Manicure Monday - Conversation Heart Nails and Essie Expressie Nail Polish

I always talk about how I'm not the most romantic person and Valentine's Day is really just about me getting a heart shaped pizza; but, I won't lie that I love Valentine's Day candy, chocolate and decor!

So, one of my favourite little treats for Valentine's Day are conversation hearts! So, I thought they were the perfect inspiration for this week's nail art look! (Also, did you know that conversation hearts are really hard to find this year?! Apparently the company went bankrupt two years ago, so they aren't packaged and sold; but, thank goodness someone told me to check out Bulk Barn and I found them!)

And, since we are focusing all month long on red and pink manis for #CBBxManiMonday the whole month, so I was really excited to try this new Essie Expressie polish out that I just picked up in this lovely pink!

Essie Expressie Nail Polish in "In The Time Zone" ~ $10.49 CAN. Expressie; the only quick dry nail polish worthy enough of carrying the essie name. Expressie dries in about a minute so you can grab, try and apply on-the-fly.

So this is a quick dry formula and that is one of these reasons I was so excited to give it a try this week! I love doing nail art, but always find it difficult to fit in the amount of time it needs sometimes - so, if I can apply a base polish and get started immediately on the art without waiting, I'm sold! And, I tested this formula and was opening bags and moving around within 2 minutes and I can tell you that when your nail rubs or bumps something, you know you always turn it around slowly to see the damage - there was none! Boom! I was so impressed! This also comes with their wide brush (from the gel polish formula), but it's a little angled now that's supposed to help application in either hand and it was lovely - this shot is with no extra clean up around my nails! (This is two coats pictured here).

Back in to the conversation hearts - I was fully inspired by the pink, white, purple, green, orange and yellow hearts that were in the mix I picked up! The products that I used for this week's mani are:

For this mani, I started with a nail cleanser and base coat. Then I applied two coats of a light pink polish for the base on all nails. Then, using the remaining colours of the conversation hearts (yellow, orange, green, purple and white), I used a nail art brush and hand painted on the hearts and filled them in with two coats until they were opaque. Then, using the red nail art polish I hand painted some sayings on the nails -  Bae, Be Mine, Love, Hug Me and Laugh. Then, I finished with a nail art top coat!

I really love how these turned out - they totally remind me of the real deal! I think the base pink polish worked well and that formula is impressive so far! Overall, I'm loving this week's nails! (Also, if you're curious about how five years can improve nail art - you can see my conversation heart nails that I attempted in 2015 here!)
