Essence Eyeshadow Palette All About Vintage - Review, Swatches, and Makeup Looks!

This is one of the palettes I bought on my big makeup shopping trip in the U.S. - the Essence All About Vintage Palette (I read that this is an exclusive palette with Essence and Target, so you can only purchase it at Target!)

Essence Eyeshadow Palette All About Vintage

Essence All About Vintage... Eyeshadow Palette ~ $5.49 US. All about… beautiful eyes! Gorgeous eyeshadow palettes with eight complementing, buildable colors and multiple finishes; satin, matte and metallic effects.

The colours in this palette are quite beautiful - not what I normally tend to buy, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and this was such a great price point to do that at!

Here are the shadows swatched (one swipe with a finger and no primer or photoshopping for a true look at the colors!

The top row are all satin and metallic finishes - in the swatches they were very pigmented and smooth (the darkest color was a little patchy to me). They are quite soft and apply well.

The bottom row has 1 matte shade (the lightest) and the rest are satin and metallic finishes. I found the matte shade to be a little chalky, but the other 3 colors applied very smoothly and had good pigmentation.

I created 2 looks using this palette - a daytime and an evening look:

The day time look includes the first 3 colours in the top row (with the green lightly in the crease) and the 3rd shade in the bottom row mixed in on the lid - I do wish these had names to help explain! I added a light line of Stila Stay All Day eyeliner and a coat of Rollerlash Mascara to complete the look.

This evening look really uses the entire bottom row and the dark green from the top row - the darkest 2 shades are combined in the crease and I have added the dark green under the eye as well. The 2, 3rd shades in are combined on the lid as well to create a really nice green/brown combination. Again, Stila Stay All Day liner and Rollerlash Mascara were added to complete the look. A heavier winged liner would also look great with this for evening to add a more dramatic look.

This palette swatched really well and were smooth and beautiful. I found using them in makeup looks was a little harder than just swatching them on the arm. Most of these shadows are quite metallic, so even doing a light daytime look was challenging. The colours did not hold as well on the lid (over primer) and had to be applied a couple of times. While the colours are nice, I personally think they need to be used in combination with another palette or a few matte shades so it doesn't look over the top metallic or shimmery. That being said, for $5.49 this palette was a great price and does have some beautiful colours that could easily be combined at that price point!

Have you tried any essence palettes? Which is your favorite?

  1. Essence shadows have been a favorite of mine since I was able to try them both through PR samples and my own purchases. I'm dying to get my hands on these larger palettes though!

    1. This was actually my first time trying any Essence shadows - I do wish all the palettes were more easily available though! This is a Target exclusive, and if you have seen the shipping on that site, it is scary!

  2. I'm always amazed at how inexpensive Essence is - for such good quality too! I haven't tried any of their eyeshadows (it's actually really tough for me to find Essence at the Shoppers Drug Marts in my area), but I've bought a couple of lip products from them before.

    1. I'm finding Essence a little more now - I have seen a few products available at my local Superstore, so hopefully that means it will be a little easier to find for you soon! I am impressed with the quality per value for sure!

  3. I've never tried Essence but have heard great things. Those shadows are so pretty! It's too bad they don't apply as nicely as the swatches.
