Skincare Sunday - The Importance of Beauty Sleep

My Skincare Sunday this week focuses on some age-old advice - Beauty Sleep!!! I am not feeling well today and am going to call it a night early (instead of doing some damage to my skin by staying up way too late watching Game of Thrones - I will catch up tomorrow when I feel better!)

You have heard everyone refer to a good night's sleep as "Beauty Sleep", but is it true? Does sleep really make you more beautiful? The answer is yes - sleep is good for your skin and can help improve your skin!

The recommended sleeping time is 7-9 hours - too little and too much are both not good for you (and your skin as it seems!).

I think it is obvious on your face when you don't get enough sleep - uneven or dull looking skin, and dark circles or bags under your eyes! These are all problems that are easily fixed with a good night's rest. I did not realize that over-sleeping was also hard on your skin! It can lead to skin-cell breakdown, which leads to wrinkles and saggy skin!

So why is the right amount of sleep important for your skin? While your sleeping, your whole body - including your skin - goes in to repair mode. During this "repair" mode, your skin renews itself and your new skin cells grow and replace your old cells! (Your skin truly does amazing things while you are sleeping)

The best way to ensure your beauty sleep happens is to create a good bed time routine and try to stick to it as much as possible - the better you sleep, the better face you put forward the next morning!!
