Time for a look at my July Monthly reads! Each month I share a quick look at the books that I've read with a little synopsis and my rating - anything that I love or is really intriguing, I will share a more in depth review on a different post!
I purchased everything in this post
I read 3 physical books and listened to 3 audiobooks. Here's a quick look at all the books I read in the past month:
The Brides of High Hill by Nghi Vo ~ ☆☆☆☆ - 4 stars. This is the 5th book in the adult fantast novella series - The Singing Hills. This is a series where a cleric goes around collecting stories and found themselves in a few tricky situations. I loved the setup for this particular ones and how it got a little dark! Enjoyed it!
What The River Knows by Isabel Ibanez ~ ☆☆☆☆ - 4 stars. This is the first in a YA fantasy duology and this was such a fun book - it's got lots of travel, suspense and betrayals! After our main characters parents pass away, she travels to Egypt to find out more information. She gets swept up in an adventure down the Nile seeking Cleopatras tomb while a deeper plot of who to trust is going on. I enjoyed the action and that ending - I can't wait for the second book!
Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid ~ ☆☆☆½ - 3.5 stars. I flew through this on the weekend and now I'm caught up on all TJR's back list. This was older and one of my least favourite. This is sold as a romance, but I'd go in to that carefully - I didn't really read the description. So, it's also a story of mourning the loss of a husband interchanging with the earlier love story. I cried. But, some of the descriptions were out of date and her books have just improved since this one. It is worth a read though, still good!
Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren ~ ☆☆☆☆½ - 4.5 stars. This was an adult romance - the 4th in the Meant To Be series that is adult disney retellings in a realistic setting. I'm a big fan of the series and a little Tangled edition from one of my favourite romance author duos and it's fantastic. We meet the cutest main character, Ren who has been sheltered her whole life and finally is allowed go to college. She meets Fitz and through a series of events, they end up on a road trip together and it's so much fun. I love their banter and vibes and it's actually a good story and plot line too with Fitz taking Ren to a whole bunch of new places and experiences. Cute!
Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland ~ ☆☆☆☆ - 4 stars. This is the start of an adult fantasy series (maybe romantasy as it starts in this one but doesn't take over!) I really enjoyed this story - we have five people brought together with all one mission, to kill the king. But, they all secretly have their own motives/heists they want to pull off within the bounds of working together, so they don't know who they can trust. I love that added element of distrust. This is a fantasy romance, but the romance didn't take over and the plot was fast paced and lots going on with reveals and secrets! Can't wait for the second one!
Business Casual by B.K. Borison ~ ☆☆☆☆ - 4 stars. This is an adult romance and the 4th in the Lovelight Farms series that is set in a small town. I enjoyed this one - the characters were cute and they had good tension and it was one of my favourites of the series! Cute, easy read!
