January 2016 - Month in Masks and Mask Empties (with mini reviews!)

As most of you know by now, my Skincare Routine is very important to me and masking is a huge part of that routine (it is probably my favorite part on my skincare routine to be honest!) I use this an empties post too as I don't feature my sheet masks on my monthly empties post!

This post is a review of all the masks I use each month because it is a good way to get mini reviews out of all the masks I go through (because it is a lot!)

January 2
BioRepublic Skincare Pomegranate Crush Illuminating Mask ~ $7 (3 for $21). These antioxidant-packed fiber sheet masks will leave your skin brighter, smoother, and all-around happier—in less time than it takes to watch the latest episode of New Girl. Infused with pomegranate and green tea extract, the masks smooth and nourish your complexion for radiant, even skin. What’s more, the biodegradable sheets fit the contours of your face to avoid slipping and sliding—so you can sit back and relax while your mask does its work.

I got this in a swap (it had come in a set in past Ipsy bag, as well as Birchbox). This had lots of extra essence and was drenched - it fit decent and made my skin feel good. But, it had a bit of a weird sweet smell to it and I did not like that! Also, a $7 mask better blow my mind and this did not.

Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring Ampoule Mask

January 4
Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring Ampoule Mask ~ pack of 10 for $19.99. A moisture- boosting ampoule mask for dry skin Features a silky Cellulose sheet made of 100% pure cotton Developed with Natural Moisturizing Factor (N.M.F) system to provide intense hydration Contains Hyaluronic Acid & Ceramide to seal in moisture Loaded with Witch Hazel to shrink pores & control sebum Fills in fine lines while boosting skin vitality Skin appears softer smoother plumper brighter & soothed.

I was so excited when I saw Mediheal at Winners a while ago! Seriously, one of my favorite masks brands and at a reasonable price! This mask is nice and thin and soaked in essence. It fit really well and last a long time - this was awesome! Made my skin feel really great!

lovemore silk mask

January 6
Lovemore Rhodiola Antioxidant & Brightening Sheet Mask ~ $7.50US for 5 masks.

Lovemore Masks are silk masks and are very thin - they almost fit on like a second skin. I featured this one in a Wine and Mask Wednesday, and you can see a more detailed review here! The silk makes the amazingly soft and feels amazing to wear. This also had a really good amount of essence and lasted over 45 minutes! I will keep my Lovemore masks as my treat masks as they are so good!

January 9
Avene Eau Thermale Soothing Moisture Mask ~ sample (full size is $27.91). Normal to sensitive skin. Tired, dull, lack luster skin Reactive skin (Redness, tightness, sunburn). Benefits: Rich, creamy, non-setting mask soothes over stressed skin. Replenishes moisture to dehydrated skin and helps restore skin's barrier. Deeply penetrates skin to restore suppleness as it minimizes redness. Pleasant fragrance tolerated by sensitive skin. Preservative-free. Avène Thermal Spring Water to soothe and soften skin. Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.

I have had this on a past Month in Mask review before and this is a kind of wipe-off mask, but my skin usually absorbs it all within the 15 minutes! I do like this - it makes my skin feel very hydrated!

lush mask of magnaminty

January 10
Mask of Magnaminty ~ 125g for $13.95 (there is a bigger size 315g for $25.95). Mask of Magnaminty isn’t technically a daily ‘facial wash’; it’s actually a deep cleansing face and back mask. China clay and fresh peppermint reach deep down to pull the debris from your pores, giving you that delightful tingly-clean sensation. We add loads of aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe. Our inventors created Mask of Magnaminty to be the ‘ultimate face mask’, intense but not harsh or abrasive on the skin. We recommend using Mask of Magnaminty weekly to keep the skin in good condition.

I love my Lush masks - I have featured this in a more detailed review on a Skincare Sunday post here. The minty feel is great on the skin - cooling and very refreshing! This is a little difficult to remove and does require quite a few rinses, but it is worth the hard work removing!

January 13
Ciracle Jeju Volcanic Pore-Tightening Mask ~ $4. The Jeju Volcanic Pore-tightening Mask is a sheet mask infused with purifying Jeju volcanic clay, clarifying binchotan charcoal powder, mineral-rich Jeju seawater, and Ciracle's own Pore Tightening Serum. This power combination of proprietary and hero ingredients work together in a rich formula concentrated directly on the skin to remove impurities while sealing up pores and imparting moisture to the skin.

I have received this in a Peach and Lily box and can't believe I haven't used it yet! I sometimes struggle with pore-tightening masks because they can be a little drying, but this one promises to be moisturizing as well! I did a more detailed review on a Wine and Mask Wednesday that you can see here! I really loved the pore-tightening and moisturizing together - this made my skin feel awesome!

January 17
Albertini Warm Love Pumpkin Exfoliating Mask ~ sample size (full size is $23). Use Warm Love pumpkin exfoliating mask after cleansing your face, and prior to moisturizing. Use Warm Love mask 1-2 times a week for improved skin texture.

This mask was cool to use - you apply this to you skin (like pictured), then you wet your hands and exfoliate by rubbing the mask in to your skin for 2-3 minutes! So cool - it does get a little messy, but this is awesome! It smells exactly like a Pumpkin Spice Latte while you are using it! I really enjoyed this!

January 17
My Beauty Diary Imperial Bird's Nest Mask ~ $1.99. This mask provides the skin with nourishing and moisturizing nutrients. It moisturizes dry skin, feels soft and supple like a baby's skin. The enhanced hydration meets the ultimate needs of the skin and nourishing. The combination of rare elements from the sky, the extraction of 'Swiftlet's nest', and the extraction of deep-sea plant, 'coralline', with the reputation of 'submarine bird's nest' gives the skin this superb gourmet feast. It deeply improves skin hydration, provides rich nourishment and energy, heals dry and expression fine lines, erases dullness and roughness, and makes skin translucent, tender and smooth.

I received this in a past Beauteque Mask Maven pouch and was excited to try a bird's nest mask - this mask claimed to be ultra-hydrating and had lots of essence. It lasted a long time. This actually fit really good for a My Beauty Diary mask (usually they are super big). This made my skin feel really good, I was happy with this.

January 20
Royal Skin The Animalian Mask "Fox" ~ $3.47 (3000 won). Cute animal-character mask sheet for moist and vitalized skin.

This mask came from the 10 Days in the Wild Pouch from Mask Genie and I featured a more detailed review on a Wine and Mask Wednesday post here. This mask is so cute and I actually think it looks like a fox! So cute! On that note, this wasn't the best mask, there wasn't any extra essence and the essence on the mask was really uneven so some parts were dry and other parts were drenched. This made it hard to wear.

January 21
Baviphat Strawberry Toxifying Mask ~ $15 - $20. "This deep cleansing wash-off clay mask helps to tighten pores, control sebum and give relief to troubled skin. The Baviphat Strawberry Toxifying Mask contains strawberry extract (sebum control and acne prevention) and fruit acids full of Vitamin C that can help remove dead skin cells and tighten pores. Also, antoxidants help to prevent skin problems will reveal bright and clear skin while simultaneously helping to stave off the effects of ageing, such as enlarged pores as well as troubled skin problems.  Also included in the kit is a spatula for hygienic purposes."

I love this adorable little strawberry mask - it has been featured on a few Month in Masks post and a did a more detailed review here if you are interested! This is a clay based mask and this smells sooo good! This is a little messy rinsing off but does make the skin look great, clean, and refreshed!

January 23
Raspberry Roots Collagen Eye Patch ~ $5. Get younger-looking eyes with these patches that firm and tone the eye contour area. Enriched with raspberry root and collagen extract, they are perfectly suitable for sensitive skin of the eye contour area.

I was surprised that there was actually 2 sets of eye patches for $5, so $2.50 a set. I love eye masks and these ones adhered really well to the skin and worked well! I was able to wear them for a long time! Really happy with these!

January 24
Missha Pure Source Sheet Mask in "Pearl" ~ $1.99. For brightening and vitalizing.

I have used this mask once a long time and it wasn't great then, but I had a second one so I thought I would give it a try - I like that pearl masks are all about brightening. I couldn't wear this for more then 2 minutes. The fit was terrible and this really bothered my skin and was super tingly. I will not use this again. I had to use another one right away!

January 24
The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Mask - Acai Berry ~ $2. "This Acai Berry Face Mask offers you soft, firm skin in no time! As a powerful antioxidant, acai has toning and invigorating properties that are perfect for tired skin."

This mask fit a bit bigger than most Face Shop masks, but it worked really well. I have featured this on an old Wine and Mask Wednesday, if you want to see a more detailed review you can go here. This was good - it made my skin feel and look great. I am always happy with $2 masks from The Face Shop.

January 26
illi Camellia Nourishing Mask (Intensive Moisture) ~ $4.00. The Illi Camellia Nourishing Mask will make a believer out of anyone!  Camellia Oil - a super antioxidant that helps protect skin from environmental stressors and nasty free radicals, will leave your skin hydrated, soft and revitalized.  A winner in our books!

illi masks were my first venture in to hanabang masks (traditional medicinal ingredients) and this mask was amazing! I did a more detailed review on a Wine and Mask Wednesday - you can see it here! This mask came well soaked in essence and adhered really well to my face. This felt really amazing on and lasted for a long time on the skin (well over half an hour!). I made my skin feel sooo good, I am a huge fan!

January 30
Sulwhasoo Clarifying Mask ~ 10 samples for 7,000 Won (approx. $6.00 USD). A gentle yet effective peel-off mask to lift impurities and dead skin cells to detoxify and clarify. This unique honey-textured treatment is formulated with Solomonseal Powder to absorb impurities. Japanese Honeysuckle hydrates, smooths, and brightens. Powerful blend of Korean medicinal herbs. exfoliates and purifies for a clearer complexion.

I bought these samples because I really wanted to try Sulwhasoo, but it is a very expensive brand. This was a peel off mask and I was surprised that it came out a dark color. It was quite thick and a little hard to spread on the skin, but dried in about 10-15 minutes. This actually really hurt to peel off my face and I was a little shocked about it. I made my skin feel good after but I will have to be more careful taking it off.

January 31
The Face Shop Mango Seed Moisturizing Mask Sheet ~ $4. The Mango Seed Face Mask leaves skin soft and supple in a couple of minutes, thanks to the rich serum it contains. Enriched with mango seed butter, it provides skin with intense hydration and leaves a protective barrier on the epidermis. Ideal for dry to very dry skin.

I just finished up my mango seed essence and missed it so I was happy to use this mask! It came with extra essence that was a little milky and applied it first. This fit a little big and I wished it had more tabs for a better fit. This was very hydrating and lasted quite a long time. My skin really loved how soft this mask made it! I will use this again - so moisturizing!

Uh oh, I only used 16 masks for January! Not as many I was hoping to use! I thought I used a good variety of masks this month and it was fun to try some new masks and I found a couple of amazing masks this month (only 1 total failure!) I am going to try and use more masks in February!

  1. Did you use the whole sachet of Sulwhasoo clarifying mask in one go or is there enough in it for two uses?

    1. Hi Sarah! I used 1 full sample size pouch - there is not enough for 2 uses. I was worried there wouldn't be enough for 1 use as it is hard to get out, but it did cover my face pretty well.

    2. Thanks! I have these to use too but I've just had a bad experience with another peel off mask so might wait a while before I use them!

    3. Ya, this wasn't my favorite peel off mask - like I said it did actually hurt to take off and I have never found that with a peel off mask before.
