattes were pretty distinctly light, medium and dark; but, for the shimmers, I wish it wasn't so blue heavy (it would have been nice with a green or purple, similar to the original palette!)
Urban Decay Stoned Vibes Mini Eyeshadow Palette ~ $33.00 CAN. (Also, currently on sale on Shoppers Drug Mart). This mini palette features all-vegan eyeshadows designed for attracting good vibes. Use your fingers with the three ultra-creamy, marbleized shimmers to build up more color payoff—these shades are infused with real tourmaline crystals. The high-pigment satin and matte shades are super-velvety and blendable.
These are matte, a satin and a new marbleized shimmer formula - these are infused with crystals and I think that's cute, especially with the branding and style of the shadows. I'm not going to lie - these shadows are gorgeous and I was so drawn to trying them, so I fell for the branding for sure. (Although, I don't believe the little amount of crystals in the small amount of eyeshadow I'm wearing will bring good vibes to me - I didn't quite fall that much for it!)
Radiate ~ pink shimmer with iridescent micro-shimmer
Attraction ~ soft pink mauve matte
Seeker ~ blue shimmer with violet micro-shimmer
Optimist ~ ivory satin
Energy ~ green shimmer with gold shift
Third Eye ~ brown matte
This is a decent range, but you can see that the green and blue end up being both quite blue when swatched. The mattes were good - Optimist and Attraction were lovely to use, I really loved Attraction in my crease and it was really pretty; but, Third Eye was a really disappointing matte. It was super stiff, did not blend out well and just looked a little patchy when I tried to blend. It didn't work well for me at all!
The shimmer shadows were less-pigmented than I expected - they swatched okay, but they apply even lighter to the eye (even applied with a finger or wet brush). They are much more of an eye shadow topper, than a full shimmer shadow - I actually had to lay down Optimist to help these show on the lids. Also, once Energy and Seeker were swatched, I wanted a little more variety than two blues (Energy did not appear green at all to me).
Here is an eye look using Optimist as the base, Attraction through the crease, and Third Eye in the outer corner. Then I had to apply Optimist to the lid, and apply Radiate to the lid and Energy to the inner corner.
You can actually see in this picture that these shadows creased on me - the mattes and the shimmers. I never have mattes crease on my crease, I have an eye primer on. And, it wasn't as if these creased over the day - this was right after I applied these to my lids! I used this for a palette of the week, and these looked terrible about halfway through my work day too - the shimmers did not last at all.
So, I'm quite sad to report that I didn't really love this palette (and by didn't really love, I mean a lot didn't love and I'm trying to sound nice). I've heard really good things about the full sized Stoned Vibes palette, so I'm really surprised that I just found these shadows not good at all. I realize the end look here isn't terrible, but it didn't last long and I can easily dupe it with a little nicer formulas already in my collection!
Have you tried this mini palette or the full sized Stoned Vibes palette? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
