Wine + Mask Wednesday (Fruits and Wine by Moncigale + Nuxe Masque Crème Fraîche de Beauté)

Time for another Wine and Mask Wednesday - this week my theme is "made in France"!

Here is a look at my Wine of the Week:

Fruits and Wine by Moncigale "Grapefruit Rose Wine" ~ $11. Those who love wines with a refreshing acidity will adore the Rosé Pamplemousse, inspired by a popular French tradition. Unctuous and fruity, it’s one of summer’s great pleasures and a fantastic accompaniment to salmon tartare with citrus.

May 2015 Birchbox Canada - Subscription Box Review

This post contains referral links

Birchbox is the original sample beauty box and has been in the U.S.A. since 2010 - and this is only the 6th month it has been available in Canada. It is $10 a month + $4.95 shipping to Canada (you can save money by signing up for a year for $100 + shipping costs). Each month you receive 5 sample (or full size) products based on a beauty profile you complete.

Birchbox Canada describes itself as:
"Five personalized beauty samples delivered right to your door each month. It’s the best way to find the products you’ll love."

(It should be noted that if you see the U.S. Birchbox - Canadian's receive different products. I hope this expands and we get access to all the products available to out American counterparts soon! I like that some boxes (such as Ipsy and Glossybox) offer the exact boxes to Canadians - I am hoping Birchbox does the same at some point!)

Here is the May 2015 Birchbox Canada:

This box is super cute and designed by Cupcakes and Cashmere!

Skincare Sunday - The Benefits of Going 1 Day Per Week Without Makeup

I am the first to admit - I love wearing make-up! I am not the type that thinks getting dolled up is a chore and I love how makeup enhances my features!

As much as I love make-up, I do practice going minimally 1 day or more per week without makeup! (I recently had some eye problems and have not been able to wear eye make-up, so I took it as an opportunity to frequently go completely make-up free). I have even gone out of my comfort zone and gone make-up free to work, and since I have focused so much on my skincare lately, no one told me I look sick or tired (I hardly think anyone noticed)!

Here are the benefits of wearing no make-up:

1. Clearer Skin
Your skin is free of pore-clogging products - with your skin exposed to fresh air and free of products you can count on clearer skin!

Five on Friday - May 22, 2015

Time for another link up for Five on Friday!!

I really loved only having a 4 day work week - it was nice and quick!! It has been a busy week with some wedding plans so I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend!

Here is what has been happening this week:

This past weekend saw me plant my very first garden!! Last Summer in the new house was only setting up the backyard, there was no time for flowers and vegetables! So I planted a few pots full of mixed flowers, tomatoes, a blueberry bush and a lilac tree! In my veggie garden I planted: zucchini, squash, beets, carrots, beans, radishes, and lettuce! I am looking forward to seeing if I can grow things!!

Wine + Mask Wednesday (Honey Badger Wine + SNP Tiger Sheet Mask)

On some weeks, Wednesday just cannot come soon enough! Ugh - wedding planning is no joke! So on that note, I am thoroughly looking forward to relaxing night!

My theme for this week's Wine + Mask Wednesday is "Animals"! I thought this was a fun theme and I have the perfect pairing for you guys (but mostly for me!)

My Wine of the Week is:

Honey Badger Sweet Red ~  $10 - $15. I was so excited when I saw Honey Badger wine!!! I have watched the Honey Badger youtube video as embarrassingly amount of times - it is hilarious! I had to have this - here is how it is described:
"Honey Badger is first and foremost a red wine, produced from only the finest Shiraz and South Africa’s very own, exclusive Pinotage grapes.

Precise blending is done after maturation and a sweet concentrate is added, giving it that marvelous sweetness that leaves you wanting more.

Honey Badger Sweet Red wine boasts a smokey, chocolate nose with some woody notes also on the palate. It showcases a ripe berry character and rich, full finish."

I like that is made with a grape exclusive to South Africa, it makes me think that this will taste much different than anything I have tried before! Here is a look at the wine:

This was a lot darker of a red than I was expecting (I see the word sweet and think that it will be lighter in color), but it did explain that it was a sweet Shiraz so it makes sense that it is dark. It was very different tasting than anything I have had before! I quite like the combination of a sweetened Shiraz - it has all the deep chocolate/smokey flavors but in a fresher way, which I liked! I would have it again!

To match my animal wine, I also have an animal mask for you:

SNP Animal Tiger Wrinkle Mask ~ $1.50 - $5. Seriously, how cute are these animal masks?! I know I talked about the Otter Mask last month in my Monthly Mask review, but I haven't given an animal mask a full review yet! I love the animal mask idea - I think they are so fun to wear! Here is how this mask is described:
Strengthens the vitality of skin, minimizes wrinkles and prevents the appearance of age. Softens rough skin, moisturizes and gives a healthy glow.

An anti-wrinkle mask is not something I generally go far - luckily wrinkles are not a problem for me yet (but i'm still youngish and would like to help prevent them!)

Here is how I used the mask:
1. Cleanse and tone skin
2. Open package and unfold mask (if there is any extra essence, you can apply this to your face prior to putting the mask on)
3. Place mask on face and smooth out - use the tabs to get the best fit possible
4. Leave on for 10-20 minutes
5. Remove and pat in extra essence
6. Complete nighttime skincare routine

Here is what the mask looked like on:

I thought the mask fit fairly well - there was lots of tabs to get a good, snug fit and it did not budge for the 20 minutes I wore it. This does have a slight perfume-y scent to it (it actually reminds me of a laundry scent), but I prefer unscented masks personally. After 20 minutes, there was only a little essence left to pat in. My skin looked great, but I have to say this was not the most moisturizing mask - my skin felt soft but not as hydrated as I like after using a face mask! This particular type is not my favorite of the animal masks (the otter mask was very hydrating!)

Have you jumped on the animal mask bandwagon yet?

May 2015 Beauty Box 5 - Beauty Subscription Box Review

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that costs $12 US per month + $3 shipping to Canada. If you sign up for a longer subscription, you get a lower price per box: $30 quarterly, and $99 a year ( plus $3 shipping per month).

Beauty Box 5 has been referred to as the"starter beauty box" - it does not send many high end products and the value tends to be lower than other boxes, but they have sent out really good products!

*As of late, Beauty Box 5's boxes have been very up and down - they have had some great products; however, there have been very low box values and not so good products. I would suggest that you read reviews and see if it is products you like!*

This is actually my last Beauty Box 5 box - I subscribed last year for 1 whole year and chose not to re-subscribe. While there have been some good boxes over the year, there has also been some terrible boxes! I do recommend reading past reviews and making sure that you like what this box offers prior to subscribing!

Here is my May 2015 Beauty Box 5:

Beauty Box 5 always comes in a signature blue box and this was probably the earliest I have seen it delivered!! It usually comes as the last box every month!

May 2015 Topbox - Canadian Beauty Subscription Review

TopBox is a Canadian Beauty Box Subscription - for $12 CDN a month with free shipping, you will receive 4 deluxe sample size or full size products. You fill out a beauty profile and generally receive products based on what you have identified in the profile. Also, every month you have the option to wish for a "prive" box, which is a box that focuses on one brand or product for the whole box.

TopBox is a Canadian company and only ships to Canada. The only downside to subscribing to TopBox is that there is a wait-list that can take a month or two to get off of.

For May, I opted for the regular Topbox. Here's a look:

Topbox always comes in a signature purple mailer! Here is a look inside:

Skincare Sunday Product Review - Lush Fresh Face Mask "Love Lettuce"

Sorry this post is a little late in the evening - my long weekend Sunday was very busy!

Here is what I am reviewing this week:

Lush Fresh Face Mask "Love Lettuce" ~ $6.95. Love Lettuce is our exfoliating ground almond mask that scoops up dirt, oil and debris and washes it all away. Exfoliation is an important part of good skincare, as it removes the buildup of dead skin that can clog your pores and cause impurities. Love Lettuce is a great example of how just a few ingredients can make a fresh, effective product for the skin. We blend calming French lavender oil with seaweed and honey to nourish and soften skin, and to balance oily T-zones.

Wine + Mask Wednesday (Chinook Arch Mead + Missha Honey Sheet Mask)

Well you know it's been a long week when you go to work thinking it is Thursday - how could I forget Wine + Mask Wednesday hasn't happened yet?!

Good thing I hadn't missed it, I always look forward to Wednesdays! My theme for this week is "Honey"!

Here is my Wine of the Week (or should I say Mead of the Week):

Chinook Arch Meadery Melissa's Gold Mead - $20. What better to start my honey theme than with a honey wine? I love that Chinook Arch Meadery is local, it is located just outside of Okotoks, Alberta. They offer tastings of all their meads and have a whole honey based store. If you are around there, and like mead this is for you! My fiance loves mead (and tries to experiment by making his own in our basement), so I surprised him and took him out to Chinook Arch!

Manicure Monday (A'Pieu Nail Mask & ORLY BB Creme)

I have to start this Manicure Monday with a small confession - I was not very nice to my nails this week! I actually let them get too long and did not cut them in time for volleyball and let them get broken! So sad, they were so long and healthy, but I just can't keep them too long while playing sports!

I decided to start this manicure with a different touch - a nail sheet mask! Sounds fun right?! Here is a look:

Skincare Sunday - Don't Let Stress Wreck Havoc on Your Skin

Happy Mother's Day friends! I think Mother's Day is the perfect time for us all to take a little time to ourselves and relax for the day!

Stress can not only have harmful effects on your body, but can also wreck havoc on your skin! I honestly know this all too well right now, and I needed the reminder to relax and take some time for myself (not only for my own well-being but for my skin too!)

One of the main effects of stress on the skin is acne - when you are feeling stressed, your body releases stress hormones, like cortisol, that can increase oil production leading to breakouts. Stress can also make pre-existing skin problems, such as eczema and rosacea, flare up and can lead to worry lines! (source)

Skincare Sunday - VIIcode O2M Oxygen Masks Review

If you are a regular reader of this blog then you know I love all types of masks! I try to use eye masks when I can to help with dark circles and puffy eyes.

So, when I was approached by the company VIIcode to review their eye masks I was quite happy to oblige (these products were sent to me free for my honest review). If you look at their site, they have an eye cream that sells for over $1000! That is slightly out of my price range, but all they make are Eye Cream and Eye Masks so it is their specialty!

Here are the Eye Masks:

Viicode sent me their O2M Oxygen Mask - Eye Mask For All Night ~ $55 for 6 treatments. This mask works to make the skin around your eyes firm and smooth, thus eliminating wrinkles and lightening dark circles by strengthening and healing the skin.

April Month of Masks in Review

I hope you guys like this new post - I thought I would try something a little different! I use so many masks and only feature a couple on Wednesdays and sometimes on Sundays. I thought by reviewing my month, my readers would be able to see my reviews about more products!

My Skincare Routine is very important to me - you can view my Daily and Nightly routines here if you are familiar with the Korean 10 Step skincare routine! Masks are a big part of this routine and since I have come to love this routine, I have incorporated so many new masks in to my routine! I love trying different brands and different types of masks! Hopefully after this post you love masks as much as I do!

April 1
Deary "Rose Idebenone Whitening Invisible Elastic Mask" ~ $2.20 (pack of 5 for $10.99). A staple in the skincare regimen that makes your face glow like a rose.
This mask was featured for Wine + Mask Wednesday so you can see the whole review here - I liked this mask overall. The fit was a bit big but it did have tabs to help it fit any size and it made my skin tone look much more even after!
