I'm a pretty big Game of Thrones fan - I've read all the books and seen all the shows, and since those books are really long, I can brag that I'm a true fan (I'm only kind of kidding to those of you who haven't read the books...). But really, I'm a big fan - my husband's birthday parties have been Game of Thrones themed, I've cooked a ton of food featured in the books and I'm pretty sure for the finale we are going to a costume party.
So anyways, all I'm saying is when I saw this collection announced I HAD to have it. So I pick up the eyeshadow palette and one Vice Lipstick in Sansa, and I was considering the highlighter palette also; but, thought it may have been to dark for me overall and I really wanted to pick up some products that I would use!
Urban Decay Game of Thrones Eyeshadow Palette ~ $77.00 CAN. An arsenal of 20 eyeshadow shades you can use to declare your allegiance to House Targaryen, to House Lannister, or to House Stark, or to defeat the White Walkers.
These 20 shadows were inspired by the 7 kingdoms, with some neutrals and earthy tones along with metallics and frosty shimmers. This palette also includes 4 "transformer" shadows.
Yes, the packaging for this palette is huge and totally over the top; but, wouldn't we have been a little disappointed if they didn't go a little all out for this collection?! The packaging itself is nice and looks like a big book! Then, you open the palette up and the details are fantastic - it looks just like the maps of Westeros, and has a nice mirror. It's got a quote from Daenerys as well.
And then you open it up to see the Iron Throne and another quote. I happen to love how extra this packaging it - I think it's fun! The only thing I don't love is that then the eyeshadows slide out in a tray, it makes it a little hard to hold while using the palette mirror; but, I just use a standing mirror instead!
Once you slide the palette out, you get 20 shadows divided in to 4 sections - 3 Houses and 1 area of Beyond the Wall. The White Walkers aren't a house, so I just can't call it 4 houses. I will agree with some of the critiques that it would have been cool to see multiple smaller palettes with the different houses as this doesn't seem like the most cohesive palette overall. But, I do think the shadows are pretty!
Take the Black ~ jet black with iridescent micro-shimmer
White Walker ~ blue shift
Frozen North ~ deep teal with iridescent micro-shimmer
Free Folk ~ silver metallic
Hardhome ~ sparkling white transformer shade
These are the "White Walker" shades, or what I will say is Beyond The Wall because it includes the Free Folk. It's very blue, white and shimmery which fits with the theme. These are pretty; but, it would have been nice to have one matte to tie these together!
Nymeria ~ warm terracotta matte
Winter Is Here ~ dark brown with iridescent micro-shimmer
Weirwood Leaves ~ deep plum satin
The Sight ~ metallic green with iridescent micro-shimmer
Winterfell ~ antique gold transformer shade
I'm a pretty true House Stark fan! Yes, Arya is an amazing bad ass; but, we can't forget the rest of them too. I love this section of 5 shadows and I think it's my favorite, which is a little surprising as I don't tend to reach for these shades!
Red Keep ~ warm copper metallic
Casterly Rock ~ dark bronze metallic
House Lannister ~ peach matte
Lannister Red ~ burgundy brick matte
King's Landing ~ pale gold transformer shade
Here is the Lannister section. Also, side note - who thought they'd like a couple Lannister characters by the final season of Game of Thrones?! I do like this section as they are good base shades and they are all very warm; but, for some reason, these don't seem the most cohesive to me!
Stormborn ~ purple metallic with iridescent micro-shimmer
House Targaryen ~ pale rose-gold metallic
Dothraki ~ gold metallic
Bend the Knee ~ lilac with blue shift
Bay of Dragons ~ sparkling pink transformer shade
The House Targaryen section is a bunch of gorgeous metallics that looks like Spring is a little palette. I do really like all of these shadows.
So, overall I know one of the biggest downfalls of this palette is that it doesn't come with a lot of matte shadows (there is 3 of them out of 20) and I agree that there could be a couple more. I really think House Lannister and Nymeria and really good mattes for me to make looks with. I like the metallic and shimmers shades and the transformer shades are pretty; but, I'm not entirely sure the difference (other than that they are chunkier shimmer shades).
The shadows did have a fair bit of fallout, so I would suggest applying eye makeup before everything else and I thought the shadows that I used applied well. I do think that the transformer shades are best applied with a wet brush or using a tacky base to help it hold. Overall, I actually like the shades in this palette and think I will get a lot of use out of it!
Urban Decay Vice Lipstick - Sansa Stark ~ $23.00 CAN. Fight quietly and let your profound strength emerge with Sansa Stark, a warm peach nude.
I never actually tried an Urban Decay lipstick prior to this, so I was excited. Sansa is sheer peachy lipstick and it's totally up my alley. I love this shade!
The packaging is really gorgeous on this - the Direwolf sigil detail is really pretty and it's not an overlay that will peel off, it's really on there!
This is a really pretty light peach shade - again it's a sheer formula, so it's not the most pigmented formula. It's light and gentle to wear on the lips and is smooth and comfortable! But, I have to say this lipstick is quite soft and the whole bullet actually broke right off while I was swatching this and it was tragic!
I declared my allegiance to House Stark with this eye look! I used House Lannister as a transition shade and took it quite high in the crease, then I deepened the crease with Nymeria. I applied The Sight to the outer corner, through the lower crease, and in to the inner corner. Then I applied Weirwood Leaves all over the lid, and I applied a little bit of Winterfell to the centre of the lid. I applied Dorthraki to the lower lash line and King's Landing to the inner corner.
Here is my House Stark eye look paired with the Sansa Stark lipstick! I wish I was able to create a few more eye looks; but, unfortunately right after I created that one I was hit with a double eye infection and I'm not applying any makeup while using my drops so it clears up properly!
Here is a closer look at the eyeshadows. I've paired this look with Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Foundation and L'oreal L'Oreal Paradise Enchanted Scented Blush in Fantastical.
I'm so happy with the Game of Thrones collection - what a good release for Urban Decay to have right before the series ends!
What do you think of the Urban Decay Game of Thrones collection? Are you picking anything up? I may have a giveaway for this palette coming up soon for my Blogiversary!

DeleteThis GoT Palette is gorgeous!! Love the shades and how you chose the House of Stark's look ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteAwww I loved hearing about your Game of Thrones love! Kudos to you for getting through the books - they're beasts! I think I've read the first two.. and the others are sitting on my book shelves ready and waiting to be read. I LOVE the idea of a GoT themed birthday party - the food would be so cool! I don't have the patience for that, but I love that you've done that! The palette didn't do a whole lot for me at initial glance... but your swatches are far better than most I've seen. It looks less disjointed when swatched out by grouping! I was hoping to get one or two of the eyeliners but they've sold out online so I took it as a sign that I should just leave them alone. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're loving it!
Thanks Chelle! The books are total beasts and the parties were fun (they were total pre-toddler days). I feel the same way about the palette - I was not sure initially; but, I actually really like it!
DeleteI love the House Stark look! That would be my choice as well :)
ReplyDeleteYes for House Stark!!!
